Write Prompt Free Monthly Contest is the place to feed your addiction to writing contests! That's right, every month begins a new contest!

On the first of each month a writing prompt will be given on the list in one of four ways. 1) a starter sentence 2) a picture 3) a theme or 4) an ending. At the same time there may be restrictions placed on the entry including word count, number of characters, including certain items, specific POV or some other form of torture.

The current annual prompts are saved in the file section.

Then you have one month to complete your entry and submit it to the list. Submissions officially close on the last day of the month and are limited to the first ten (10) correctly formatted submissions.

The winner is decided by monthly voting polls. Voting will open on the eighth (8th)and close on the twenty-fifth (25th) of the month. The the winner will be announced shortly after the polls close. Winners will be given the Winning Prompt Graphic Award to display on their website and will be listed in the hall of infamy here at Write Prompts, probably for eternity. At some point in the future I hope to be able to offer more substantial prizes but that isn't an option at this time.

Ane example:
In September 2005, the contest opened on 9/1/05 and closed 9/30/05. The poll to vote opened no later than 10/8/05 and closed 10/25/05. For the time being with entries low, I am more relaxed on this schedule. When there are entries I'll set up a site to vote on and post notice.

For now the focus of Write Prompt will be to provide guidance and prompt writing geared toward a complete story every year. Even if you don't write all the time, you CAN do it, just with these monthly prompts and some end of year editing.
