The Word Works is a nonprofit literary organization founded in 1974. Our activities in support of poetry include the annual Washington Prize book contest, the Joaquin Miller Cabin Poetry Series, the Jacklyn Potter Young Poets Competition, and the Cafe Muse Literary Series.

In addition to publishing poetry collections through the Washington Prize, The Word Works also publishes Hilary Tham Capital Collection titles by poets primarily in the Washington, DC, area.
