The proposed revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders has a new definition for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and
the result would likely be more children diagnosed with the disorder, experts
say. The DSM previously required 12 of 18 symptoms for a diagnosis of ADHD, but
under the proposal, a child would need to exhibit 12 of 24, a broadening of the
definition that has proven controversial.
