02/03/01 - Pete Tevlin
Hi Neighbors,
I'm working a little more on the website and have decided to convert
this messages forum into an online managed tool associated with our
email carrier - Yahoo! We were using Onelist which then converted to
egroups which Yahoo! bought out. Following are the old messages from
the web page I am sending to archive. I had been getting these by
email and then pasting into the web page when time availed, this
caused some delays when I didn't check it for a while and this method
removes some of the labor from the process. I hope you find it
useful and easy to get involved using this tool. Sign up if you want
to receive every message that is posted.

I'd like to comment on the barking dog situation. I just moved in to
WOL within the last month. I have a dog that has taken to barking a
night. It seems there is a reason for the barking there is a possum
in the field beind the houses. My dog doesn't just bark to bark. She
barks because there is a reason. I am amazed at why people are
complaining without trying to find the real reason so many dogs are
barking at the same time. Let's think about it, if we get rid of the
reason maybe the dogs won't bark so much.
Also, I'd like to comment on the speed at which people drive on Tryon
by the park. It seems the is a way to slow people down. Has anyone
thought of speed bumps along the entrance roads? If not we should.

01/29-01 - NEW RESIDENT
MY FAMILY HAS LIVED IN WOL NOW FOR ALMOST A YEAR. WE HAVE ENJOYED IT
VERY MUCH. PEOPLE ARE GREAT, LOTS OF CHILDREN, AND FROM WHAT I HAVE
SEEN THROUGHOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD, ITS BEAUTIFUL. EVERYONE LIVES BUSY
LIVES, AND THINGS HAPPEN, I HAVE FOUND READING THE MESSAGES HERE WAS
ONLY A VERY FEW POSITIVE THINGS BEING SAID. I FEEL IT IS MORE
IMPORTANT TO GET OUR NEIGHBORHOOD INVOLVED TO PROMOTE A SAFE AND
HAPPY ENVIRONMENT FOR OUR CHILDREN. MAYBE WE SHOULD ASK OUR CHILDREN
WHATS IMPORTANT IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD? I BELIEVE THE ISSUES ARE
IMPORTANT, AND I BELIEVE WE DO LIVE IN A BEAUTIFUL NEIGHBORHOOD, A
FEW MINOR INFRACTIONS SEEM HARMLESS TO ME. HAS ANYONE APPROACHED
THESE INDIVIDUALS TO SEE IF THEY NEED HELP? JUST A POINT OF VIEW. I
FEEL VERY PROUD OF WHERE WE LIVE AND SO DO MY CHILDREN. MY LAST
COMMENT IS ON THE MESSAGE BOARD CURRENTLY POSTED ABOUT BARKING DOGS.
MY CHILDREN TOOK THIS INFORMATION VERY SERIOUSLY. I DID TOO. I FEEL
IT WAS VERY DISTASTEFUL AND DEGRADING TO ALL PET OWNERS. A POINT OF
VIEW

Has a date been set for the next neighborhood garage sale?

1/22/01 - Deirdre Johnson
Dear Neighbors, There are approximately three dogs that are
consistently barking at three and four o'clock in the morning. Being
seven months pregnant, this is very disturbing. I think I speak for
most when I ask to PLEASE keep your pet quiet or inside. It is only
courteous! I would appreciate a message in the front of our
neighborhood about this situation... Thank you for your cooperation.

1/21/01 - New and HAPPY!!! The Zellers!
First of all let me say this Web site is great! My husband, daughter,
and I just moved in around Sept. and we love it. Sure WOL has a few
things that need to be addresed, like this boat I hear so much about.
Overall we have been very happy with all of our neighbors. We have
been greeted by so many people who want nothing more than to make,
and keep this a wonderful place to live. We want to help in any way
we can to keep WOL a safe neighborhood we are all proud of.

1/17/01 - Nathan Gaskill - Thank You For Your Time
Pete:
I read your email about the newsletter problem and the one from
Stewart Angst. I, too want to thank you for all the help you have
been to this neighborhood. I also apologize for not really
participating in projects to help or improve the neighborhood. I have
tried to come up with some ideas to put in the newsletter, have
succeeded twice but that was all. I also tried to help out with the
neighborhood crme prevention to no avail.
I realize that we all get busy with our daily lives and they are very
busy for each one of us. I don't think enough emphasis has been put
on each one of us (me included) to understand how important each
idea, project or function is to our neighborhood, I am rethinking my
daily planning and will now volunteer to help out any way I can. I
won't be able to take over the newsletter project but I will help any
other way if someone will let me know what I can do. I didn't run for
a board member because I didn't think I could perform the duties
required due to time constraints. I do know by September I will have
much more time to really get involved because Bonnie is retiring then
and will take over some of my daily tasks.
Pete, I don't know how you have been able to do all the wonderful
things you have done in the past. I can't express enough thanks for
your many efforts and strong involvements. I hope with this email and
with others others that more neighbors will rethink their positions
and offer assistance and get involved more too.

1/16/01- Stewart Angst - jangst@...
Pete:
I just wanted to thank you, Tiffany and all the other neighbors who
have given of their time for our community. I do appreciate receiving
community information from the newsletter, the web site / email, and
the marquee when any of it is available. I am sorry that neighbors
like myself have not been able to make an effort to help out and I am
sorry that I have not thanked you all before now.
I believe there are lot of us neighbors out there who work hard for
our families yet have very little energy and/or time left to give
something back to our community, but then again if we each just tried
to give one hour a month to help with something related to our
community, it could make a major difference.
Please feel free to call me any time you are in a crunch on any issue
and I will see what I can do for you. If just need some help getting
a marquee message up, let me know. I really appreciate the times you
do give us newsletter article deadlines, even though I have not
contributed. It at least gives me a reminder that I could contribute
if I would just make an effort to do so! This may apply to other
neighbors as well.
Sincerely, Stewart Angst

1/15/01 - Pete Tevlin - Hello neighbors,
The reason the newsletter didn't happen in November was that I was
very busy and no one gave me anything to put into a newsletter. The
same situation exists this month. There was no interest so there was
no newsletter. Tiffany and I have had to pull teeth to get anyone to
write anything to go into it and have had to come up with much of the
content ourselves. This is time consuming and tends to present things
from only one perspective. I'd put the date for articles on the
marquee and the dates come and pass with no input. Then we'd make a
few calls and ask for the something from someone, only to wait
longer. I've asked on the marquee for someone to volunteer to take
over the newsletter, with no response.
I feel that it's worthwhile for a community to have a newsletter to
get information to everyone. I also feel the website was worthwhile,
am glad to see that people visit it, and I've learned a lot from
creating it. Lately, my time with my work and my family has become
more important than writing a bi-monthly letter to my neighbors.
I've decided, unless someone else wants to put forth the effort to
author and edit the newsletter, that I will only edit and forward to
the publisher, newsletter articles from neighbors, Board members and
the management company. If no input comes in, the newsletter will go
by the wayside and the web site and this email forum will be the
information methods. My apologies if this message comes to you more
than once.

1/12/01 - One opinion does matter
I use to believe I was the only resident upset about the appearance
of the subdivision. I am thrilled to see so many involved residents.
So maybe this year when we have Spring Clean up our neighborhood
weekend - people will get involved! Thank you to the resident that
finally at least renailed the boards up on the fence that was falling
down on White Oak Blvd. - I believe a new fence is still needed. The
boat is gone - after 50 complaints! The odd thing I have noticed is
no newsletter anymore and if the Board is handling the violators of
deed restrictions, then why don't they update the subdivision
monthly. Like i.e..: 20 letters went out on yard violations, 1 boat
and 10 have responded. Keep us informed, let us share the progress
with you - keep us involved!

1/9/01 - gasbld@... - Shopping Strip
I see there is a new "for sale" sign on the property North of our
neighborhood entrance. Did the shopping strip deal fall through?
Also, I went up to the park to see our new shelter, it is nice but
did you know they did not use pressure treated lumber? The vertical
supports go through the cement slab and are exposed to the soil. They
will rot out in about two years.

12/20/00 - Camille Siegel
I am not sure where to send this information... For the last week our
mail has been stolen out of our mailbox.. We have reported it to the
Post Office and will try to find a place to let the Security Guard
know. We live on Beaconwood and they have taken all the mail coming
in and some going out since I know that some of the things I mailed
out were never received. Thought you might want to know this. Thanks
Editors note: I'm not sure where Beaconwood is, I can't find it
anywhere.

12/18/00 - Carla Young
Thanks to the men who put up the Christmas decorations! I appreciate
your hard work. Also, the entrance looks much better since the
petunias have been replaced. Question: Why is our WOL entrance sign
so small and plain compared to, for instance, the one across the
street and others I see?
12/15/00 - Anonymous
In the past three years living here, I would have to agree that the
integrity of the community has declined. I am also aware of many of
the complaints that have been posted on this site. First, I too have
noticed the group with their pitbulls walking down Lynnville Drive. I
can only imagine what they are doing? I know that a couple of the
boys/men live here in WOL (I believe in the house with the fence that
is held up with other slats?) As long as they are not doing anything
illegal there is nothing that can be done. I do know that the next
time I see one them letting their dog relieve itself in my yard, I'm
going to have an issue with them. Second, the boat parked in the
street bothers me. Although I don't live on that street, it still
bothers me that it has not been moved. These streets are the
responsibility of the county, so the county, ie. Sheriff/Constable
should have it moved. Tell me if I'm wrong. Third. What is the deal
with the house on Oak Acres? The one with the stump. I've been by
there a few times and for sure thought that the owner would have had
the thing ground down. Why should I expect that though? The rest of
the yard looks just as bad. What baffles me the most, is the lack of
pride on the part of some of the homeowners here. I am to believe
that there is a certain pride to owning a home, but I guess this
belief does not translate to everyone. How hard can it be to maintain
a yard/home to the basic standards of the community? Some would argue
that its hard to maintain a home and do all the other things in ones
life. Maybe. I do know that the people who keep their yards and home
up to standards are just as busy, so I take little solice in that
excuse. The idea of helping these people out was brought up at one of
the homeowners meetings. I disagree with that notion. If you are
unable to maintain a home and yard, then maybe an apartment is the
thing for you. What is the answer to the problems in our community?
No one seems to know. As one of the 40 or so homeowners (out of
300+homes) at the annual meeting, I hear that things are being done.
I guess they are, but it sure seems slow. Maybe this new year will
bring some positive change?

12/10/00 - A concerned Neighbor
I would like to know if something is ever going to be done concerning
the boat that has been in the street at 10715 Tryon for well over 3
months. I have had 2 near accidents turning right onto Tryon from
Lynnville because of this boat taking up space in the street. I have
called AMI and just get the run around. Isn't there a law against an
obstruction like this crowding the flow of traffic? This also poses a
high risk of someone getting hurt; there are a lot of children in
this area. Please help!!

12/8/00 - Anonymous
I agreed with DIXDOB about the "ghetto mentality" of this
neighborhood. If the rate of those residents who keep violating deed
restrictions keep rising, then we will surely become that of
a "ghetto neighborhood." I believe that there is still time for WOL
to clean up and repair the damages. For those who feel alone in this
battle, know that you are not alone. Thank you.

12/1/00 - Edgar & Yvonne Mobley
We have been in the neighborhood for about 4 years and have
constantly been plagued with people intentionally throwing their
trash in our yard. EVERY week we pick up beer cans, liquor bottles,
bags of trash, discarded food items, junk mail from others mailboxes,
animal maneur and various other items. We have had people turn over
our trash can (along with a few other families of color) and even
throw mud on our front door. I don't know if this is reserved only
for residents with corner lots, but it sure is SAD that someone is so
miserable they think littering is a solution to their pitiful little
problem. We will continue to beautify our property in spite of!!

12/1/00 - Yvonne Mobley
Please remind children who catch the bus to take their litter (soda
cans, napkins, pop-tarts, bags, etc.) with them and dispose of them
properly. Daily we pick up after kids who catch the bus on the corner
or on the side of our home. We spend a lot of time and effort to try
to maintain a first class home and yard and would appreciate it if
the kids were reminded to respect everyone's property.

12/1/00 - Dixdob at aol.com
To Whom It May Concern, I have been residing within this subdivision
for less than one year and have noticed that we are quickly
approaching a "ghetto mentality". For example:
- a white & blue boat parked on the street almost within the
intersection of Lynnville & Tryon (10715 Tryon) has resulted in
several "near miss" motor vehicle accidents (boat has been abandoned
on the street since early September)
- a white Ford Mustang parked on the street in front of 13615
Lynnville has not moved within the past two months (has it been
abandoned?)
- a wrecked blue Ford Mustang (with flat tires) has been parked on
the driveway at 13614 Lynnville for six months plus
These are just a few examples of the ongoing "ghetto mentality" that
I have observed within my adjacent neighborhood. Hope that the owners
of the above motor vehicles are not anxiously awaiting receipt of
the "coveted" yard-of-the month award!!
Sincerely, A Concerned Resident of White Oak Landing

11/28 - Mary Givens
Is there anyways for residents to confront those violating deed
restrictions. Perhaps, if we tell them ourselves, then they will be
more prompt in following up with the deeds. WOL, It is time we get
back our community we once had. Lets get out there and clean this
neighborhood UP!!

11/28 - Bryan Nickel
After reading all these post ups by our WOL residents, I have to
agreed with most of them that our subdivsion has indeed gone down
greatly. From people violating deed restrictions to those who follow
them, I think we all have to work together to solve the problems we
are having. First off, lets remove all those non-working vehicles. If
you're not going to drive the car, please park it somewhere else
beside the street. Keeping the street free of cars will only make our
community seem more attractive. Second, everyone must encourage the
other to share ideas about what can be done to settle those who are
violating deed restrictions, such as the 18' wheeler truck or the
boat parked for over 3 weeks. Finally, I believe AMI should step up
with a greater attitude in trying to help the residents of WOL. It
seems like they are just relaxing and nothing ever gets reslove. I
truly mean that. AMI must proof that they are here for a reason and
show that we can trust in them.

We all enjoy seeing the nice yards in our neighborhood, and
appreciate all the hard work that is put in to keeping them looking
so nice. However, I believe that common courtesy would be to NOT
begin mowing your yard and/or weed eating until a decent hour of the
morning--8:30? or so. We have neighbors that have been out mowing at
6:30 and 7:00 in the morning. I believe this is inconsiderate to all
those neighbors around you. We all have different hours and keep
different schedules, and not all of us want to be up at 6:30am.
Please show a little consideration for your neighbors and wait a
little later to begin that yardwork. Thank you!

11/14 - Anonymous
YES, WHY HASN'T THE BOAT ON TRYON BEEN MOVED. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
MAYBE THE ASSOC. PEOPLE THAT RIDE THE NEIGHBORHOOD SHOULD DO IT TWICE
A MONTH FOR AWHILE. YES, THE WHITE TRUCK HAS BEEN PARKED IN THE
DRIVEWAY ON DENVER OAKS FOR QUITE AWHILE. WHY HAVEN'T THE PEOPLE ON
OAK ACRES NOT GRID THE STUMP OUT OF THE YARD? AND THE HOUSE ON THE
BACK STREET WITH THE BRIGHT BLUE SHUTTERS HAVE NOT HAD TO CHANGE THE
COLOR. BECAUSE WE DO NOT ENFORCE THE DEED RESTR. BECAUSE WE ARE WIMPS!

11/10 - Marilyn Wiener
GREAT website! Wish my neighborhood had one like this.

11/09 - Naturenut at aol.com
When will the boat be moved off the street on Tryon? Thank you

11/3/00 - Melissa Coleman -
I have the same concern regarding the group of teens and their pit
bull dogs. I know that Crossroads subdivision at one time began to
feel they were losing control and that crime was up. They contracted
either the Sherrif's department or the Constable's office to
regularly patrol their neighborhood. From what friends have told me
they feel it has made a huge difference. I have no idea the cost of
such a contract, but maybe it can be looked into by the Board.

Anonymous - 11/01/00
It does appear that we are loosing some control of our neighborhood.
As a resident of WOL for the last 7 yrs I have always felt very
comfortable and safe in our neighborhood. However, lately there has
been a group of young men parading through WOL with their pit bull's
(dogs) on chain leashes and if you look at them they give you a
piercing look and stare. A family oriented community like we have
should not have to worry about intimating guys with their pit bulls
walking the neighborhood. I wonder if they all even live in here?? I
really would like to see us have some patroling in WOL by either the
Constable or Sheriff. Maybe if we have any that live in WOL they
could periodically do it or have one of their buddies do it. This
might discourage some of the problems and issues we seem to be
starting to have.
Richard Thompson - silverdomino at yahoo.com - 10/31/00
Anyone have any idea why AMI is so laid back in enforcing our deed
restrictions? When my family and I moved into the subdivision, just
over three and a half years ago, PCMI was consistently enforcing the
deed restrictions. The previous owner of my houe had left a
basketball pole in the front yard that didn't have a goal on it. I
received two letters from PCMI telling me to put a goal on the pole
or take it down. If I didn't take the pole down by the next month,
they were going to have someone take it down, and bill me for the
cost of having it taken down. I put a goal on it in order to satisfy
PCMI's demands. I have driven around the subdivision, and it is
starting to look somewhat like Bonaire to a certain extent (an 18
wheeler truck tractor parked in a driveway, a boat in front of one
house, vehicles parked in front of houses that don't look like they
have been moved in a while). If the neighbors will take pride in
their property, the rest of us will benefit.
Sabra Kramer, AMI Administrator - skramer at amitx.com - 10/31/00
Sue, AMI is required to give adequate notice to the homeowner
regarding any deed restriction violations. The Board and myself are
aware of the boat, motor homes, popup trailers, 18 wheelers etc. At
this time they are being addressed. The process does not occur over
night and it does take some time to encourage the homeowner to remove
the above mentioned items. If they do not, alternate action will be
taken if the Board advises us to do so. Inspection is preformed once
a month with a member of the Board or a committee member. I am sure
that the day that the boat arrived in White Oak Landing, the
inspection did not occur. We are working diligently on the issues and
they will be resolved.
Thank you for your concern for White Oak Landing.

Anonymous - 10/29/00
Why is there a 18 wheeler truck parked in a drive way on the first
street (turn left) as you come into the subdivision. Even if this
person is not one that has deed rest. that truck is to big and heavy
for our roads. When I bought my house I bought (thought) in a
residental area not a storage lot or industrial park. Why is this
aloud by the subdivision committee?? It seems to me that we keep
letting OUR sudvision get worse, which brings the value of our homes
down. People that are looking at White Oak Landing to buy a home and
look us up on the web can read these posting and see we don't have
deed rest. inforced (but were/how else can we voice our concerns but
here) Question is WHEN is something going to be DONE to make it
better??????????
Sue Woody - RWoody2608 at aol.com - 10/23/00
I would like to know what is being done (if anything) about the boat
that has been parked in the street at 10715 Tryon for the past 3
weeks +. I would think that this is in direct violation with our deed
restrictions and if some of the rules have been changed I would love
to know and able to move our boat in front of our house that we could
save hundreds of dollars a year in rent on storage space...

Carla Deblaw - deblawc at howrey.com - 10/23/00
I live on Lynnville Street and I would really like to see that the
boat parked on Tryon is moved. It has been there for about 3 weeks
and I think they should park in the driveway. There are too many
children around and one day I seen a couple people sitting inside the
boat. I would also like to know why there are so many cars parked on
the street and not in there driveways on Tryon and on Lynnville
Street.

Sabra Kramer, A.M.I. Administrator - skramer at amitx.com - 10/20/00
Hello John,
Ron Lake and myself are the administrators for White Oak Landing. I
have been with the property for about two years and have become very
familiar with various situations.
There are homes within White Oak Landing that are not part of the
association. This is fault of the different developers that bought
and developed section of the neighborhood at a time. This is no fault
of anyone that has anything to do with White Oak Landing currently.
Last year we did send proxy's to the residents of WOL giving the
Board approval to annex the homes without additional approval from
homeowners. This decision is the current homeowner and they do not
have use of the amenities. If the homeowner joins the Association the
home will continue to be apart of the Association for the existence
of the neighborhood. You are correct in saying some of the homes that
are not apart of White Oak Landing are in terrible shape, and we are
unable to pursue any type of action. The Board needs approximately 7
proxy's from last year to make the annexation process for these homes
run smoothly, the Board is taking care of this project.
I am unable to say anything about other homes and deed restrictions
or what the Board has decided to do with homes that are in violation
of deed restrictions. I will let you know Ron my associate and a
Board member inspect the subdivision together, the process is a slow
one but changes will occur soon.
If you have any other questions you can email me at skramer@...
or call our office 713-932-1122.
Thank you, Sabra Kramer

John Chapman - c5jlc at aol.com - 10/5/00
Across from me @ 13315 Denver Oaks Dr. there is a old White Dodge
truck that has been setting in the driveway for 1 year now. (with
junk in the back and flat tires)
This tells me that no one drives the subdivision or they would see
this. If they did see it and sent letters (1 year) why is it still
there. This person runs a LAWN BUSINESS out of his house. I am
reminded every morning when I go to pull out of my drive to have to
deal with going around the workers trucks.
I would like to know why we have people living here that don't have
deed rest. and don't have to pay annual maint. due (But yet we pay
and the others get to enjoy the lights and the other things in the
subdivision and let there houses run down) This make the value of our
homes go DOWN

Joe Cox - jb_cox at yahoo.com - 7/2/00
My wife has noticed a green Chevy Van ( the older mini van that chevy
made) parked in the neighborhood on several different times and
places. This van has even followed her. The tag number D858-151, Ill.
plates. If you know this person and they are in the subdivision on
legit business, let me know.

Karl Volkmann - 6/28/00
My neighbors Honda Accord was stole from his driveway a couple of
weekends ago.
The police found it stripped to the bone.

Anonymous - 6/16/00
Yesterday, my car was broken into and whoever the thief was, stole my
CD player and broke off the ignition key. This is the second time
that this has happened. Whoever it was, thought that it was funny
enough to go around the neighborhood to steal things off of cars.
Now, this is only for the Honda Accords because these cars are very
easy to break into. So, for those who own an Accord, please make sure
you put an alarm on it or you will pay. Where is the safety of this
neighborhood when you need it? Seems that nothing is being done. What
ever happened to the crime watch of this subdivision?

Joe Cox - jb_cox at yahoo.com - 5/23/00
I agree with Nathan concerning the noise from the cars. I am tired of
hearing loud noise from vehicles at night. Nathan I will get you the
license tags from the cars on Ryan Oaks and the other house at the
corner of Ryan landing and Oak Arces. Maybe compare list and get help
from the sheriff in stopping this noise. If the Sheriff's department
will ticket them, then let's do it. The only way we stop theses kids
is to use legal means to enforce the law, I know from one of the
houses that problems arise with the kids, that the parents aren't
home.

Karl - 5/9/00
The same people throwing mud on mailboxes, are probably the same ones
spraying
graffiti on the fence that separates WOL and the subdivision to the
south.

Gene Cripps - GCCripps at aol.com - 5/8/00
I would like to publicly inform Nathan Gaskill and James McCauliffe
that we am more than interested in becoming involved with the
Neighborhood Crime Watch Committee. I empathize, and can relate with
the numerous homeowner concerns that seem to be disturbingly more
frequent. Christie and I are WOL homeowners of one year, we work hard
to keep our home safe and attractive, and we respect others that do.
We have learned most about our neighborhood with the simple act of
taking evening walks. The thought of 329 homeowners doing the same is
pretty awesome.

Richard Thompson - 5/4/00
I don't know whose kids think its funny to splatter mud on the front
of the mail boxes, but it needs to stop. And it needs to STOP NOW!
On Tuesday evening and again on Wednesday evening, I found mud
splattered on the front of the mail boxes at the corner of Linville
and Oak Acres. The largest mud splatter was about 6 inches in
diameter and about 1 inch thick. The mud was covering several doors
and key ways. Mud in the key way will jam the lock so that it will
not operate properly, plus it is a mess to get off the mail box door.
The mud will also get inside the mail box, thus getting the interior
of the mail box and its contents dirty.
I suggest the parents of these kids find appropriate after school
activities for the kids so they stay out of trouble. I think these
kids need to be punished in some way, so they understand what they
have done is wrong.

Richard Thompson - 5/3/00
On the evenings of May 2 and May 3, I went to get my mail from the
mail box located at the corner of Lynneville and Oak Acres. I
discovered that children had been amusing themselves with splattering
mud on the the front of these mail boxes. The mud covered the key
way, therefore I had to remove the mud before I could insert my key.
The mud also gets inside of the key way making the lock hard to
operate. The mud also gets inside of the mail boxes, thus making the
mail wet and dirty. I suggest the parents of these children find
suitable after school activities, in order to keep these children out
of trouble. These children also need to be punished in a way that
will teach them that what they did is wrong. Be reminded that
tampering with a U.S. mail box in any way, is a Federal offense.

Nathan Gaskill 5/1/00 Subject: Noise Levels
I see no one responded to your inquiry about loud mufflers, sound
systems, etc. in the neighborhood. I have obtained license numbers
from the offending vehicle and called the County Sherriff's office.
They will try to track down the offender, if successful, investigate
and issue a ticket. They will then give you feedback so they can take
further action if the offense happens again with the same vehicle.
This has worked for me on two occasions in the past three months.

Nathan Gaskill - 4/29/00
I have talked to James McCauliffe many times about what is going on
with the Neighborhood Crime Watch Committee. He has told me he is not
getting very good response from anyone. Folks, this has got to be one
of the easiest committees of all to take an active part in. I am
willing to do anything in my power to help stop and further prevent
crime and vandalism in our community.
On the bottom of the pool tag form there was a box to check if you
were interested in participating in any committee. I am very
disappointed their was hardly any response to crime watch. I have
heard a lot of people gripe about things happening in our
neighboehood, including threats to move out.
HOW DO ANY OF YOU EXPECT CRIME AND VANDALISM TO STOP IF YOU DON'T
HELP DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT?? The way I feel, if you don't take action
and something happens to your property then you have nothing to gripe

4/23 - Vickie Harper from Ryanwood
Note to the News Letter staff:
I am very impressed with the direction the news letter has taken.
Thanks for addressing so many of the issues White Oak Landing
residents are interested in. Your voice is strong, as it needs to be,
but you are courteous as it should be. Keep of the good work!

4/19 - LOST TENNIS RACKET! Hello Neighbors! Anybody find a DUNLOP
REVELATION TENNIS RACKET here in the neighborhood sometime Saturday?
It is primarily gold and black in color and has a blue overwrap on
the handle. It was lost perhaps on LYNNVILLE, TRYON or on WHITE OAK
LANDING toward the subdivision exit. If anyone has any information,
it would sure be appreciated that you would please call me at 281-897-
9165 or return it to 13519 Lynnville. Man! Did I ever love the
balance on that frame! They don't even make those anymore!
Thanks again for your cooperation, Ed

4/2 - Kelly Kearns - I am suggesting the front "White Oak Landing"
subdivision sign be repainted and flowers updated. The new
subdivision sign is beautiful and makes ours look depressing! Let's
update the front - how about more flowers around all the trees in the
center lane? I picked up all the trash on "clean up our subdivsion"
weekend, in the front entry and will continue to do so, as much as
possible. Thanks to all of you for all your efforts and work.

3/22 - Pete Tevlin - The gate is the lesser of two evils. It was
discussed at length before it was installed, including the neighbors
living near it. Before we decided to install it, the neighborhood
was very often having to have the fence repaired because anyone
wanting to get in or out of the neighborhood felt that they could
just kick out the pickets to gain access. This happened almost
weekly on weekend nights and was at a time when we still had the
basketball courts up and had many visitors from Oak Cliff and other
neighborhoods. They would also often jump the fence in anyone's yard
along the bayou and sometime leave that yards' gate open. Neither of
these has been reported as a problem since the gate was erected. We
had considered a large post (or posts) be installed in the center of
the gate area to limit access to foot traffic only and prevent
motorcycle and bike passage. Some people pass through with their
wagons, strollers and jogger "child buggys" though. There are many
people who pass through the gate now for many reasons and to the best
of my knowledge, this is the first complaint registered here, at
neighborhood meetings or with the Board.

3/21 - karlv at swbell.net - Ms. Mathews, I disagree with your
opinion that the gate should be locked. On occasion, I take my kids
for a walk back there, and sometimes need to get on the other side of
my fence to cut the weeds. Until I install a gate, I hope that it
remains open.

3/20 - Glenn Vincent - DixDob at aol.com
Greetings, I have a suggestion. I have been renting here for almost
two months and have come to the conclusion that you all should rename
this subdivision. In honor of all the barking dogs, the subdivision's
name should be changed to "Barking Dog Landing". The proposed name
will more accurately describe the atmosphere around here!!!! Some of
my neighbors have dogs that are almost as big as a horse and as
obnoxiously loud as a squealing hog. Regards,

3/16 - MARIA MATHEWS - MAMMATH at JUNO.COM
YESTERDAY I NOTICED A LOT OF YOUNG KIDS ON THEIR BIKES USE THE GATE
AT THE END OF OAK ACRES AND WENT OUT TO THE BAYOU. IT'S DANGEROUS FOR
KIDS TO BE RIDING THEIR BIKES ALONG THE BAYOU. THAT GATE SHOULD BE
LOCKED OR NAILED SHOT. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

3/09 - I like this talk of moving out into the country to escape the
problems within the subdivision. Isn't WOL pretty much in
the "country" now? Personally, I don't see the point in tacking on
additional minutes to a commute that is extremely long already. In
order to escape all these problems, one would have to move every five
years.

Melissa Coleman, Board of Directors - 2/29/00
In response to some of the letters, first let me say thank you to all
who submit their opinions and ideas to this website. It is a great
means of communication with our busy lives today. Pete Tevlin is
doing a great job with it. Thanks for the support of the Deed
Restriction Task Force. The members will need the support of the
community when we begin to work with the homeowners not coming into
compliance with our deed restrictions. Good job to the many
homeowners that have already put hours of work into their yards. They
look great. However, again I cannot emphasize enough how much help we
could really use with this project. After the March inspection, we
see the large job we have ahead. The more individuals we have
involved the less work for everyone.
In regards to a possible tennis court in WOL, I have lived here
almost 5 years and have never heard anything about it. That does not
mean that it is not possible. The Board plans on distributing a
survey later this Spring to get a feel for what the community wants
in terms of a pavilion, club house, etc. at the park. This would be a
good opportunity to express your ideas to your neighbors so that they
too may show their support of a tennis court at the park. I will be
sure to add your suggestion to the survey. Thanks for the good idea.
Moving out to the country has crossed my mind and many others in WOL
because of the noise levels, the speeding problem, the large group of
teens that roam the streets etc. Unfortunately, the noise level of
passing cars is very hard to mandate, speeding can only be controlled
by the driver or a police officer, and teens out late roaming the
streets by the parents. That is where I have taken my complaints in
the past, right the source. I have confronted teens for their
language, throwing cigarette butts in my yard, parents of speeding
teens and have found some results. They are not always long term, but
the parent and the kids are aware that it is not tolerated on my
street corner. Maybe you too can gain some control in your area by
addressing the problem directly.
I don't believe there is a perfect community out there to be had. I
do believe that together we can make WOL what we want it to be.
Sincerely,

Newsfeeds at yahoo.com - 2/21/00
I'm outraged at the noise in this neighborhood! It is very sad that
you cannot even open your windows anymore to enjoy the breeze on a
nice day or evening. I'm referring to mostly the teenagers as I have
yet to see an adult with those stupid hideous tailpipes on their
cars. My entire house vibrates as these kids drive by with their
stereos cranked to the maximum level and the most annoying noise of
the loud mufflers. I keep saying to myself that I hope these kids
graduate or move out of the house soon so we can all be rid of the
unnecessary noise pollution. I keep telling my husband we need to
move to the country to find some peace and quiet. He just tells me to
close the windows! If anyone out there reads this and knows if any
contact with the police would help on this issue, I would appreciate
a reply. I like this neighborhood as we have lived here almost 8
years and really don't want to pull my kids from schools and uproot
them. I just don't see anything "cool" about a car vibrating/bouncing
with the music turned up with all the windows down and that darn
muffler humming so loud.
I'm sure if an ambulance or police car was in pursuit of a criminal
or rushing to the scene of an accident these drivers could not hear
the sirens and therefore are a danger to others on the roads. If you
have kids with these contraptions please tell them to tune it down
and slow down to keep the muffler noise lower out of a little respect
for their neighbors.
An annoyed and frustrated homeowner

Pete Tevlin - 3/7
Hi Angela, This note fell through the cracks... I guess. Sorry I
didn't get it until this evening. I'm glad for your interest and
desire to get involved! Thanks for that. The deadline for newsletters
is later in the month now - the 24th. Ask Melissa when you speak to
her about the pool parking - We discussed it at the annual HOA
meeting but I don't know where the idea rests now. Are you
interested in heading the Social committee? WOL needs an Easter Party
coordinator, for starters!

Angela Milton - 2/18/00
Hi, Pete. I think I will give Melissa a call to help out. I think
it'd be fun. Since we can't restrict neighbors from parking in the
street, maybe we (I) can input a paragraph in the next newsletter
asking everyone's cooperation in parking in their own driveways.
When's the deadline? Also, has the Board considered expanding the
driveway at the recreation center? I think this will
help reduce the curbside parking. I look forward to your response.
Have a good weekend!

Pete Tevlin - 2/17/00
Thank you for your input Angela! It's good to hear someone is reading
and see that folks still care... makes you wish everyone did. Please
contact Melissa Coleman if you are charged up enough to want to help
with some aspect of the task force.
I think people CAN park a legal vehicle on the public streets
indefinitely. Too bad that many WANT to. We have asked in the
newsletter for folks to use their driveways instead of the street,
and got one unhappy response to this request (see the Speakout! web
page, 8/1/99). Maybe the street parkers don't want to get oil
drippings on their driveway... but the street is okay!?

Angela Milton - 2/17/00 - New Deed Restriction Enforcement Policy
WAY TO GO!!!!!!!! I was so impressed when I read about the new
enforcement strategy. I'm certain that this will improve the
appearance of our neighborhood. It can be very disturbing for the
residents who do spend a lot of time (and money) to keep our homes
attractive to live around those who obviously don't care as much. I
think the next issue on the agenda is to reduce the number of cars
parked on the street vs. the driveways or garages. Is is possible to
adopt a new restriction making it mandatory that all cars be parked
in the driveway by a certain time? How do other neighborhoods handle
this issue?
You guys are doing a tremendous job at keeping our neighborhood
looking great!!!!!!!

Vinette Meikle Harris 2/10/00
It is good to hear about the steps that are being taken to improve
our neighborhood. One of the things that puzzle me is that we do not
have a tennis court in our neighborhood. When we bought our home we
asked the builders about this and they said that could be a
possibility in the near future. However over all these years we have
not seen any. My husband is a tennis pro and my children and I are
learning the game and find it quite inconvenient at times to go
elsewhere to play. This would definitely be a good way to use some of
our dues money.
Nathan Gaskill - GASBLD at aol.com 2/7/99
Subject: Vandalism
My son's red Jeep Wrangler was parked in our driveway last night
behind my car. Between 10pm and 11:30pm, someone egged the Jeep
severely. The top was off so eggs got all over the inside as well as
the exterior. My son discovered it when he arrived home at 11:30, had
to clean up the inside and take it to a car wash to prevent further
damage. We did not call the police because we didn't know about it
until 9:00am today.
Parents need to get their kids involved in meaningful things rather
than the kids being bored and looking for thrills in destructive ways.
I still haven't heard from James about what is going on with the
crime watch in our neighborhood, in fact I don't know if meetings are
taking place any more. I volunteered to be a block captain
but.............!!
Pete Tevlin
Thanks for your note to the web page. I agree that the solicitors are
often an annoyance. There IS a No Soliciting sign at the entrance
(since July '96) and something can be done when they invade. Here is
the text from past newsletters regarding this:

March 1998
Solicitors Do annoying solicitors coming at odd hours and refusing to
leave bother you? Just so you know, there is a NO SOLICITING sign
posted at the entrance to our subdivision. To help all of your
neighbors avoid the interruption; you may want to tell the unwanted
solicitor this:
"This neighborhood collectively decided that outside solicitors are
unwelcome, we have posted signs to this effect; you are wasting your
time and many neighbors WILL call the authorities to have you removed"
If any solicitor looks or acts suspiciously or makes you feel
uncomfortable in any way, you can call the Constables Office at (281)
376-3472 or the Sheriffs Office at (713) 221-6003. They will dispatch
an officer to run them off. Here's an Idea: If your children want to
sell fund-raiser products in our neighborhood have them carry a White
Oak Landing Car Decal Sticker and show it when they present their
products. In that way we all know who is and isn't supposed to be
here. Thank you to one of our newest residents, Dean Loven, for that
idea and mostly for taking an interest!
July 1996
HAVE YOU NOTICED OUR NEW "NO SOLICITING" SIGN?
Let me start off by saying that the sign is not meant for anyone
living in our subdivision, we all love to buy from the neighbor kids!
I am sure most of you have been bothered by outsiders selling candy,
meat or restaurant coupons. Hopefully, this sign will deter most of
that. (The sign is located on the right side of the entrance when
coming into the subdivision.) If someone comes to your door and they
do not live in the neighborhood, you can tell them to leave the
subdivision, and you have the right to call the Sheriff's Dept. (221-
6000).
Michael Mathews
I would like to speak out about the outside solicitation that occurs
every so often. Don't get me wrong I have no problem with the
neighbors children knocking on the door to sell something for their
school projects, scouts or whatever. I do get frustrated when some
stranger comes knocking on my door trying to sell me cleaners or
visit a restaurant. Is there something that can be done to keep the
outsiders out? Maybe a sign at the entrance stating "SOLICITATION
PROHIBITED" I don't know what else can be done but when I am home to
relax and enjoy the peace this neighborhood brings I do not what to
be bothered by the outside world. If someone else out there feels the
same way I would be interested on what you have to say.
Janet, Contact Connie Dunn for all the info on Playgroup, maybe you
can head the committee? Pete

Janet Angst 1/31/00
Is there still a playgroup in the subdivision? If so, who can I
contact? Thanks.

Kelli Kearns - 1/18/00
I was so thrilled to read all the letters from concerned neighbors
about yard maintenance. It was nice to see I am not the only
concerned person living Here! I am suggesting a "clean up your curb
day" for the subdivision. I receive other communities' newsletters
and one idea I obtained is this one.
Twice a year we choose a weekend day and invite all neighbors to get
out and sweep/pick up the curbs surrounding our homes. The streets
will look much nicer and we could sparkle into summer! It would be
great exercise and only take 15 minutes per neighbor to "just do it"
as they say! I have walked the neighborhood along time (every
morning) and the trash i pick up and see every day is terrible. Let's
all jump in and sparkle the streets this spring!
Allens landing group! We had a great time at our new years block
party! Thank you Terri & Vernon Mize for opening up your home and all
the hard work! Jill and Mike Reese your shrimp peeling abilities were
great, as well as our grand chef - Mike Jones - gumbo steamed up the
new year! The yards looked great for the season and made our
festivities even better! Thanks to all the neighbors for food and
fireworks! Happy 2 0 0 0 !!!

Melissa Coleman 12/20
Dear Concerned Neighbor, The following is a letter I wrote regarding
your concerns...
I am organizing a task force to find and implement solutions
regarding the enforcement of deed restrictions, therefore, improving
upon the appearance of White Oak Landing. There have been many
complaints here, to AMI and to the Board. We do have a legal course
of action although, it is time consuming and costly to the
Association. I am willing to head up this task force in hopes of
finding a long term solution that will also create a sense of
community pride. If you find yourself complaining about this issue
and want to see a change, then I strongly encourage you to email me
or call AMI at 713-932-1122 and join me in finding ways to solve this
issue. Thank you, Melissa
This was placed on the Speak Out web page in October, discussed at
the Annual HOA meeting and printed in the November newsletter. Can
you guess how many responses I have received? Not a single individual
inquired. With such response, the process will continue to be lengthy
and will also be costly to our Association. At our November Board of
Directors meeting, we established a new procedure for enforcing our
deed restrictions that we hope will speed up the process somewhat.
However, this will still cost the Association. With only 5
volunteers, this will be very challenging. Look in your January
newsletter for the new procedure the Board will be attempting to
implement.
I cannot agree more with your complaint. However, I believe you can
address a problem in one of two ways: 1) sit back and wait for
someone else to fix it or 2) get involved and help make our community
a better place to live. That is exactly why I am on the board today.
I wanted to see more done. What I have learned in this undertaking is
that there are only a few doing the work for 330 homes. That is
difficult. Fortunately, WOL has board members that are extremely
active in accomplishing our goals. Again, look in the January
newsletter for more details. Thank you for voicing your opinion and
know that your concerns will be addressed.

Concerned Neighbor 12/18
Why are yards in our subdivision still lacking in yard maintenance!
There are at least 10+ yards that have grass hanging over the edge of
their curb, and that is on Oak Acres only! I am very tired of paying
the dues to AMI and they fail to improve on the one request we
continue to bring up at each annual meeting - yard maintenance in the
subdivision! We need to take more action and I would like to know
what the board has in its plans for 2000 to accomplish this
mission? The same complaint is really getting old!

Nathan Gaskill 12/13 Subject: Neighborhood Crime
I heard about the Christmas decoration theft and couldn't believe
what I heard would happen in our neighborhood!!! Bonnie and I
attended the Crime Watch meeting, I volunteered to be a Block Captain
but haven't heard anything since. Also, neighbors that have been
vandalized need to be encouraged to call and notify, not only the
proper authorities, but who to call in our neighborhood so we can
together take proper action to prevent further crime. Pete, I think
it would be a good idea to notify all residents where they can get
the WOL stickers to put on their vehicles. Yesterday evening and last
night, we started writing down license plate numbers and vehicle
descriptions on those that do not have the stickers. We have seen too
many suspicious vehicles in the neighborhood. I am willing to
volunteer my services to do whatever is necessary to keep our
subdivision safe and desirable. It is disturbing to know a few are
leaving due to their crime experience. This doesn't bode well for our
community or our future property values.

Melissa Coleman 11/27
There will be no Board of Directors meeting on December 21 due to the
holidays. Our next meeting will be January 18.

Pete
Yea! Thanks for the follow up note! Welcome to the neighborhood too!
Patrice and Mark
Good Morning!! See, the power of positive thinking and good
neighbors! My husband woke me this morning with my kitty in his arms!
Don't know where she spent the last 2 nights but she was on our
lounge chair this AM! We knew we'd love this neighborhood. We are
really happy here in our first home! BTW, we bought Jim & Shelley
Wolff's home. I think they were well known here. Anyway, thanks
again Pete. We'll see you around!! With gratitude,

Pete
Hi again, Glad to be of assistance! Hope she comes home soon.

Patrice 11/13/99
Just wanted to thank you again for your help and placing Clio on the
marquee. It's a sad day, no word yet but we'll keep our fingers
crossed. I feel hopeful with the word out. Much thanks,

Patrice and Mark 11/13/99
Thank you Pete! No sign of her yet - : ( Our address is 13514
Lynnville Will join the e-mail list. Looking forward to meeting you
some day. Thanks SOO much.

Pete Tevlin 11/12/99
Hi to you too! Thanks for your note and positive comments - makes it
all worthwhile and I'm glad you like the WOL site! Have you joined
the email list? I'll put Clio's info on the marquee and ask anyone
to call me (or call your #, if you send it) or to email the website
if they've found her. Reply with your phone number or address please -
I don't know you yet.

Patrice McArthy - 11/12/99
Hi neighbor! My husband and I just discovered one of our cats is
missing, maybe as long as 24 hours. What's the best way for me to
post this info on the website? She is a short-haired black spayed
female named Clio. She is nineteen years old so you can imagine our
concern. She does not have a collar or tags because they come off
sooner or later and she's been hurt by them before. She is very
friendly and would go to anyone so I'm hoping someone has taken her
in. She also looks like she is missing her right ear from an earlier
injury.
I enjoy the website, it's very useful and informative, especially
since I'm an RN and work nights. Thanks!
Thanks for your time, any help you can offer would be greatly
appreciated. Yours sincerely,

Melissa Coleman - 11/4/99
Pete, I wanted to let you know that the Board meetings have been
changed to the third Tuesday of each month. This will start this
month and the meeting is November 16th. Thanks
Scott Bowen - 10/29/99
i would just like to thank Melissa Coleman and her husband for coming
over the other night to talk to my wife and I about my earlier post
regarding cars parked in the street and the lack of other deed
restrictions. Thanks! And congratulations on becoming a Board member!
Sorry we could not make the meeting.

Pete, your web page is really awesome!!! I read all the letters and
am amazed at what some people write in a neighborhood online
publication, but I guess it is good to vent frustrations. I don't
feel they should be so personally directed.

Tami Weber - 10/17/99
Pete, Again, I would like to say "Pete, you are doing a wonderful
job!" I am pleased to see such a great response to the "Speak Out"
page. This is such a great way for neighbors to communicate and I am
happy to see that so many are sharing their concerns and comments
about the neighborhood.

Tri Nguyen - Concerned Neighbor - 10/13/99
Hi, my name is Bryan and I am a student at a university. Living at
White Oak Landing has been very pleasant for me. However, over the
years, there has been several things which really have bothered me.
First, many yards are not being cut and cared for. It is a duty
everyone in this neighborhood should have. Not only does it make the
yards nice, but also the neighborhood. A few houses on my street are
in immediate attention. Some of their yards are all dead. What kind
of image will that put for others who are trying their best to
maintain a good-looking yard? Secondly, Too many cars are not parked
where they're supposed to. Neighbors should try to avoid parking on
the streets. Cars should be parked on driveways or in the garage.
That is what they were made for in the first place. Management should
really begin to take actions to enforce the deed restrictions. I,
like many other concerned residents, would like to see major changes
in the our subdivision to enhance the beauty of our community.

Scott Bowen 13310 Corzatt - 10/12/99
This is my first visit to the website and it is very nice, but I
would like to share some concerns I have that seem to be on a lot of
other peoples minds as well.
My first complaint, and my biggest one would have to be cars parked
it the street. I am really disappointed everyday when I come home to
find cars parked in the street (and not even close to the curb) in
front of houses that have empty driveways.
Why is this?
In my case, finding the neighbor's daughter's car parked in front of
my house, leaking oil in the street and making me wonder I paid as
much money for my cute house to have to look at this eyesore in front
of it. Can any one tell me why this car is parked in front of my
house when their driveway is empty and there is nothing parked in
front of their house?
The other complaint would probably be the lack of lawn maintenance
enforcement. Some of the houses look like a scale model of a hayfield.
This makes my wife and I wonder if decided to buy our first house in
the right neighborhood at all. We thought it was going to be a nice
area and I had high hopes when I was reading the deed restrictions,
but I have decided that they are not enforced and pretty much just
there for looks.
I sure would like to start seeing our "Management" start doing the
enforcement that they seem to push in their booklet that you receive
when you move in.
Makes you wonder what those yearly dues are for.....

DEBI SEYLER - 10/11/99
I was in a total state of shock when my son cried "Mom, they are
cutting down the trees!" I thought it was HL&P sending someone to
massacre the trees again and my son said "No Mom, they are cutting
them all down!" He was in tears. We have enjoyed the shade those
trees provided and the guests we have enjoyed that have vistied our
back yard under the cover of those trees such as rabbits, many types
of birds, a possum or two, by the condition of my flower beds, a
possible armidillo! We had our own little nature center in our
backyard thanks to the trees. They saved one tree behind our fence
thank to our neighbor because he saw the treehouse that my husband
and two sons' had built. We wonder how long it will be there. To make
a long story short, for the first time in the 7 years we have lived
here we are actually looking for a new place to live. A place where
someone can not come and mow down the trees with out even the
courtesy of letting the homeowner know. Why people take! Mother
Nature for granted, I will never know, you would think by now we
would learn from our mistakes,(ie:Cypress Creek).

Nathan Gaskill - 10/11/99
Did you know there was already a two car accident at this
intersection. It happened right in front of me. A lady was sitting at
the White Oak Landing light, after she thought the Huffmeister
traffic cleared, she made a left turn on a red light and was struck
by a car going Northbound on Huffmeister. She didn't see the car. She
said since our light says "left turn yield" that she could turn even
though the light is red. I have seen many people do this. The sign
should say "left turn yield on green.
Also the Southbound Huffmeister left turn sign says "left turn
signal." I also see many people turn left on red, some very close
misses. This light also should say "left turn yield on green"
or "left on green arrow only." I don't think the people that have
these signs installed really think about how some peoples minds work.
The signs should leave no misunderstanding as to what their intent is.

Melissa Coleman - 10/11/99
To everyone interested in the Community Yard Sale this weekend, Pete
was right in the fact that it is each yard for itself. The
Association is paying for the advertisement in the Houston Chronicle
and will post signs at the front of the subdivision and with a little
luck on Huffmeister in various places. I am glad to hear there is
interest in this idea. Good Luck!

Pete Tevlin - 10/11/99
Hi Jon, Sorry for not replying sooner. I think the deal is to just
have a garage sale and the Assn. is taking care of signs/advertising.
I'm not aware of any signup or I would have put a signup page on the
web site sooner -it may be too late now. If you'd want to coordinate
this and make a map for the entrance with sales marked on it - I can
put an item on the marquee for neighbors to call you if they are
participating, then we could post a map at the entry Friday -
interested?
The newsletter didn't mention a web signup... here's the text:
Thanks for visiting the web site! We are participating Friday too and
maybe Saturday - good luck on your sale!

Jon Huckels - 13402 Ryan Landing - 10/7/99
Pete, Where do we sign up for the subdivision yard sale? I thought
the hardcopy newsletter directed us to the website; but I couldn't
find anything. Did I miss it?

Karl Volkmann - 10/6/99
Thank you sir!
I am thinking about drafting a letter to the water district and have
everyone that lost trees sign it. Any additional information would be
appreciated.
>> Editors note, see more on this issue on the Your Neighborhood page.

Pete Tevlin - 10/5/99
Hi Karl,
I believe they just started cutting without letting anyone know. They
are going to bury a new water line for White Oak Springs. Tiffany
Pate contacted someone on this and know more about it. She was upset
too that all the backyard shade was removed. I've forwarded this note
to her for her further comment.

Karl Volkmann - 10/5/99
I'm curious to know if anyone heard any mention of the trees being
cut down prior to it actually happening? Needless to say, I was/am
highly upset to come home and find that all the trees running
parallel to White Oak bayou were leveled without informing the
residents who own property to the south of Lynnville Drive. Granted,
the county or water district can do anything they please along their
easement, but I think that it would be common courtesy to inform the
residents who would be directly effected by this decision. Any
comments??
Ruchi Bhambhani - 9/12/99
hi! i just wanted to let u know that in the white oak landing
directory, the word hospitals was spelled wrong. also, i think this
is a great neighborhood! thanx

Tom Fowler - Oak Acres - Concerning the annexation of White Oak
Springs - 9/5/99
I am against the annexation of White Oak Springs into our HOA. In
addition to the already mentioned reasons of increased traffic, lack
of parking, potential that a young child my be injured or killed
crossing Huffmeister and the potential for a law suit, I am concerned
about home values.
The new builders homes will be in direct competition to our older
resale homes. It is safe to say that they will enjoy some advantage
by being newer and may also contain features that our homes may not
contain. The fact that we have a pool and they don't may level the
playing field and allow our older homes compete. This can help us get
a higher selling price when we are ready to sell.
I used to sell homes for new home builders and I know the value of
having a pool in the neighborhood. This builder recognizes it also!.
This is the only reason they want anything to do with us. The offer
of $28,000 is an insult. The cost to them to put in a pool area is
many times that. They are hoping that we don' t know what we are
doing.
Please let them know we do know what we are doing and vote NO!

I apologize that I did not get my proxy card mailed in time, I found
it on my mail table the day before the meeting and mailed it then. I
think including White Oak Springs into our HOA will be a positive
plus to our subdivision. I just visited the neighborhood web page
and it is absolutely GREAT!! You have done a terrific job on this and
I thank you. Hopefully everyone that is online will sign up for the
email thing...I did. I really appreciate you delivering me the WOL
stickers. I don't know how you all find time to do all the things you
do for our subdivision...I certainly appreciate everything you all
do!!!

Eric Price - 9/2/99
Pete, Thanks for taking care of that so quickly (putting the note
about page one of the mailout on the web/marquee). We appreciate your
efforts on the web site and on the entry sign. These two tools are
really the fastest and most up to date means of communication we have.
Speaking of that, I was in another subdivision recently that had 2
message boards. One was positioned so it could be read when entering
the subdivision. The other was situated where it could be read while
leaving the subdivision. I wonder if this might be worth considering
in the future. Just a thought. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know
that we appreciate your efforts.

Melissa Coleman - 9/1/99
Hi, Pete. I visited the website for the first time today and it is
great. Thanks for all the obvious work you have put into it.

Sabra Kramer - 9/1/999
Pete, we are accepting proxies for a week or so please have the
homeowners send in the proxies. The Board still needs the 2/3 vote
for both topics. Thank you,

Why has nothing been done about the house at the entrance that has
the TERRIBLE yard. Why do we all keep our house and and yards looking
great, but they do not? And why is nothing done by the Home Owner's
Assoc.? Concerned Residents,

Sabra Kramer - 8/25/99
Jeff, I send out letters concerning flowerbeds, inoperable cars,
boats, painting,a basket ball goal in the street, etc. Concerning the
speeding cars please contact the Constables office at 281-463-6300.
Letters are sent on a monthly basis to homeowners that are not in
compliance. Most homeowners maybe unaware of the positive response of
the letters, due to the location ofthe homes. I would prefer to try
any means possible to contact the homeowner and inform them of the
violations before action is taken.Homes will be present to the Board
for legal action once the proper channels have been crossed. Letter's
are sent to the resident, the Board approves that legal action must
take place. The Association must have all of the proper documentation
to go forward with a lawsuit. If the suit is handled incorrectly the
case could be lost and the association may be liable for all of the
Attorney fees. I believe that the Attorney should be utilized for
homes within White Oak Landing, but the decision should be carefully
considered. The Board feels that this offer to annex White Oak Springs
should be presented to the homeowners. It is your decision and right
to be notified of any offers that are made concerning White Oak
Landing. This annexation as it states in the notice, has been
presented to annex homes within the neighborhood that are currently
not part of the association. I am unable to take any legal action on
these fifteen homes. I am not aware of the home with Christmas lights
if you could please send me the address I will notifythe homeowner of
this violation. I am not in the neighborhood on a daily basis, if
there is a violation please give us a call and I will inspect the
property. We appreciate your response and involvement. The number to
AMI is 713-932-1122. Sabra

Verjeef - 8/23/99
I live at 13606 Lynnville Dr. First of all we are concerned that
the deed restrictions are not being enforced in our neighborhood or
on our street.

Examples... Yards are not being maintained, non-functional cars are
sitting on streets and in driveways.. basketball goals being left in
the streets, speeding cars on residential streets, there is a
household on my street that still have christmas lights still up from
last christmas, and much much more.

I don't think that its a good idea to include another subdivision in
our homeowners association when we don't even take care of our
present needs in this subdivision. We have emailed you on numerous
occasions because of these very important concerns we have. We have
been here 3 1/2 years and not seen any changes yet. When we moved
here we thought this might be a good subdivision to live but we are
now regretting our decision due to the lack of deed restriction
enforcement. It is really sad that we pay money only to have a pool.
Please respond to this email... thanks...

I'm a member of the White Oak Landing Board of Directors. I'm happy
to see the web site is generating so much feedback. The comments we
receive from this section of the web site help the board to gauge the
priorities and concerns of the subdivision. I wanted to respond to
another posters question. He didnt understand why the board would
present an idea like the White Oak Springs Annexation to the
homeowners of our subdivision. I'm going to take a shot at explaining
the reasoning behind our decision. The White Oak Springs Annexation
represents a rare opportunity that will allow the Homeowners
Association the chance to provide more and better amenities to the
residents of the White Oak Landing at a lower cost. It is very rare
for one subdivision to wish to be annexed into another's HOA. It
would have been irresponsible and arrogant for the Board to dismiss
this opportunity without allowing the subdivision homeowners a chance
to be heard on this issue through thier vote. It is my belief that
the 300 or so homeowners of this subdivision deserve to hear the pros
and cons on the issue and deserve the right to vote for or against
the annexation. The Board saw that this proposal has some very
positive things to offer White Oak Landing. The Board is also aware,
as Mike and Carla Young have eloquently pointed out, that the
proposal also has some drawbacks. The biggest thing I have learned in
this job is that, on virtually every issue, there are always wide and
differing opinions within the subdivision. The thing I try to
remember is that every one who states an opinion on an issue is
voicing thier vision of the best subdivision White Oak Landing can
be. Just because thier vision might be different doesnt make thier
point less valid. As board members, we strive to represent all the
homeowners. Therefore, giving each homeowner the right to vote for or
against this proposition seems to be the right and fair thing to do.
Personally, I think that 300 homeowners, each voting for what he
believes is best, will yeild the right decision for White Oak Landing
everytime.

Brenda MacPherson - 8/8/99
Pete,I just stopped by to check out the new website after reading the
newsletter, and you've done a great job! The new look is wonderful!

David Stoll - 8/7/99
Thank you Mike and Carla Young for articulating what I believe to be
thegeneral consensus of the White Oal Landing residents. Which leads
me tothe question, Why would our current Board of Directors even
considersuch a lame proposal to begin with and subject its community
to thisinsane idea? My sentiments are to let the pool proposal drown
withoutany hope of resuscitation.

Laura Price - 8/5/99
The web-site is nice... I am curious...which street is the quiet
one??? My children can not evenplayin my front yard without the fear
of speeding cars. Hmmm

Tami Weber - 8/4/99
Pete, you are doing a wonderful job with the website! The pictures
on "Your Neighborhood" are terrific. Keep up the great work!

Tami Weber - 8/3/99
In response to Mr. Kennedy's remarks regarding the "Vehicles"
article, I agree the author seems to have a personal agenda and
perhaps the newsletter was not the best place to address it. Here
ends my agreement with him!
First, I have three children and it is impossible to monitor them
100% of the time. Your accusation that the author is not a
concientious parent is very harsh and unfair!
Second, I don't think the author is "mandating" anything - just
asking for a little common courtesy!
Third, if you feel there are more important issues that need to be
addressed, get involved!

Mike and Carla Young - 8/2/99
Dear Members of the WOL Board of Directors:
Our family is opposed to the annexation of White Oak Springs for the
following reasons:
1. Pool Size: We believe our pool is not large enough to accomodate
families from an additional 140 homes. Overpopulating the pool
increases the possibilities of accidents and drownings and decreases
enjoyment of the pool.
One day last week while visiting our pool, the lifeguards had to turn
people away because we had reached our limit for the number of people
already using the pool. We would like to be able to visit the pool
anytime without the possibility of being turned away. Further-more,
too many people in the pool makes it hard to manuever and have fun.
2. Increased Traffic: We live on Tryon across from the pool, and
because Tryon is a major artery into the subdivision, traffic is
already very heavy traveling past the pool. We regularly see speeding
cars taking the curve on the wrong side of the street. Although this
is a playground area and one frequented by children on foot and on
bicycles, it is already a dangerous zone. Adding additional homes
will increase traffic and decrease the safety of our children
traveling to and from the pool. Also, allowing cars from another
neighborhood could potentially diminish our control of non-
subdivision traffic within our neighborhood, potentially increasing
crime, etc.
3. Increased liability: a) By increasing by 50% the numbers of
persons visiting our pool, volleyball court and playground, we are
naturally increasing by 50% the chances of someone being hurt. White
Oak Landing residents will bear increased liability insurance in
taking on the White Oak Springs residents. Do we want to increase our
exposure to legal action by taking on more homes? b) If we should
work with White Oak Springs to put in a crosswalk on Huffmeister, all
of the homeowners take on the risk and liability of children coming
into our subdivision across this major road. If a child is hurt or
killed on Huffmeister, we homeowners may bear the financial
consequences of potential lawsuits levied against our association.
4. Parking: It is very apparent we need additional parking to safely
access the pool and commons area, but if we build the parking spaces
necessary to accomodate 140 additional families, the size of the
parking lot will be much larger than if we restrict use to White Oak
Landing residents. At past meetings, residents have expressed
concerns about potential drug use and the selling of drugs in our
commons area. As homeowners living across from the commons and
parking areas, we have observed questionable behaviors throughout the
eight years we have lived here. A large parking lot could encourage
loitering by non-residents as well as residents and could become a
magnet for crime, increased vandalism and loud music, disturbing the
peace of our neighborhood. Size and placement of the increased
parking needs to be planned with these problems in mind.
Additional Revenues? Is the initial $28,000 plus the additional
revenues through homeowners fees offered to us by White Oak Springs
worth the increased liability, increased traffic, increased
maintenance and upkeep of our pool and commons areas, as well as the
increased parking problems? We do not think so.
We believe we can continue to make improvements in our subdivision
with the funds generated through White Oak Landing resieents. We are
also not in favor of building a clubhouse, one of the stated
potential uses of the additional revenues, especially if it means
annexing White Oak Springs. Our experience has shown that most
subdivision clubhouses are used very little, and only a handful of
residents feel benefited by having one available.
Let's keep White Oak Landing a great place to live! Sincerely,

Anthony Kennedy - 8/1/99
Just a note to inform you and the anonymous author, that the context
of the message in the news letter is of personal and individual
concern and is not shared by the many readers of this paper.
First, the children. I am a parent. My responsibility to my child is
the same as yours, and parked cars has nothing to do with. If you
monitored your children, you will never have to worry about them
darting out into the street from behind parked cars. It works for me.
You would be surprised at what a little parenting could manifest.
Second, the confines of personal property does not bare the same laws
as public property. Anyone who is a tax payer has the tax paying
right to park on any street in this country. Their are no laws that
dictates property lines on the public streets. Who gives you the
audacity to mandate such a restriction, and I quote; "Please be
courteous and park on the proper side of the street in front of your
own home". Please!
Unless, the ground says (No Parking) I will continue to park on the
public street at will. Last, for once I would like to see this paper
and so called community concentrate on some of the more meaningful
issues plaguing this area besides their personal OPINION, such as
animals running loose throughout the neighborhood not collared or
tagged; the rush of home invasions; children drowning in the
community pool; public posting boards; invitations for others to join
this community; and minding your own d*m* business which applies to
numerous of the current residents..

Darnell Milton - 7/30/99
My family just moved to the community and I have to agree with Tisa's
comments back in May. I would rather see improved landscaping at the
entrance than money wasted on flags. We have enough parked cars
along the park area without allowing more people in. I SAY NO! Let
them find somewhere else to go. Not only will access gates give me a
sense of security but will add real appeal to our community.
Lauren Masraff - 7/21/99
I would like to be able to post discussions about a variety of issues
for White Oak Landing. Especially about the flagpoles and any kind of
annexation of White Oak Springs. Let me know what I need to do for
this. FYI, the deja-whatever page that we apparently use for these
discussions isn't the most easily understood website.
Thanks!

J Nowak - 6/10/99
I just read on the website that the recycling will be stopped. We
were one of the big supporters of this and yet whenever we put out
our cans they were never picked up (the same with our neighbors). It
seems that the pick-up dates and times were not effectively
communicated. It's a shame that the program will be discontinued
especially since I have a garbage can full of cans!

Randy Wieland - 6/8/99
Great looking site. Lots of information! It had been awhile since I
visited it, and I was impressed. Keep up the good work!

Jon Huckels - 5/14/99
In the news letter you indicated that there is potential for another
subdivision to join our association and receive the benefit of the
pool, etc. My questions are as follows:
1. If the additional families join, will the parking lot at the pool
be enlarged to accomodate the increased traffic? If not, where are
the people going to park? If so, how is it going to be paid for?
2. In the news letter savings on dues were hinted at if additional
people were allowed to use our ammenities. What is the potential
savings per homeowner? Can these savings be guaranteed in writing?
3. Has any consideration been given to possibly covering the
basketball court with a permanent cover? Since it appears that the
basketball goals will never be put back up it could be used as a
pavillion that would make summer picnics at the park a reality.
Tisa McKim - 5/12/99
NO! on the flags at the entrance. a waste of money. sounds like
trying to "play with the big boys" with shows of affluence. more or
better landscaping i would support, but not flags.

NO! on the annexation of the new subdivision. we have enough problems
without importing new ones. i pay sufficiently for the right to
privacy and our pool and park were not designed to support that many
additional people.

YES! on the gates... it would provide some semblance of reassurance
since i've never seen a policeman in our subdivision except when
called. but i've sure seen and been the victim of
unauthorized "guests" with sticky fingers.

we also desperately need SPEED BUMPS and the bureaucratic red tape
about it being county roads needs to be addressed and changed before
a child is killed. it's only a matter of time as things stand
currently.

thanks for listening.. please forward to the appropriate parties as
necessary.

ps.. i couldn't find this survey on the website... why not?

Hung Le - 5/18/99
FYI...There are at least 14 car owners, in the White Oak Landing
subdivision, who wake up Sunday Morning to see that their cars have
one or two punctured tires.

I drove around with a pen and a piece of paper, and this is what I
got: Most of the damaged cars are the ones that parked on the street
overnight These are the streets that get hit: Carzatt, Allens
Landing, Denver Oaks,
Marshfield, White Oak Landing, Ryan Landing, Tryon

I also jotted down the address of the victims

Board Members, please think of an action to deal with this
situation. Maybe calling a meeting to put our heads together for a
solution to investigate and insure that we will not have to wake up
in this horrible situation in the future.

Deanna Kilmer 5/17/99
Awesome! I absolutely LOVE what you've done with it! That map is WAY
COOL! I like the "new" items. I do have some mor information I want
to help with. I just hate to bother you guys when Pete is at home. I
know that sometimes hard enough to have quality time with the kids, I
hate to impose. I think I'll try to type up an e-mail for you if I
have time. Maybe that would be easier. This site just keeps getting
better.
I noticed Hale's stuff is gone. I like the way you set up the "ad"
for him. I also like the picture of the entry. Can we take some more
of the Park and Pool for those topics. I also like the way you added
the newsletter. It makes it so easy to access. You are so creative!
Keep up the great work. Thanks alot!

Brenda MacPherson - 3/8/99
I am responding to an article in last month's newsletter on stop
signs and speeding in our community. I wholeheartedly agree that
traffic laws should be obeyed, for everyone's safety. However, after
watching yet another report on the news tonight of a four-year old
child being run over in a road in a neighborhood similar to ours', I
feel it would be negligent not to also stress the importance of
keeping an eye on our young children. I cannot count the amount of
times that my husband and I have been driving through our
neighborhood and have seen small children (ages 2-5 years old)
playing unsupervised in the streets! Older children can have
the 'rules of road- safety' explained to them, but younger children
often do not understand the dangers of careless drivers. In order to
keep our young children safe, it has got to be a joint effort: be
careful and obey traffic laws while driving and keep an eye on your
little ones to keep them out of harm's way.
