ECO Bell is Growing, Changing, Re-arranging
We're looking for new community members.
Join us--and live the change you want to see in the world!

The EcoIntegrity Center of Bellingham (ECO Bell), the major project of the non-
profit organization Attraction Retreat (www.attractionretreat.org), is a small
urban intentional community, an evolving model of sustainability, and a
counseling/ education/ community center located in beautiful Bellingham, WA.
Our property, 2 2/3 lots in the "Lettered Streets Neighborhood," includes a
small 110 year old cottage and a 3-story 105 year old Victorian house with 4
bedrooms, 3 ½ baths, a residents' living room on the top floor (great view!),
a bright kitchen, patio, garage with workshop, and a ground-floor living room/
dining room /activists' research center which is used for classes, workshops,
and public gatherings. Other amenities include: utilities, Internet connected
computers for use in the activists' research center, phone, a permaculture-
based community garden, laundry, and numerous shared household items. An added
bonus is that we're located along the Old Village Trail, with easy pedestrian
and bicycle access to downtown and several nearby parks.

Our mission is to use the model provided by healthy and sustainable natural
systems to catalyze personal empowerment, societal transformation, and
environmental sustainability--and, in addition to being a developing
demonstration model of how to increase urban density while decreasing our
ecological footprint and increasing quality of life indicators, we also provide
tools for the wider community to do the same. One of our goals is the training
of interns to take the Natural Systems Thinking Process, the principles of
urban permaculture, the Earth Charter, and progressive social change into the
greater community to either start their own centers or act as consultants in
existing centers, ecovillages, or intentional communities. We are now looking
for community members who are in sync with our mission and goals, and who want
to join with us to live and promote the change we all want to see in the world.

Our community is in the process of re-arranging the on-site living component,
and 3 rooms in the Big House will be available as of November 1st. We are
looking for a diverse group of people interested in green design, permaculture,
social change, earth-based spirituality, being active participants in a local
living economy, and simple, sustainable living.

Fees range from $250 - $350 per month for single occupancy, with an additional
$75 per month for an additional room occupant.

Food and meals are an integral part of community life. When our new community
members join us, we will use consensus to determine how it will work best for
us to enjoy the benefits of food purchasing, preparation, and meal sharing.

Responsibilities include: attending and preparing for regular community
meetings, 2 hours of labor a week (like taking out the trash, composting,
emptying the dish drain, cleaning common spaces), 4 hours of house maintenance
a month (like painting, plumbing, sewing, gardening, mowing, installing energy-
conservation measures, etc.) and participation in special house projects. We're
looking for people who plan to stay for at least six months.

Interested? Call for an appointment to come by and see us!
