Wetdowns are an old tradition with the volunteer fire departments protecting New Jersey and are growing in popularity in nearby areas of other states to celebrate the acquisition of new fire apparatus, vehicles, firehouses and other facilities. The best way to describe a wetdown is a big party with refreshments and music along with visiting fire departments who hose down the new vehicle(s) and/or buildings. In addition to fire departments many first aid, ambulance and rescue squads also host wetdowns. Much discussion about these affairs along with pictures can be found at groups such as Firepics. Messages and pics concerning housings other types of dedication ceremonies and celebrations involving the fire and emergency services are also most welcome.
