Going on what was said at the AGM and the Gerry newsletters, stone from
Heights is certainly in the frame, but coal from Tow Law has overtaken
it. The Tow Law opencast site is pretty much a runner I think with or
without the railway. There's a raft of opencast proposals coming
forward in NW Durham South Northumberland (Whittonstall is another).

Maybe there will be coal from Tow Law. I know nothing about it.
But what has happened to the limestone from Haights quarry?. I thought that was supposed to be the mineral traffic that was going to be the economic basis of the Weardale Railway. Is that in addition to the coal from Tow Law?.

Yes, there is, at Tow Law.
A public consultation was held in Wolsingham last Monday night.
It seems that coal traffic away from Wolsingham is now very likely.
Gerald Mudd's e newsletter has fully reported this and I suggest any
list member wanting copious and up to date information on the many
positive developments on the line requests him to go onto the address
list.
I much enjoyed the AGM special on the 141 which went some way south of
Harperley.

Guys
Recent "snippets" include the following in regard to the Wolsingham depot :
"three of the original sidings have been removed and one newly positioned siding
relaid. This will make room for one long siding to accommodate the coal wagons
for loading from an adjacent pad. As part of the project additional land has
been leased from the adjacent landowner for the extended loading siding"
What's all this about coal wagons?. I thought the mineral traffic was supposed
to be limestone from Haights quarry. Is there any coal extraction around
Wolsingham?.
