Just seen in Weardale Railway update that landed in my email in box
Main Line Connection: Network Rail had originally planned to connect us
at Bishop Auckland on July 4th/5th. With apologies for not meeting that
date, they will advise a new date as soon as possible.

Unfortunately that sounds to me like "kicked into touch". One way or
another it suggests that one or both parties were not able to meet each
other's expectations.
Having so publicly stated X would happen and it would seem Network Rail
had stated this as much as anyone, for X not to happen will - at least
to those who follow these things - add to the lost list of dreams and
hopes frustrated in the saga of revitalising the line. I just hope that
before long this view will be reversed by actions.
As Ed Ellis pointed out at Stanhope last year, if this was the USA, this
would have been one of the simplest and cheapest of track exercises done
in a few hours. He must find it all very frustrating.
