Description

The ability to see, hear and speak are useless in the absence of adequate water. Water is the basis of life. Most life forms are born in water and live in it. O water stream come near me. You are the elixir of immortality.
-Atharva veda
We are working as WaterWatch, an alliance for water resources. We are not an NGO. Today world's supply of fresh water is such that one person in five has no access to safe drinking water amid increasing desertification, land degradation, drought, flood and pollution. Notably, agriculture and virtual water occupies more environment than others.
WaterWatch proposes people centric local solutions which is historically linked to land use and energy. It opposes surrendering any right to regulate water supplies to WTO, mega projects like Interlinking of Rivers in South Asia, Three Gorges Dam, South-to-North Water Diversion in China and Initiative for Integration of Regional Infrastructure in South America because they uproot people, forests, wildlife, biodiversity and cause global warming. WaterWatch seeks accountability. It rejects carbon trade corporate social responsibility as fake solutions.
In 1955, India had more than 5,000 cubic meters of freshwater per person. By 2013, it is expected to fall below 1,700 cubic meters, to be deemed in "water stress" by 2025, it could fall below 1,000 cubic meters, for it to be considered in "water scarcity." WaterWatch is concerned about depleting water water quality and the consequent gene pool contamination. Fourth Assessment Report of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change states, "Glaciers in the Himalaya are receding faster than in any other part of the world and, if the present rate continues". It creates a compelling logic for mitigation measures through radical policy reversals. The tyranny of institutions and corporations has divorced policy making from reality. Our message is: manage water better and do not fiddle with nature. Contact: krishnagreen@gmail.com
