'Little Hollywood' movie at bookstore
ST. GEORGE - Join in for a celebration of local film history and culture at St.
George's independent bookstore, The Book Cellar. Return to Little Hollywood is a
locally produced, CEBA/DSC documentary about a small town that made it big.
This documentary chronicles Kanab's transformation from a quiet cattle town into
one of the entertainment industry's busiest production areas. This film features
footage of the locations where classic western movies were made and includes
interviews with several actors who worked in the area.
The documentary, narrated by veteran newsman Dick Nourse, is a co-production of
Dixie State College of Utah and Kane County's Center for Education, Business and
the Arts. The film is directed by local author, director and professor at Dixie
State College Stephen B. Armstrong.
On Friday June 26 at 6 p.m., Armstrong will show previews of his new documentary
"Return to Little Hollywood." Resident and western film historian Cheryl
Rogers-Barnett (Daughter of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans) will be here to talk
about the making of westerns, the old cowboys and share stories of growing up in
the midst of the western film era.
Cheryl, as well as her husband Larry Barnett, are a wealth of information
regarding the making of westerns, the western film era, the stars of the day and
she freely shares all of these fascinating stories, giving us a glimpse into the
days gone by. Join others at The Book Cellar, 37 E St George Blvd, Friday June
26 at 6 p.m. for this free community event, and support local film maker, the
arts and learn a little bit about our beautiful Southern Utah. For information
or to reserve a seat call The Book Cellar at 652-0227.
