Hello everyone!

I have posted a handful of pictures from yesterday afternoon at
Backus Mill - my 8 year old daughter had command of the camera and
captured a number of decent pictures. The album in the photo section
is "Backus II"

Also, I would like thank the fine gentlemen of the Incorporated
Militia of Upper Canada for the honour of marching with them on
Sunday afternoon. It is truly appreciated!

I have of late spoken with His Grace, the good General Tim of Pickles, and
have been inform-ed he has had a change of abode of late, and that land-line,
dedicated line, whatever-line you wish to give the girl, does not work as yet
because of said move and change in domicile.
Hence, perhaps, his absence from this discussion and any attempts to contact
him via such, or by email.
Have a little patience though, and I am sure he will see them off in the same
old way...don'tcha know.

Oh my!
Now you have me started!
One of my fondest reenacting memories (and yes, this says a lot about me) was
Waterloo 1995. We were in the middle of the pre-battle "death march" through
the local villages. As we were following mindlesslessly down some street in
the countryside, a halt was ordered (from who and where miles up ahead, we had
no idea.)
The lads of the Highland Brigade being a vocal sort, passed word up of their
concern regarding the state of their bladders.
Me, being a fair minded sort, always attune to the stream of humanity, gave
in a loud voice whilst pointing to an adjacent hedgerow, the order for the
relevance thereof of any needing to do so.
The column emptied from the street.
Including the good Commander of the 42nd of Britain, My good friend Glenn
Robinson.
(Me? I -- or at least back then -- can hold it like a Texaco tanker, so I
remained at my post at the head of my column. Also a good place for photos...).
Whistles and catcalls erupted form the "sassenach" units around us...due
primarily to the fact that period trousers with all those buttons on the
drop-front, are not as urinversally adapted to hedgerows as a 'Free-Willy" kilt.
My soldiers were relieved, I was regarded with esteem, and the parade
resumed.

And yes, (take note especially Peter Catley) I DO still have that photo of
Capt. Glenn Robinson, 42nd Foot, pisswa-ing on a Belgian hedgerow!

  ------------------------

I must add to the observations of the Commander of the 93rd SHRoFLHU.

Major B,

'95 was great, but I believe 1990 was Spectacular, especially when a large
Czechoslovakian
girl, handed Eric Shaw (a teetotaller) a bottle of Czech Rocket Fuel, made
him drink a mouthful,
then lifted him up onto a table, and commanded him to dance. AND! he did!!!
This all took place in a huge auditorium where all the re-enactors were
served a meal in the village
of Waterloo.

Larry,

Thank you for the nice words. Unfortunately, the media often
presents a picture that is only partially true. The relationship
between our counrties is one of the best and greatest in the world.
I have often heard many say that people outside of the New York
Metro area do not understand that day like we who live in this area
do. I think they are wrong.

And if I may, I would add thanks to the heros of that day the men
and women of the police, fire, transit etc. people who were there to
make a terrible day just a little better.

I would like to thank the contribution that our great friend up
north have given us battling and fighting around the world (since
1812!)

The price of freedom is a name engraved in a wall of some war
memorial.

Ed,

I remember it as my friend was welcoming USA planes into Toronto's
airport because the American airports were shut down.

Also our troops are in Afghanistan and as we only have the population
of New York we have no more to send to Iran. I know the news media
says we won't help, but as soon as we get the outboard motor started
on our one battle ship ......we shall be there! :^)

Thanks for you post

That may have been the same - or sister of -- girl what wanted to marry me
(no matter how visible me wife was). One of their soldiers, at her behalf,
asked me at one point if I "owned a farm". I found it amusing that the term
"actor" did not even translate into this fellow's translation vocabulary.

Hey Lar...
How did a group of rotund Bavarian men vying for the Darwin award get
promoted to Honeys? I was stuck right beside them...at two Waterloos and I
didn't see any Honeys.
We were taking bets, not on when they would have an accident but rather

Good Evening to All

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself (and my
daughter, Katie). I believe interest in the War of 1812 is
contagious. I have "caught" it from Katie. It started a couple of
summers ago, while vacationing in Fort Erie. We toured the Fort &
she picked up a book in the gift shop. It was Kyle Upton's Niagara's
Ghosts at Fort George. We spent our next summer's vacation in NOTL
visiting Fort George. The obsession has grown since. We have
returned to Fort George & Fort Erie on several occassions. We have
read many books on the subject, most concerning James
Fitzgibbon/Green Tigers/Bloody Boys. If any of you have younger
children, you might want to introduce them to a book by Eric Walters,
The Bully Boys. We are on are second copy.

We have been to several recreations, and are always bringing new
converts. There is an ever-growing group of teenage girls who have
also been converted. Some of them have hand-sewn their own "costumes".
Katie has taken up the fife & is now saving for a drum. Her bedroom
is in the process of an 1812 makeover. I'm sure this is more than
enough said....

I hope I haven't taken up too much of your time. We look forward to
reading more of your posts & hopefully meeting some of you at future
recreations.
