I have been reliably informed that Babu is actually the great uncle of Benno Ndulu and the shemeji wa shemeji wa shemeji wa ikulu. Since they wanted to remove the 500 shilling note from circulation because it is now meaningless or because it enables lower prices on a few things, they asked him to charge only 500 shillings. As you will notice these notes are becoming increasingly difficult to find. The next babu will charge 1000 shilings for the same reason, till we are left only with 5000 shilling notes and above and all prices will be calculated in multiples of 5000
