The White Water to Blue Water e-mail group is open to anyone with an interest in supporting the sustainable development goals of the White Water to Blue Water conference for the Wider Caribbean, held in Miami in March, 2004. WW2BW is based on a US Government initiative first presented at the the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2002.
The four themes of the White Water to Blue Water initiative for the Caribbean are to promote partnerships to support four main goals:
1) Integrated Watershed Management:
Partnerships to address activities impacting the watershed such as agriculture, forestry, land use and planning, tourism, and wastewater treatment.
2) Marine Ecosystem-Based Management:
Partnerships to ensure the long-term productivity and sustainability of the living resources and the environment of marine and coastal areas.
3) Sustainable Tourism:
Efforts to protect the marine environment through sustainable tourism.
4) Environmentally Sound Marine Transportation:
Reduction of operational and accidental impacts on the marine environment from boats and ships.
This network is open to individuals and representatives of any organization operating in the region. Postings may be in any official language of the Wider Caribbean (Spanish, English, French, Dutch) but the list is unable to provide translation services, so simplicity and clarity are essential.
Moderation of the list is contributed by Island Resources Foundation, at the request of the WW2BW Steering Committee, April, 2005. (Other e-mail groups owned and moderated by the Foundation can be seen at <http://www.irf.org/mailings.htm>)
