I know I know...95% of you hate this engine, the other 5% swear by it.
However, I've never actually seen one (except pictures on the net). I should likely pay attention more when people bring this engine up, but I always skip over the posts that don't apply to me, or something I don't know about. But with it coming up a bit more recently, I'm a bit curious about it.
1) What is the difference between the Round Head and Square Head?
2) Why all the different Horsepower numbers published/documente d...I read 18hp, 20hp, 25hp, 30hp, and even 40-50hp....whats up?
3) Why the funky auto points ignition with a battery mess? Why not a simple magneto ignition, even one so simply that it mimics the armature type found on modern lawnmowers?
Lastly, it looks like a very very compact 2-cycle engine, and full of simplicity. If there was a flaw, couldn't it be easily changed by some smart person today? Customized? Altered? Something to make it better so the engine would be useful again?
So bring on the fire. Time for some good opinions :)
a "home-made" engine, as if one of us wanted to build an engine at home in our machine shop, it would
look like the Chotia engine. Thumbs up to John for making an engine to fill a need at the time!!!!
But, technology has progressed the light weight UL engine a lot, and the Chotia engine is just a beautiful (my opinion)
museum piece.

I sold the B-model hopper I got from Coda (I still have a C-model). I'm keeping the prop that came with the B-model. The new buyer is now looking for a prop to use with the 277. Anyone have one laying around?
Respond on or off the group - I'll forward your info to the new buyer.

I don't remember, but it was a while ago. He still has a good sense of humor, but takes it one
day at a time.
I talked to him a couple days ago, he would loose track of the subject a little, but he has
strong will, he wants to do a CD because he just does not have the energy to print and assemble
more manuals.
I want to sell the CD's to help him out, I didn't make any $ selling his books, It all went to him, I think he deserves
it for all he has done for the weed community in the past.
I'll dig up the info and email you on your private email, Vince will
be happy!!
Cheers,
Scott

Hi all,
I just uploaded a new Weedhopper flying video. I got another 45 minutes of
flight
time Sunday afternoon, buzzing the local fields. There is no sound yet, so for
now,
you'll have to just sing along as you watch :)
Mike Schweim
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Rxdo9qFius
Just posted a new video to my Youtube channel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7aRqjNgebA
It's a fall flight tour of the area South and West of Mankato, MN, about 3 weeks
ago.
Didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped. I used my new Sony DVD-650 camcorder, and
didn't have it set up right for the flight.
Forgot to set the zoom for wide angle, the camera was pointed too far down, and
I
forgot to turn off the auto focus, so most of the video is focused on the
fuselage
brace tube instead of the scenery. Still gives an idea of what it was like at
the
time. Had a cross wind so landed diagonal to the field in order to land into
the
wind, resulting in a "bumpy" landing.
I missed out on the fall colors, due to rain when the colors were at, or near
their
peak. Many of the leaves had fallen by the time I got this flight.
