Description

WNY_Paddlers are canoe and kayak paddlers from Western New York. We're NOT a club, just an informal bunch of paddlers/outdoors people. This is our message board. We have no "official" paddles. We share information, trip reports, pick-up paddles, etc. We discuss where to paddle, paddling-related and outdoors info. Participation in any activities, events, or sports with others from this message board is always at your own risk.

WNY Paddlers share info about other outdoor events: hiking, snowshoeing, nature, etc. We encourage discussion on getting outdoors in ANY way, as we can't always paddle.

Paddlers keep in touch via this message board. This can be BUSY, with HEAVY email volume. Switch to Daily Digest or No Mail/Read on Web; Individual Emails may quickly fill up your inbox.

New applicants should provide name and phone # to list-owner when applying so I can verify you aren't a spammer!

Guidelines: Please act responsibly when paddling (or engaging in any outdoor activity). Always *WEAR* your appropriate Coast Guard approved PFD. (Note: NYS regulations state all people in nonpowered or powered watercraft MUST wear a PFD from November to March, not just carry it in the watercraft; subject to fines. You must carry a whistle or airhorn, and a 360 deg. white light for night paddling.) Don't put yourself or others at risk, ever. Dress appropriately for weather and water conditions, and always bring a drybag with a towel and extra clothes. Carry appropriate items: cell phone, emergency food, first aid kit, firestarters, etc. Use common sense safety rules when on the water. Be aware of both water & weather conditions. Dress for the WATER!

PADDLING/OUTDOOR SPORTS ARE INHERENTLY RISKY, AND NO ONE IN THE GROUP IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR SAFETY EXCEPT YOURSELF. PARTICIPATE AT YOUR OWN RISK. ONLY YOU CAN BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES, ACCIDENTS, OR LIABILITIES INCURRED BY YOURSELF OR OTHERS.
