I must have missed your first post, I'm definitely interested in taking the class, it would just depend on the day and time of it.

Allow me to clarify one item.
The Midas Venice F will be available to other classes for sign out. Most likely location recording and others that could use it's capabilities and who will be trained on it in class.

The speakers and amps will only be available to AUDI3300 students.

Thanks,
Lee

Hello!

One of the priorities of the St. Louis Professional AES section has been to streamline communication and encourage discussion about all things audio. We’ve combined a couple of confusing overlapping group lists, and now we’re happy to announce that the best way to ask questions and stay in touch with audio professionals and enthusiasts associated with the St. Louis region is through the aesstlouis yahoo group. This is a distinct list from the websteraudio list, which all Webster University audio students should monitor and use to stay informed about and participate in academic or facilities issues unique to the University’s program. Going forward, aesstlouis will be a great place to learn about upcoming local AES events, get professional opinions about audio topics, or post something you found interesting.

Remember, the websteraudio group is essential for Webster University audio students, but we also welcome students to join us on the wider aesstlouis list, as we do to all our professional AES activities. I would also like to invite everyone to visit the pro section website, http://aesstl.org/. The site is getting more comprehensive daily, and it’s only the beginning. There are audio blogs and forums, photos of our professional events (you are always welcome to join us for those too), links to sponsors, and even t-shirts for sale! Please join us as we live our mission statement: “To promote the growth, knowledge, and appreciation of audio in the St. Louis region.”

Thanks and have a great weekend!

So now that makes it,
Ben Lublin
Corey Killion
Kevin Hayden
Joe Layton
Stephen Oppenheim
Tom Jacobsmeyer

That would be interested so far.

That makes six unless I missed someone.
We will look at what days and times are available and see what we could work
out.

Anybody else, please let me know.

Thanks,

This should be well understood by now.  Juniors and especially Seniors somehow think this doesn't apply to them, but it does.  You are using several hundred-thousand dollars worth of gear.  You wouldn't allow this sort of behavior if it was your money invested in this gear.  How can you be so careless with other people's gear.  And how can you (in essence) spit in the dean's face after how hard she worked to get you this gear.  You have opportunities at Webster far beyond what you'd have on your own and far beyond many other schools.  Please be considerate.  No -- please be professional.

When you visit other facilities their rules might be different.  That's fine because it's their gear.  But that doesn't change *our* rules.

Hi,                                        November 21 2011

Just a reminder to mention to ALL of your students once more.

There is NO food or drink permitted in the studios at any time
by any one for any reason. This includes nights and weekends.
So no matter how good of their intentions, this could be a problem

I found a bottle of water on the SSL this morning from someone
using the board over the weekend.

It would not be good for water to get into that board and certainly
not before finals. We would not have enough time to get it back up
and operational in time to finish up the work they need to get done.

Please share this with anyone that should know this I do not have
on this mailing as well.

Thanks,

Bud Steward

Does anyone know of a decent hub that you have experience with that can support
firewire 800?

The reason I ask is that I can only find 400s and if I use more then one HDD on
I can no longer playback anything on any program. So, any suggestions on a hub
that can work with 4 drives and the UAD 2 Satellite?

Have you tried daisy chaining devices?  That's what Firewire is meant to do.

Firewire 800 hubs are

#1 extremely rare
#2 quite pricey  (about $200)

I meant to copy this into the other AES thanks for the reminder.

Yah I know you can daisy chain firewire but it randomly disconnects and doesn't support audio playback, 200 would be more then worth having them work without connecting and reconnecting every hour to back up and such...

So...Based on the list below it looks like 6 people may be interested.
It also appears that a time on Wednesday between 10:00a and 5:30p may work. No,
not straight through but we are checking on a 3 hour block in that time.

For the six students (and any others) who are interested how does that day and
possible time(s) look?

Also, for those enrolled in the Monday section, if we can open this section, a
few students could move it it worked better for your schedules. DO NOT COUNT ON
THIS YET!

I will let you know when we have found out if this can move forward.

I have a class on Wednesday nights at 5:30-9p. Hopefully that section will get  scheduled earlier in that time frame, but it seems like that should work out for me. Thanks!

Audio Students and Adjunct Faculty:
It is VITAL for you to attend.  The time is noon.  The place is the Sunnen Lounge.  Don't leave it up to others to pick the new Dean.

I know that is the time of the Student AES Chapter meeting.  Maybe Pete will allow us to meet there for at least part of the time.

Barry

News for Students of Webster University's School of Communications -- Nov. 28, 2011

Help Us Pick The Next SOC Dean
As you may know, Dean Debra Carpenter is stepping down from her job as dean in June to return to the SOC faculty. A search committee has been created to locate and screen candidates for the next dean of the School of Communications.
One of the first steps in this process is to get input from the school's various constituency groups. This input will be used to create a job description and provide guidance when candidates are screened and interviewed. Students like you are a very important part of the success of our school and we need your thoughts and suggestions about what qualities, attributes, and experience are preferred in the next dean of the school.

At noon, this Thursday, Dec. 1, in Sunnen Lounge we'll have an open forum for students to tell members of the search committee what they would like to see in the next dean. Please stop by and tell us what you think.

Members of the SOC Dean search committee come from all areas of the university.  Representing the School of Communications on the committee are: Joe Schuster, chair and professor, Communications & Journalism Department, School of Communications; Jorge Oliver, chair and associate professor, Electronic/Photographic Media Department, School of Communications; Gary Ford, associate professor and director of Graduate Studies, Communications & Journalism Department, School of Communications; and Patty Senft, an undergraduate student.

So...Based on the list below it looks like 6 people may be interested.
It also appears that a time on Wednesday between 10:00a and 5:30p may work. No, not straight through but we are checking on a 3 hour block in that time.

For the six students (and any others) who are interested how does that day and possible time(s) look?

Also, for those enrolled in the Monday section, if we can open this section, a few students could move it it worked better for your schedules. DO NOT COUNT ON THIS YET!

I will let you know when we have found out if this can move forward.

Thanks,
Lee Buckalew

Just a quick note about AUDI 3200, Audio Studio Maintenance,

The most recent class list shows that there are only 5 people signed up for the
Tuesday section (AUDI 3200.02).
I would very much like to see a few more people in this section. Keep in mind
that it is a required course and it is often advantageous to get your required
classes done as early as possible, leaving room for more elective classes in
later years.

Thanks,
Lee

Please note that the AES Class/Chapter will be meeting at NOON at the SUNNEN LOUNGE.  We will be meeting with Dr. Julian Schuster, Provost, about the search for a new Dean of the School of Communications.

This is YOUR CHANCE to voice your interests.  Tell the Provost the kind of person you want for the new Dean.  Think of the qualities you've enjoyed in the current Dean and think of other qualities you would like in the new one.

If you don't speak now you'll not get a chance later.

tomorrow evening. If anybody could hook me up with the following chips, I'll be
sure to get you the same chips next week after I've been to my house. Also, I
will love you forever. I need one of each of the following:

I have some TL074s, which I'll bring to Analog tonight. Can't help with
the others, but you can probably get them at Gateway Electronics.

My TL074s have been down in my basement since the 1980s, so the pins are
a little scruddy. I'll put some DeOxit on them before I bring them in.

Peace,
Paul

The M79 works correctly IF the speed switch is not changed.  Based on some testing yesterday, the deck may not work at 30 ips.  If the switch is changed, be sure to listen for the relay click telling you the speed has indeed changed and the switch is not in between speeds.

As of the beginning of this week we have officially opened AUDI 3300.02. It
will meet on Wednesdays from 12:00 Noon - 2:50 in SV101.

Please get signed up for the course if you have indicated an interest and are
able to meet on Wednesday (only 1 student was unable on Wednesday from our email
conversations).
We will also add a few who will move from Mondays section in order to make the
two sections a bit more even in numbers.

Thanks to all who wanted to take this class, I'm glad we were able to
accommodate the greater number of students.

I am looking for someone, who has been through AUDI 2000 successfully, to fill
about 14 hours a week as a Lab B Monitor in the Spring. The schedule is
SUNDAY: 6pm - 12midnight
THURSDAY: 4pm - 12midnight
You will be there to assist students as they come in and ask you to help. ALSO
at the end of both shifts, you will need to clean Studio B, MIDI, and Studio D.
This is part of the job now so if you're not willing then don't respond.

We are also interested in someone with a work study award to handle the
department website (including a revamp). If you have an award and some
experience with websites, please visit our site first, and then contact myself
or Barry to discuss further.

THANKS!
