There is still some of use that meet at Golden Corral at 5:45PM to eat vefore the meeting.  All are invited to attend this get together.

The JARS Hamfest will be held in Benson on Nov.15, 2009.  WARA will have 2 tables set aside in the building for the sale of equipment by members and WARA it self.  We have some items for sale from the estate of WB4THL and WA4TFU.  Any member of WARA is invited to use the tables for the sale of their equioment.

If you cannot make the hamfest but still wish to sell some equioment, contact me at hklino@... and let me know.  You will need to put a max and a min amount on a list of the equipment.  WARA will be keeping 10% of the price of. the item sold.  The equipment will need to be brought to Dutch, KU4VE, George W3GJD or myself at least 4 days before the hamfest.

If you plan on attending the hamfest and have items form sale, you will be required to  spend some time at the tables to help out.  Please let me know if you plan on attending.

I would like to thank George, W3GJD, for his time and effort spent at the JOTA  with me on Saturday, Oct. 17.  We could have used help from other members of WARA,  This was not a hard job to handle but help was needed.  There is a potential on new Amateur Radio members in the Boy Scouts.  They were attempting to get a Merit Badge for Communications and had to talk to 5 different stations.

I have uploaded pictures to our Yahoo Group for those that would like to view.

Last update.

I am on site. The IRLP node is up and working.

Please note, none of the scouts have indicated that there are camping by
the
road. SO you may not be able to see them on NC43. SInce there are still
troops to arrive, this may change between now and tomoor.

When you leave Rocky Mount on NC43 south go untill you see a traffic light.
The Ruritan Club is on your right (west side) three tenths of a mile before
the light. There is a white picket fence, come through the gate. We are
just beyond the woods line. You will see it.

I will be monitoring 145.290 and 441.750 (both pl107.2). The IRLP node
(#4866) is on 440.900 simplex pl 107.2.

Subject: Invitation to an Amateur Radio software webinar

My name is David Friedman, KE7GOY, and I am an AEC with the Snohomish
County, WA Chapter ARES. I am also with RACES, Skywarn, NOAA Weather
Spotter, Government Liaison/ESF-6 American Red Cross and MuttShack
Animal Rescue & Response Team. Though I have no economic interest in
Depiction, Inc., I would like to invite you to a webinar I will be
presenting about it and its many very valuable roles in Amateur Radio
operations.

Depiction mapping software includes tools for resource location,
volunteer tracking, credentialing, scenario prediction, repeater
location/coverage, NOAA weather, and APRS data integration. I have
used it during hurricanes Gustav and Ike, California wildfires,
Midwest floods and tornados, and in Washington state during several
winter disasters. I have detailed some of those experiences in a
review of the product that can be read in the November 2009 edition of
QST Magazine.

I will also be describing them in a webinar that I will be presenting
along with Depiction, Inc.'s Kim Buike next week, to which you and
your club members are invited. The webinar will be offered twice, on
Wednesday, October 21 at 1 PM EDT/10 AM PDT
<https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/940472729>
, and then on Saturday, October 24, at 12:30 PM EDT/8:30 AM PDT
<https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/446997793>
.

During each of these webinars, I will describe how to:

Geo-locate all physical assets and volunteers in “depictions” to
track deployment locations,
Integrate maps, elevation plots, weather data, “fly over”
imagery, situation reports and any critical proprietary data into a
single depiction display,
“Depict” antenna line-of-site footprints to help determine
geographic frequency allocation,
Use Depiction’s “Live reports” communication feature to
enhance awareness of volunteer movements, resource status, damage
assessments, etc. during a disaster,

I hope you are able to attend one of these webinars, and that you
pass this invitation on to any members of your club or on "Nets" that
may be interested.

Thanks for your time,

Howard -- Will be there Saturday, may not make it until a few minutes
after 0900.
The JOTA is still on here the following weekend, we will also be starting
about 0900.
Re the recent discussion of the Radio Merit Badge requirements, if you look
at the workbooks on the web site you'll see thast the coverage of the
requirements is pretty superficial. The boys fill out the workbooks as we
go through the material with the Powerpoint slides. We have done it three
times in the past few years and found that the material can be covered in
two sessions of an hour to an hour and a half or one session of 2 to 3 hours
(with a short break or two).
See you Saturday. -- 73 -- Les, W4FRA
