& services update
Dear All
Further to my email last week, I write now with some updated information
on:
i) the church building
ii) The proposal for the Sunday services for the next few weeks.
The Church Building
We still await the written report from the surveyor but it is clear from
his visit that the ceiling is sufficiently unstable to warrant the closure of
the main building for all public use.
The standing committee of the PCC have studied a very full and detailed
summary of reports from three companies who were invited to pitch for the stone
work cleaning which forms part of our internal re ordering project. The
committee has unanimously decided in favour of one of them and we will appoint
them forthwith to the task of erecting a scaffold rig which will act both as an
emergency 'crash deck' as well providing access to the ceiling for
repairs. The company will set up the rig in such a way as to carry out the
stone cleaning as part of the proposed internal re ordering in due
course.
In practice this means that the main church building will remain closed
until the erection of the scaffold is complete and 'crash deck' in place. It is
estimated that this work will take approximately four weeks. After this the main
building will be operational once more, although we won't have full use of the
side aisles and the central space of the nave will be restricted.
Sunday services
Thank you for your patience while we have sought to clarify plans and
make alternative arrangements.
9:00amwill
take place in the chapel with access via the 'chapel door' (facing the Apollo)
at the east end of the church. Follow the signs.
10:30 am. We
have secured the use of St Paul's Primary School hall for this service. We are
very grateful to Tessa Hodgson and her staff for this.
Please note the following arrangements
carefully:
Thecrèche (apart from the tadpoles
0-crawling) andchildren's teamwill
be in place in the usual venues atSt Paul's churchby10:30am.Those attending this service with children are asked
to drop their children off at the church, gaining access via the iron gates
nearest the Apollo, at the west end of the church, by the portacabins.
The service will start at10:40am promptin the main school hall. There will be members of the
welcome team on hand to direct you. Access to the school is via the main school
entrance on Worlidge Street.
The service will aim to finish at 11:20 so that the children can be
collected from their groups promptly at 11:30. For obvious safety reasons, the
children's team have been instructed not to let any child leave their group
until an adult comes to collect them (parents of crèche age children will need
their 'kiddie card').
Parents of babies in'tadpoles' (0 - crawling)will have access to a room adjoining the main hall in
the school itself. Please go direct to the school with your child and you will
be directed to the appropriate facilities.
Communication
during the service between the children's groups at SPH and parents at the
school will be maintained by group leaders viatext
message.
6:00pm
We have managed to secure St John's Church, Glenthorne Road, for the
next few weeks and I wish to record our gratitude to the wardens at St John's.
Of all the options we explored, St John's comes out as big enough (just), near
enough and available throughout our period of need.
The service will startpromptly
at 6:00pm. Please see the attached map for
details on finding St John's
This Sunday (20 June) I am delighted to announce that Amy Orr-Ewing will
be coming to speak. Amy's husband is vicar of a church in Peckham, ministering
in a richly diverse cultural setting. Amy herself works for the Ravi Zacharias
Trust which seeks to resource Christian apologetics and uphold Christian truth
in western culture today. She is an excellent communicator - not to be missed.
I am conscious that many of us find adapting to change difficult. Hang
in there! It was to a people under pressure that the writer to the Hebrews
urged his brothers and sisters in Christ to 'consider how they might stir one
another up to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together...but
encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching'
(9:24-5).
Please spread the word concerning the above information. We shall
continue to update the web site with fresh information. Please be mindful of
any who do not have access to email or the web site.
Finally, as Paul exhorts: Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all
prayer an supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making
supplication for all the saints (Eph 6:18-19).

Subject: St Paul's Sunday Services change...
<<Map-to-St-Johns.jpg>> Dear all,
Due to unforeseen circumstances this Sunday's (13th June) services will not
be held in the main church building. A small section of ceiling above the
nave collapsed during the week and as a precaution we have decided that we
must close the main church building until the problem has been investigated
further and the necessary protection installed. We are so grateful that no
one was in the nave at the time and that no one was injured. It is hoped
that, once the necessary protection is installed and properly checked, we
will re - open for our usual Sunday service programme on Sunday the 20th
June.
The plans for services this Sunday are as follows:
9am Holy Communion Will be held in the Chapel - please follow the
signs
10:30am Service Cancelled
6pm Will be held at St John's Glenthorne
Road - see map attached.
This email is being sent to everyone on the church database who's email we
have. Do please pass this message on and especially if you are aware of any
who do not have immediate access to email.
For obvious reasons we would be grateful if you could hold off
emailing/calling us whilst we manage the problem. We intend to keep the
website right up to date with information on this. Please consult the site
for the latest news next week.
Other events:
The Bridge
Alternative arrangements have been made for the Bridge tonight. Those
concerned will receive a separate communication.
12 Hours of Prayer
The 12 hours of prayer (7 to 7), culminating in the central Kiss the Street
gathering, planned for Tues June 15th, has been postponed until the
following Tuesday, 22 June.
Soul in the City
As I write we are unable to make a firm decision on the Soul in the City
gathering planned for Friday June 18th. It is hoped that we might, by then,
be able to host it at St Paul's as planned.
There are various discussions and meetings that will be taking place today.
Please be assured that, whatever decisions we take, we hold the safety of
every single person who sets foot inside the church building as of paramount
importance.
Please also note that all events which use the 'back rooms' and do not
involve the main church building can carry on as before.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. We value your prayers at this
time
Many thanks & Best wishes

Some of you know that I am heading out to a place called Rainbow Farm in Brazil for two/three weeks this summer with a team of 13 from St Pauls, Hammersmith to help develop the farm ready for its longer term goals of providing a home/retreat for orphaned children and other children in need. Everyone is welcome so please pass the word round and bring your other halves and friends. If you want tickets I can send them out to you and I will also have some with me at church on most Sundays or at the central home group meetings on Tuesdays.

Henry IV Part I By William Shakespeare Directed by Alan Strachan
"Young Prince Hal is leading a dissolute life, hanging around bars with his notorious friend Falstaff and other disreputable characters.Meanwhile King Henry IV, who has usurped the throne, is facing growing opposition, which becomes open rebellion led by the courageous young Hotspur.
Prince Hal casts off his wanton ways and joins his father's side as the King meets the rebellion in a dramatic battle."

Hi everyone.
Just thought it was time we all had a little get together again.
Date: Friday 21st May
Time: 8.30pm
Location: Duke of Cornwall. (A new pub 1 min walk down the Fulham
Palace Road from the Church on the right)
A change of venue maybe in order if the weather is good!
Please ask all your friends to come along as it would be great to
get as many of us out for the evening!
See you there
Jason
Ever since the stunning performance of the von Aldrich's at the house party in Ashburnham this year I have been absolutely determined to organise an outing to Sing-A-Long to the whole film of The Sound of Music. The Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square runs a special night with introduction, warm up singing, prices for best costumes etc on every last Saturday of the month at 7.30pm. I want to go to the performance on 26th June. If we get 10 or more people together for this, we will get a 10% discount on the tickets (£13.50 otherwise).
Please let me know by the beginning of next week whether you want to join me so I can buy tickets. There are plenty of tickets at the moment but they usually sell out.
Subject: [social-net] jazzbomb supporters shake the venue
What a turn out! I'm just writing to say a huge thank you to all who came along on Friday. We made a little bit of history- we gave Montunos the biggest (and loudest!)crowd they'd had- we even managed to get the tickets on the door down to half price!
Special mention must go out to the ball room dancing finesse of Paul Harvey and Sylvia Penar and of course Donald Chapin and Margaret Mcveigh; the full 1920s regalia of Sylvia 'the moll' Kalisch; the loud vocal support of Rich Storey and the sheer style of all my Hephzibah friends.
Thanks for your support and your part in creating a full on joyful party vibe.

For those planning to go to the JazzBomb event, entrance is free before 8:30pm and £10 after.
Aiming to arrive at the club ("Montunos") for 8pm, a few of us are meeting 6:50-7:20pm in pub in the Hammersmith broadway (which annoyingly I can't remember the name, but the one nearest Tesco) - leaving at there 7:20pm.
Do join us there for pre-club drinks donned in your 1920's attire - spats, trilbies and boas are a go!

Apologies to those of you who have had at least one email from me on the

sessions in Bishops Park? A few of us, mainly from St Pauls, meet on a
Thursday evening to play, and if there are any other keen players out there
who'd like to join us that would be great. It might occasionally be a
Wednesday evening.

> Dear All,

I am sure you are all aware that the first SPEAR course finished just before
Easter, with 5 students completing the course, and moving onto a variety of
work placements. The next course starts on May 24th, and we are intending to
recruit our students for the course over the previous few days. One way in
which we would like to do this is to spend some time knocking on doors round
the local housing estates on Saturday May 15th, and I am writing to ask if
you might be able to pledge a couple of hours from 10 til 12 to help do
this.
Earlier this year we recruited one of our students on the first course in
this way. We had quite a lot of fun and some entertaining conversations
along the way, and we helped put the word out both about SPEAR and St Paul's
within the community. Your help with this will be valuable and much
appreciated by all those involved in the project!

Hi all,
For anyone who fancies showing off their MOVES, I am going dancing with a
couple of friends on Saturday night, please come along if you fancy it. The
plan is drinks at the M Bar by Putney bridge from around 8.30pm, then on
to the Fex Club on Upper Richmond Road around 10pm. It's a quite kitsch
Moroccan club but it has a dancefloor with squares that light up! I'm on

Hasta luego!

Sam Chaplin and the Jazzbomb will detonate the evening with their sassy big band sounds and Latin explosion! This is a night for cigars and style as they re-create that Rat Pack vibe with the feel-good melodies of Sinatra, Harry Connick Junior and Andy Williams.
Having recently graduated from the Royal Academy of Music, members of Jazzbomb are some of the best musicians of their generation. They are already playing at venues such as Ronnie Scott's and The Jazz Café, as well as with the world's finest musicians including Wynton Marsalis, Julian Joseph and Cleo Lane.

In light of our forthcoming marriage on 8th May, Madi and I are looking for a 1 or 2 bed flat to rent in the West London area (Hammersmith/Fulham/Chiswick/Barnes...), to move the first weekend of May - we're looking at £250/wk and a large bedroom to fit our Super-King sized bed!
We'd love to hear from you if you know of anything available.
With love and thanks,
James & Madi

I've got a bundle of the flyers from Church titled "The Passion of Jesus Christ, its meaning for today"... and am planning to give them out to people leaving the cinema this week hoping they'll reach fertile ground!
I'm planning to go down to catch those leaving the first showing, and those going to the second - and possibly for pizza afterwards ;)
My friend Stuart is a Christian Film Producer and he has a special screening at St. Paul's in Onslow Square this evening. Probably about 30 mins.
The story is about a young Christian boy in secondary school.
Just arrive before 6.30. I think it's free...
God bless
Jacqui
