Thank you everyone who
prepared and returned a hamper in time for us to deliver to Bishop Creighton
House today. They were really thrilled, so grateful and promise to take
some photos of their party tomorrow for us. If you are still planning to
do a hamper and hadn’t quite got it to church by last Sunday would you let me know as I would like to
arrange another delivery for them and to a few specific people we were hoping
to bless… (due to the carol services I need to know and ideally have them
in the building before Sunday as we will be unable to take them at the evening carol
service.)
Many thanks.

God Is Here Launch this
Sunday 6th Dec
Don't miss out on this sunday's services (6th Dec) when we will be
celebrating the launch of nickandbeckydrake's new all age worship CD 'God Is
Here'. Following on from the success of Big Family Of God, this CD is aimed at
bridging the gap between 'adult' and 'kids' worship - songs that everyone can
worship to. If you're looking for something fresh for yourself or some presents
for Christmas then do come along as the CD is being exclusively availble for
just St Paul's
members this Christmas (released for the rest of the country not until February
2010!). The CD features St Paul's own kids,
worship team singers, as well as our very own Jennie Ellis, Anna Popplewell,
Simon Downham and more in exclusive video content on the bonus CD ROM. It also
comes with backing tracks for use in schools (and your living room) and full
sheet music.
Due to high demand for online
ticketing options we now have a way of purchasing tickets for 10,
the church’s 10th Birthday using PayPal.
The party is on 16th
January 2010 at 7.30pm and it’s going to be the party of the year
with food, drinks, entertainment, dancing and much, much more. We do have
a maximum capacity level so unfortunately it is not a party for the
children… they will get their turn the next day. We hope that
everyone who considers themselves as members of St Paul’s will join in the fun.
You can access the tickets by putting the following
address in your web browser: tinyurl.com/sph10
Tickets will still be available at the back of church
most Sundays.
Love,
Perry

Organised with St Paul's Theological Centre/St Millitus College, do come to a very important day conference
Back to Basics or Business as Usual?
Responsible Lending, Responsible Borrowing and the Christian Response to the Great Recession
9.30 – 3.30, Saturday 12th December
St Paul's Onslow Square London SW7 3NX
Key questions the day will address · What is a theological vision of the place of debt, lending and borrowing in social and political life? · What might be practical proposals that reflect and adhere to such a vision within the contemporary context?
Speakers include: · Prof John Milbank, Nottingham University · Andrew Dilnot, Principal, St Hugh's College, Oxford · Paul Marshall, Marshall Wace hedge fund/Centre Forum · Dr Maurice Glasman, London Citizens/Faith & Citizenship Programme · Piers Le Marchant, General Counsel, Nomura International · Phillip Blond, ResPublica Booking etc · To book your place either call 020 7780 1600 or email: justcommunities@... It is important to book beforehand. · Cost: A suggested contribution of £5 for the day is requested but not required. This is payable on the door. · Lunch: Please make arrangements to provide for your own lunch (there are many places to buy sandwiches around the venue) · Getting there: St Paul's Onslow Square is located near South Kensington tube (District/Piccadilly). Bus routes: 211 or buses to South Kensington.
Organisers The event is jointly organised by the Faith & Public Policy Forum, King's College London; St Paul's Theological Centre/St Mellitus College; and the Centre for Contextual Theology (CTC). King's, St Mellitus and CTC have an established relationship and are already working together in a variety of ways to resource and equip the church in London in its mission and ministry through theological education. This event is designed to initiate a conversation about the way beyond the economic crises, one framed by theological considerations rather than economic ones, and build relationship between bankers, theological educators, church leaders and policy makers within a church rather than a political setting.
Background
The recession and the precariousnature of our current economic life are provoking a widespread review of ourattitude to the power of money in our lives and in the lives of ourcommunities. At the same time, churches, along with other groups from a wide variety of different perspectives, areproposing ways forward beyond a consumer driven, debt dependent economic andsocial life. Some call intoquestion the system as a whole, for example radical environmental,anti-capitalist and Islamic groups; some propose parallel systems that providealternatives to the dominance of the financial services industry; some seek tore-establish business as usual and a return to consumer driven, indebtedlifestyles; but what is a Christian vision of the way forward? How should Christians respondpersonally, pastorally and politically to the economic crisis? What concrete proposals for actionshould Christians initiate, develop or support?
The Faith & Public PolicyForum (King's College London), St Mellitus College and the Centre forContextual Theology are jointly hosting a study day to reflect theologically onthe current economic crisis and ways the church might respond in practice.Amidst the competing visions for thefuture, it is vital to develop a theological account of ways forward. It is particularly important forchurches in London. For the churchin London is uniquely placed to respond given that London is not only the mostethnically and religiously diverse city in the world, a major centre ofcultural and artistic production, but also a crucial node in the globalfinancial services industry.Inaddition, it has the only public authority – the Corporation of London – thatis specifically focused on lobbying for and representing the interests of thatindustry both in the UK and globally. In short, the world is in London and London is in the world.Christians in London are immersed inevery aspect of this city from the street to the boardroom and haverelationships with every level, from the homeless person to the business titan. There is therefore a particular responsibility and opportunity for churches todevelop a vision and concrete forms of action and policy proposals for the wayahead, proposals grounded in the realities of the world as it is but alsofaithful to the revelation of the world as it should be given in JesusChrist. With the economy in flux,a general election fast approaching, and manifestoes being written, the door iswide open for new ideas. In a timesuch as this and amidst the resounding silence of our political leaders toarticulate alternative visions of the future, Rabbi Hillel's questions come tous with acute force: if not now, then when? If not us, then who?
Next saturday (5th) will see thousands of people converge in London ahead of the main international talks on climate change in Copenhagen.
What: Come along to a church service and the march to Westminster to stand up for climate justice
When: Saturday 5th December - 11am church service (arrive for 10.30am) at Methodist Central Hall and then join the march afterwards. Tearfund will then be providing tea and cakes afterwards to allow you to relax and revive!
Why: Because we need to show the rich governments of this world that they need to tackle climate change urgently and call for a strong and fair climate deal that protects poor people.
What to wear or carry: something blue!
Tearfund, along with many other Christian organisations are part of Stop Climate Chaos - who are organising this friendly and peaceful day.
A friend of mine has a 17inch men's mountain bike that's looking for a new home.
It's a medium (evan's says suitable for 5'6 - 5'10...) Raleigh MAX Ogre (sounds ominous!) It's blue, brand new tyres, serviced about a year ago and not ridden since, probably a decent run around...
He would preferably like some offer of cash (the local bike shop said it would be worth about £80 with some tweeking...)...but will be ok if you just need a bike and can't pay....what a guy hey! Comes with lock and helmet.
Give me a call - 07949110910....and i'll get you in touch
We are leaving London
and need to rid ourselves of a double bed. It's metal framed with a decent:
medium firm mattress. We're giving it away because although it's fine, the
centre foot of the bed is missing. The bed is still very secure and extremely
comfortable.
Free to whoever can collect from a 4th floor flat (which has a lift) in W4.

Dear W6
'm
desperately looking for someone who is able
to make curtains and who would be willing to donate the time to make
a pair of curtains for a new member of our congregation. She has joined us
through a Besom project that a group from St Paul's did for her. As the
weather gets colder and she is unable to afford the heating on
through the night she is in real need of some winter curtains in her
front room to help her keep out some of the cold. Large
curtains the size that she needs are around £300 and above so I'm hoping to try
the cheaper option of having someone we know to make them. If
you think you could donate the time to make the curtains (we are trying to
raise the funds for the material) then please do contact me on 07746705547.
We
are busy getting the preparations ready for the St Paul’s tenth birthday
celebrations on January 16th. As part of this we are looking
for 30 willing people
to cook a lasagna big enough for 15
people and 30 people to
make delicious saladsbig
enough for 15 people. We will provide the recipe for the lasagna as well
as trays for your prepared food to be cooked and transported to church.
If
you think you’d like to put your cooking skills to the test please email ruth.claydon@...
More
will be revealed about the celebrations soon so watch this space…..

Male Singers Required... My colleague is looking for male singers for a charity Christmas concert and I wondered if you knew anyone that would be interested?
------------------------------------------------------------------------ We’re currently working on behalf of a charity called Plan. They’re an international organization that works and supports children in developing countries in order to provide them with a better quality of life through education,
health-care, basic living standards, etc. For more info, please visit: www.plan-uk.org.
To raise awareness for Plan and the fantastic work they do as well as encourage people to sponsor one of their children (girls in particular with this project), we are organizing a Christmas carol concert for December 9th. Location: on stage by Trafalgar Square Christmas tree Numbers: we’re ideally looking for approx. 30 singers and up to five celebrities Carols: traditional although they can’t be religious due to Plan not being able to show any religious bias
As our concert is trying to drive awareness for young girls in developing countries (as they have no or few rights, freedom and therefore a voice), we are asking that the women involved don’t sing – instead they just need to stand there with their hands over their mouths to get this shocking message across.
However, we need as many males singing the carols as possible! Please RSVP to clarehe@...

With the political situation hotting up again in Zimbabwe
(the MDC disengaged with the Unity Government about 2 weeks ago) I wonder if
its time to get praying again. If you would like to, please join me on Sunday22nd
November at 4.30pm in the Lower Chapel to pray for an hour or so before
the evening service starts.
If you are unable to come to that meeting but would like to
pray here are some helpful prayer points from Tearfund please
pray:
1. For the regional summit tomorrow
in Mozambique which is set
to discuss the crisis in Zimbabwe.
Pray for wisdom for the region’s leaders for them to be able to mediate
and come to a solution in order to stabilise the volatile situation in Zimbabwe.
2. For peace in the country and
that there will be no further violence or intimidation.
3. For Christians in Zimbabwe and around the world to continue to
pray and not grow tired of praying for Zimbabwe.
See you on 22nd Nov at 4.30pm
if not before.

Our lifegroup's plans for a weekend away on the 6,7,8 November have been deal a blow by the venue option having fallen through.
We are wondering whether
A, - Somebody might know of a large Self Catered house that is available and can accommodate 11.
B, - In the season of stay-cations, whether there might be some generous family, perhaps away for the weekend who could give us the use of a large London House for daytime of Saturday and Sunday.
The City Prayer breakfast is an annual event at which Christians based in the City of London gather to pray for the City. This year it is hosted by St Helen's in Bishopsgate.
The CPB is organised by a steering committee comprising : Rev'd Jeremy Crossley (St. Margaret's, Lothbury), Robert Hughes-Penney (Common Councilman), James Featherby (City Bands), Ceinwen Rees (Faith in Finance), Rev'd Mark O'Donoghue (St. Helen's, Bishopsgate), and Rev'd Dr. Rodney Woods (City Temple, Holborn).
In addition to being an opportunity to pray for the City, it maybe a good opportunity to connect with Christians in your place of work.
If anyone in planning to go and would like to meet outside St Helen's at 7.30, that would be really encouraging.
City Prayer Breakfast “The City - a shared responsibility”
Our guest speaker this year is Andy Brookes. For the past five years, Andy has helped lead the change programme to improve business practice in the London wholesale insurance market, working with both Lloyd’s and Aon.
Having graduated (and post-graduated) in economics, Andy spent the first decade of his career as an economist with the CBI, the Bank of England and in consultancy. He then worked on the development and implementation of CREST, the settlement system for equities and government debt. After this he ran IT and then UK wholesale payment systems at the Bank of England. In between he was responsible for monetary policy implementation at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.
Having become a Christian as a teenager, he is currently an active member of an Anglican church in Muswell Hill.He is also involved in a variety of work-based ministries, particularly the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity.
Andy lives in north London and has been married to Caroline for 23 years. They have four teenage children.
Space is limited, so we encourage you to book in now.Bookings must be madeonline at www.cityprayerbreakfast.com We also invite you to forward this message to a friend.

This
Sunday night is ‘After 8’ which means that we have drinks and
snacks after the evening service. A great opportunity to bring along your
friends… and a little bit of spare ‘pub’ cash… and
possibly those who might like to help we could do with a couple of extra hands
with the set up and clear up.
See
you there.
Love,
Perry

On Tuesday 3 November at 6.30pm, the world premiere of Mr Darwin’s Tree is being performed in Westminster Abbey. The play, written by award winning screen writer Murray Watts and starring Andrew Harrison, has been commissioned by Theos as part of its Rescuing Darwin project. The play explores Darwin’s life, and his questions about himself, science, suffering and God. You’re welcome to stay for a glass of wine in poets’ corner afterwards. If you would like to attend, please contact Jennie.Pollock@....
Do join us if you can (and aren't at life group!).
Best wishes,

I am on the look out for a ladies bicycle to get me from A to B, and help to reduce my carbon foot print! Preferably an old fashioned style (basket a bonus) and a size to fit me at 5ft 8. Unfortunately. I can only offer a small amount in return, but be assured your old bicycle would be loved once again!
So, if any of you have a lonely sad unloved bike desperate to be taken out again and ridden by a very grateful Lucy Locket I would love your help, or if you know anyone who can help, please contact me on 07811 437730 / lucydavenport86@...

Don’t quite know what to do with yourself on Saturday
31st October? Don’t want to stay in and put up with endless
knocks at your door from trick or treaters? Wish there was a party you could
attend that celebrated light instead of darkness?? Well…look no further!
On Saturday 31st October St Paul’s are providing not one, but
two parties to celebrate Jesus and the light he brings in to the world for our
children and our youth and we would love you to come along and help out if you
are able.
The first is the Bright
Party which will run from 4:30
– 6:30 in the main church and is for 5 – 11 year olds.
There will be music, dancing, games, activities, crafts, neon lights, glow
sticks, food and a competition to find the most brightly dressed person.
The second is Light Nite
which will run from 7.00 – 9.00
in the St Paul’s
centre and is for 11 – 14 years olds. This will include X-Box,
milkshakes, singstar, food and music.
Neither of these events would be able to run without the help
of our amazing volunteers. If you would like to help out in any way and help to
show the young people and children at St
Paul’s that there is something worth celebrating
then please let us know. To volunteer for the Birght Party please contact Anna
on anna.popplewell@..., and
for Light Nite contact Lydia
on Lydia.corbett@....
Many thanks!
With love,
Anna

Come and listen to Ealing Symphony Orchestra on Saturday
10th October at St Barnabas Church, Pitshanger
Lane, W5 1QG.
We're playing Prokofiev (Lieutenant Kije), Rachmaninov (Rhapsody on a
theme of Paganini) and Malcolm Arnold's Symphony no 4.
Kick off is 7:30pm, tickets are £10 (£8 concessions, £1 for
under 16s) - cash or cheque - there's no chip and pin!
I'll be hiding at the back of the orchestra in the French
horn section.
I'm planning to go and see 'Mugabe and the White African' on Fri Oct 23 in Brixton. Do you want to come too? We need to book tickets fast.
It's a documentary about a white Christian farmer and his family (friends of a member of the St Paul's congregation) who are determined to stay in Zimbabwe despite the most appalling beatings and arson attacks from Mugabe's thugs.
As part of the London Film Festival, it's on at the Ritzy in Brixton at 6.30pm on Friday Oct 23. We could go for food or a drink afterwards.

Guys,
Charlie Mackesy, Moly and I are organising Beer and Hymns at the White Horse on Oct 5th and would love you to come along a bring a friend. The general idea is that lots of the men at the church enjoy signing the hymns they sang at school (and at rubgy) and also enjoy a beer, so we thought it would be smart to combine the two. We would then follow up with a bit of volunteering once a month for a few hours (for those who can spare the time) doing besom type projects.
We're particularly hoping it will also appeal to our non-Christian male friends, the group you could summarise as 'happy moral secular' who have no interest in coming to Church or Alpha, but like singing hymns, and also like the idea of a bit of volunteering. Many of my non-christian friends have expressed an interest in helping with the homeless or helping to decorate a run down home for someone in need and this seems to be an easy way of getting them interested. The link between Beer and Hymns and volunteering is simply that we'll offer the men the chance to get involved in the volunteering whilst at the Beer and Hymns and hopefully get a few groups of christian/non-christian guys up for doing projects together.
Since Besom is currently reorganising the way they operate, we'll probably work with HTB's Social Transfromation team (Kat Osborn) or through West London churches for homeless related projects.
If you can bring a mate, or volunteer yourselves then great, and if not don't worry, we'd love to see you on Oct 5th anyway.
