Greetings to all my friends.

As many of you are aware the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.'s Board of Directors has now started the process for creating what is commonly called "The Fourth Peerage".
Whereas, for years many different groups, whether it is archery, thrown weapons, siege, combat archery, rapier and others that do not fit the standard mold to be added to either the Laureate, the Pelican or the Chivalry and had outstanding members - in many cases, were ignored. It was simply that some activities were square pegs in what they considered a round world. We did not fit.

As you are all aware of the census that was done in 2010/2011 attempted to capture every member of the SCA and all the special interest groups.
In some cases, many people just blew it off in my humble opinion as they had grown tired of rhetoric that extended back decades.
It is also my opinion that in doing so they have hurt all of us as they start setting up The Fourth Peerage, the numbers will be skewed, and the will of the different groups will not be heard and only one group will end up on top.

At this time I want to make sure you understand that I have no ax to grind with any group, those that know me best,
understand I like a level playing field. I am also not so stupid to understand that a perfect world does not exist . But I will continue to help to level the field.

At this time, they have started to set up the procedures for The Fourth Peerage.

They welcome comments, suggestions, etc. etc. but will not put up with abuse.
They are working for the people, with the information, real suggestions, that all groups provide. I have been told it is not too late to make changes to truly make it a peerage for all groups.

While I wore another hat, I did not feel I could write this letter and not make it sound like I was tainting the water.
Those days are over, I am still a siege engineer at a combat archer - and yes, a heavy fighter, but the chances of becoming a member of the Chivalry because I do combat archery and siege are just about as good as me becoming King.

But I would like a legacy of seeing those that are behind me having a chance of becoming a Peer for their skill, peer qualities, and more.
For years, I have seen and heard my brothers and sisters of the bow and of the siege say "They wish there was a way to be recognized."

My brothers - IT IS NOW TIME - I ask you, I beg you, look to the future of the SCA, you wish the program to grow.

Whether it is combat archery, siege, thrown weapons, rapier, etc. This peerage Is not about just one group, unless YOUR and I did say YOUR voice is heard, what we have wished for over decades, maybe lost.

Take the five minutes, or 10, or 15, and send your feelings to the Society Seneschal Countess Kenna Harve (OP). She has been a heavy fighter and has led personally an army into battle. She knows many of you as she has been in charge of the entire water bearing situation both at Pennsic and assisted at Gulf Wars. But if she has no information from other groups, the group that has supplies the most probably will form The Fourth Peerage.

Please, please, please take the time to make your feelings known.
Don't waste time - do it now, tell others you know, it affects the Known World.
It is THAT important!!

Please show her courtesy and respect in your writings and remember, what you write can change the SCA, maybe not for you, but for a generation coming up behind us.

It went well! Everyone was pleased with the turnout and had a good time. Next time we'll figure better for food portions so we don't have a lot of food left over. We had 37 sit for feast, 43 for site. We are very pleased that we made a profit.

Next Event

We're looking into possibly holding Danse Macabre. Lady Kathryn is contacting members of Windhaven, Mistig and beyond to inquire. Would serve a "peasant feast". It would be held the last Saturday of October, the 27th. We will ask local hotels for reduced rates or free rooms to help out anyone traveling from a distance. Township hall for the venue, Marcial will inquire about availability and cost.

Float

The hay wagon will be delivered this coming week and will be housed at Kathryn's moms property. We have access to the garage for construction. A design has already been made and construction will start in the next couple of weeks. Those interested in helping, please contact Lady Kathryn or Lord Marcial.

Thoughts from the peanut gallery:

Planning for feast is often quite difficult, more or less. I know I cooked on an assumption that there would be 50 people. It's often better to send people home full (while still turning a profit) then it is to charge $10 and have people walk away thinking "That wasn't much food. I'm still hungry. McD's anyone?"

Encouragement to pre-reg for feast is always good. Capping the feast at a set number isn't bad either. If you can set a trend that someone's feast will ALWAYS be AWESOME, you can usually count on having a 30-50 person feast fill up, assuming enough site attendees.

Long story short, if everyone turned a profit on feast, then you did just fine. :) Many feasts represent a break-even or even a loss point for many groups.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I am going to now shamelessly plug the Shire of Skerjastrond's final Woodland
Romp, June 22nd through 24th.

We will have Rapier and Heavy combat, several classes, and a wonderful Feast
prepared by Lady Johanna Swynford.

The camping fee is included in the price, but electricity and water hook-up is
not. The site is damp and we will be dancing and singing as much as we can
following Feast. So if you have music to share, please bring it with you!

The site is on the Escanaba River and it gets very shallow before it leaves the
campground. There is no lifeguard but I have seen plenty people swim in it!
Including myself!

I look forward to following the group on here, and to seeing folks from
Hvitskogar in about two weeks!

Danse Macabre

It is set for October 27th. The Ironwood Township Fire hall is reserved for us. Will see about Jeremy or Rhonda signing for rental. Fees are $150 refundable deposit, $50 rental fee. Marcial will retrieve funds from Darkstone for deposit etc closer to event date.

Kathryn was officially named autocrat for event.

Details: Site opens 10am, closes 10pm. Site fee is $5, NMS will apply. Family cap set at $15 for 2 adults and up to 3 children over 5yrs. NMS will apply for non members of the family.

Dyonisia and Vara are feastocrats. Feast budget was set at $250. Feast is going to be a potluck peasant feast. Our village will provide 1 or 2 main dishes, bread, beverages and dessert. We are going to ask attendants to bring a dish to pass along to round out the feast and ad to the authenticity of it being a peasants feast.

Feasts fees will be-$8 w/o dish to pass, $4 w/ dish. Off board seating will be provided. Children 5 and under eat free.

We will provide a basic sandwich lunch with chips and beverages. Fee to be determined.

Setup-we will get key Friday the 26th for setup. We will inquire about candle usage. Kathryn will contact Karen about her teaching Morris dancing.

Purchases-Marcial was given permission to buy items for the event. We are looking at purchasing mask making supplies, supplies to create wall sconces, and whacking sticks for Morris dancing.

Ironwood Dance Company

We are going to post up a flyer at the IDC as this event would be of interest to those that attend classes there. Marcial will design the flyer.

Danse Macabre

No conflicts, it's on the Northshield calendar. We have confirmed teachers, and possible teachers yet to be confirmed. We will have 2 mask making sessions/classes. Will order supplies, and some will be donated. We will be holding a silent auction with the funds going towards the purchase of material to make tables and benches.

Feast- Dy will look into how to run a potluck feast. Cassie will inquire at Walmart about them donating rolls.

Lunch-peas porridge, apples and bread were proposed.

We will do a taste testing of dishes.

We will provide water and Gatorade, Goat will inquire about purchasing from distributor for a discounted price. Fiina has jugs we can use.

Kathryn will contact Quinn's, and other local motels to see about room discounts.

We will be setting up a photo op area for the ball.

Decorations were discussed.

The Rose Rises

In 2 weeks. Pre-reg has to be by the 24th. In New Lisbon Wisconsin. Some are carpooling with Beth and Ken.

Heraldry

We are getting stuff set to resubmit. We are going to try to use the new rule and not be a "shire", but a period authentic Nordic version. A vote was held and was unanimously passed in favor of this. Kathryn will research terminology.

Bayfield

Darkstone demo on Sat/Sun. More into to come.

Rose Rises Re-cap

Marcial won the bardic challenge. Will sponsor it next year. Both him and Nero authorized in rapier. John did great on the field. All participated in archery. Bacon breakfast was lauded. Marcial led bardic circle around fire with drum. Shadowes company came to party. Nero and Marcial are looking into becoming archery MITs. Known World Cooks and Bards, 2014 in the Dells was discussed. Dyonisia was asked to help and our Village has been asked to create 30+ tote bags for the teachers teaching at the symposium. Dy is in charge of decorations for Known World. We will ask to borrow swatch book from Jacquarts to browse fabric. Lots of new friends were made.

Danse

Shave is teaching! Thinking about offering travel funds to King and Queen to try and tempt them to attend. Will contact chamberlain. Contest for best mask. Lunch-pottage with whole herbs, venison stew, bread and apples. Feast-goose roast, goose with sauce madame, carrots and parsnips, funges, bread, rice pudding with honey and almonds, honey butter.

Chronicler

Kathryn officially stepped down from the office.

Danse Macabre

Well well! Everyone had fun. Food was abundant. Chris was thanked for the geese, and Blaze and Guyle were thanked for venison. Funds were discussed-profit/loss etc. marcial is now Shava's apprentice/protégé! The hall staff was very pleased with the condition we left the hall and they said they have no issues renting to us again in the future. We will be making a thanks certificate for Lutey's.

Boar's Head

Weekend of Dec 8-9th. We are going to try to get a carpool together. When there we will present King and Queen with the travel funds. Ken and Beth have offered use of their van, have room for 7 passenger. Kathryn, Marcial, nero, John and Vara will be attending. It is $12 for site, $13 for feast. Will be discussed further.

Potluck

We will start drawing for courses again so we can make sure all bases are covered for the meal and so that it is fair to all that provide dishes.

Exchequer Report

It's done, turned in on time. Some discrepencies are there but are getting worked out between Marcial and Regional Exchequer. A vote was held to increase the travel fund donation from $80.50 to an even $100, it was passed unanimously.

Seneschal

Lady Fiina has resigned from her office due to membership lapse and personal issues. We thank her for her service to our Village and await her return to our humble group in the future.

As such, to avoid possible suspension and so we didn`t have a necessary office empty, emergency elections were held.

Seneschal nomination-Kathryn was nominated by Nero, seconded by Lady Vara.

Marcial resigned as Exchequer, Karen and Nero 1st and 2nded.

Kathryn resigned as Chatelaine. Vara 1st, Karen 2nded.

Kathryn was voted in unanimously as interim Seneschal.

Dyonisia was nominated for Exchequer. She accepted the nomination, and was voted in unanimously.

A Formal vote is to be held on November 9th 2012. If anyone else wants to be considered for the offices of: seneschal, exchequer, or chatelaine, please be present at the meeting to do so.

Marcial asked to be considered for Chatelaine. Nero 1st the nomination, Karen 2nded. Vote passed unanimously. Again, formal vote to be held next week.

Due to her new duties as Seneschal, Nero will take over scribal duties from Kathryn starting at the next meeting.

Dec 7th, form must be turned in by 23rd. Theme is "trees". It is day before we leave for boar's head. Probably won't do it.

Cassie and Lawrence might have crash space. Ginny's mom too. Classes discussed, logistics will be discussed later.

Bylaws

At next Thing we will re-read and modify as per bylaws.

Coronation

Skerjastrond putting in bid for spring coronation. Dan approached us to do feast. We cook, they pay. Need to ask about crash space, logistics and menu. Ask about outdoor cooking space & kitchen facilities. Discussed possible menus.

Thanksgiving

Downstairs reserved for group Thanksgiving. Turkey/stuffing taken care of by Kathryn's mother. Dyonisia-green bean casserole. Kathryn and Marcial-mashed potatoes, gravy & pies. John-biscuits, sweet potatoes. Vara-cranberry sauce and ham. Ani-pickles and olives.

Head count by next Friday.

Known World

Dyonisia brought sample of fabric for bags & pattern. Lady Vara will re-size the pattern.

Tsavo's Gear

Tsavo is giving/selling gear. We might get some.

Purchase of loaner helm

Marcial will find a helm and bring price info to purchase a loaner helm. Tsavo might have helm.

Herald Domesday

Need to get persona and award info to Dyonisia

Group Property List

Need to draw up group property list soon.

Chain Maille Class

Char Brickner contacted Marcial about teaching how to make chain maille. Lady Vara might teach. They will have to supply materials. Maybe have Zach donate coils.

12th Night Party

We'll have to cancel or postpone for a week or so. There will be a meat dragon. We will hold the last weekend of Jan. it will be a potluck. Jan 26th tentative date.

OTR II

Skerjastrond accepted the Rusty Blade Challenge. Tentative date is June 29th. We will put date up on NS.org. Possibly turning this event into a camping event.

Camping could be on or off-siteat Norrie or the narrows. Possibly a new site for the event?

Skerjastrond has set the challenge as "Italian vs. French". Each remove will consist of 1 Italian and 1 French dish. Courses will consist of appetizer, 2 "removes" and dessert. Late period. Budget is $250 per team, each pays their own.

Jessica and Rick suggested writing up a scroll invite for TRM as an invite as judges. Will talk to their chamberlin.

There will be combat, Lord Eysteinn has offered heavy, will ask for Rapier.

Themes suggested

Olympic style games "The great hall challenge" People make teams of 5 or less and compete in challenges that span all aspects of the SCA.

Activity related scavenger hunt? Looks more promising.

Lord Marcial will design website

If Giles comes, perhaps we could hold archery.
