Vos Saludo mi pueblo:

Well, just letting you know that I talked with Kim of the white winter winery a
couple weeks ago when I stopped by the winery. It seems they hold tours every
Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday (I believe). I know for SURE they hold tours on
Saturdays at 11 and 2. All we have to do is call ahead of time and make the
reservation.

I propose Feb 29th as the date, at 2 in the afternoon. How does that sound to
everyone? Whom all can I count on going for sure? write me back and let me know.
I OBVIOUSLY recommend carpooling with a DD as we might be in for some sampling.
I will invite Inner Sea once again, let's see what they say this time around.

Unfortunately, I think you'll find that most people will have to work at 2pm on a Wednesday afternoon. Also, the Saturday before that is Fighter School.

*sigh* my mistake, I didn't turn the calendar page when choosing the date.
(shall we chalk it up to holiday cholesterol blocking the arteries to my
brain??)

Thanks for the heads up about fighter's school.
The new date is Saturday, Feb 18th.
Yes, this time I am sure it is a Saturday in February! Same time, 2pm.

Greetings -

Below is the statement from Rodrigo regarding what 18% would be from the groups if they did a group donation.  Please note that Hvitskogar is incorporated into Darkstone, as we hold the funds.

Darkstone            $282.62
Darkstone - 190.81  (combined darkstone general fund and equestrian fund)
Hvitskogar - 91.81  (hvitskogar general fund)

As Rodrigo stated "Remember, the Kingdom is paying the entire invoice to corporate and we're just asking for donations from the groups as you think your group can do without
hampering its ability to stay viable.  If your group can do more than 18% GREAT!  If it can't do anything thats okay too.  We also are more than appreciative to take individual donations too. "

To assist in the group dicussions, in case I am not at the meeting, here is the current amounts in the account.
Darkstone - general fund: approx 1041
Darkstone - equestrian fund: 71.71
Hvitskogar - 335.90 (fyi - this includes the withdraw for the cashbox start funds for your upcoming fundraiser made earlier this week)

Darkstone has a bit more in their account then at the end of 2010, and Hvitskogar has less than what was in 2010.  Hvitskogar, please also keep in mind that you have an upcoming event in which you might have expenses occur before you deposit the income from that.

Please discuss at group meetings to figure out what the group as a whole would like to do.  I know that Hvitskogar meets on Friday, and Darkstone meets on Sunday.   Let me know on decisions, and we can get out funds to kingdom if that is the will of the groups.

Greetings,

Here is the breakdown of how corporate came up with our portion totalling
$44,768.16.  These numbers are based upon the groups 2010 domesday reports cash
and cash bearing interest.  The amount for the Kingdom is slightly off as that
was actually based off the 2011 3rd Quarter cash and cash assets (which was
slightly more) but I'm traveling right now and don't have that in front of me
and was unable to get the numbers before I jump on a plane from corporate so
these are from my spreadsheet that I built from those reports this weekend.
All the other numbers should be dead on (feel free to check the 18% of your
cash/cash bearing interest on your comparative balance sheet on your 2010
domesday).

Remember, the Kingdom is paying the entire invoice to corporate and we're just
asking for donations from the groups as you think your group can do without
hampering its ability to stay viable.  If your group can do more than 18%
GREAT!  If it can't do anything thats okay too.  We also are more than
appreciative to take individual donations too.  Please submit all donations to
our Kingdom Exchequer (Denise Plonis, 45317 Co Rd 172, Deer River MN 56636) and
make the checks out to 'SCA Inc., Kingdom of Northshield' with 'SCA Settlement'
on the memo line.

Good Morning All,

Before you write a check to Kingdom, there was an emergency meeting held between
all of the Hats.  I have been told that the Barony of Nordskogen has offered to pay the contribution
to the Kingdom for the 16 smallest groups.  I was told this by the Baroness of Car Anterh Mar last
night when I was dropping off a scroll.  This has not been posted to the Hall as of yet, so I am going
to contact Nordskogen to confirm this information.

As I was told, Nordskogen has "money sitting around to use for a rainy day," and this is the rainy day.

So please hold off on check writing until this has been confirmed.

Is anyone actually opposed to sending Kingdom the amount they've asked for? The only thing I can think of we'd want to talk about is sending more, and we can send more later. Why not just send out what they've asked for now, and we can talk about sending more on Sunday? ~Cesar

Please discuss at group meetings to figure out what the group as a whole would like to do. I know that Hvitskogar meets on Friday, and Darkstone meets on Sunday. Let me know on decisions, and we can get out funds to kingdom if that is the will of the groups.

Yes, it's true, so please hold your event.  This is what we were
hoping the extra money would do for groups with tigher budgets.

You're very welcome.  You can thank us by throwing a great event,
which I'm sure you will. (Is this for Over the River?  I'll have to
see if I can make that...)  Also, please help us spread the word, so
other groups don't have to worry about making that choice.

Subject: [SCA-MissileCombat] The Fourth Peerage

Greetings to all my friends.

As many of you are aware the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.'s Board of Directors has now started the process for creating what is commonly called "The Fourth Peerage".
Whereas, for years many different groups, whether it is archery, thrown weapons, siege, combat archery, rapier and others that do not fit the standard mold to be added to either the Laureate, the Pelican or the Chivalry and had outstanding members - in many cases, were ignored. It was simply that some activities were square pegs in what they considered a round world. We did not fit.

As you are all aware of the census that was done in 2010/2011 attempted to capture every member of the SCA and all the special interest groups.
In some cases, many people just blew it off in my humble opinion as they had grown tired of rhetoric that extended back decades.
It is also my opinion that in doing so they have hurt all of us as they start setting up The Fourth Peerage, the numbers will be skewed, and the will of the different groups will not be heard and only one group will end up on top.

At this time I want to make sure you understand that I have no ax to grind with any group, those that know me best,
understand I like a level playing field. I am also not so stupid to understand that a perfect world does not exist . But I will continue to help to level the field.

At this time, they have started to set up the procedures for The Fourth Peerage.

They welcome comments, suggestions, etc. etc. but will not put up with abuse.
They are working for the people, with the information, real suggestions, that all groups provide. I have been told it is not too late to make changes to truly make it a peerage for all groups.

While I wore another hat, I did not feel I could write this letter and not make it sound like I was tainting the water.
Those days are over, I am still a siege engineer at a combat archer - and yes, a heavy fighter, but the chances of becoming a member of the Chivalry because I do combat archery and siege are just about as good as me becoming King.

But I would like a legacy of seeing those that are behind me having a chance of becoming a Peer for their skill, peer qualities, and more.
For years, I have seen and heard my brothers and sisters of the bow and of the siege say "They wish there was a way to be recognized."

My brothers - IT IS NOW TIME - I ask you, I beg you, look to the future of the SCA, you wish the program to grow.

Whether it is combat archery, siege, thrown weapons, rapier, etc. This peerage Is not about just one group, unless YOUR and I did say YOUR voice is heard, what we have wished for over decades, maybe lost.

Take the five minutes, or 10, or 15, and send your feelings to the Society Seneschal Countess Kenna Harve (OP). She has been a heavy fighter and has led personally an army into battle. She knows many of you as she has been in charge of the entire water bearing situation both at Pennsic and assisted at Gulf Wars. But if she has no information from other groups, the group that has supplies the most probably will form The Fourth Peerage.

Please, please, please take the time to make your feelings known.
Don't waste time - do it now, tell others you know, it affects the Known World.
It is THAT important!!

Please write her at: seneschal@...

Please show her courtesy and respect in your writings and remember, what you write can change the SCA, maybe not for you, but for a generation coming up behind us.

Yours in service to the SCA and to my brothers and sisters in combat archery, siege, thrown weapons, rapier, etc.

Master Jean Paul Pierrepont OL OP

Ex- Lt. General Middle Kingdom Army

But - most of you just know me as "JP' on a ballista called "Dragon Master"
please write Kenna! Thank you - thank you

To everyone who put together OTR&TTW, BRAVO! A great event with activities for
all tastes; and speaking of taste, a spectacular feast (more like
2-feasts-in-one). I would have loved to top it all off with some dancing, but
honestly, I don't think I could have moved out of my food-induced coma.

Thanks for your efforts~~

Lady Fiina's Home
5:40pm-6:15pm

In Attendance
Lady Kathryn inghean Griffin-Chronicler, LordMarcial de Salas-Exchequer, Lady Fiina Ittaniemi-Seneschal, Lady Vara Galla Bevon MOAS, Dyonisia Buleheued, Matthew Blodgett, Gillan Star, Ellidagrimr Boneflattener, Audun Eyvindr, Zach Rollins

Event
It went well! Everyone was pleased with the turnout and had a good time. Next time we'll figure better for food portions so we don't have a lot of food left over. We had 37 sit for feast, 43 for site. We are very pleased that we made a profit.

Next Event
We're looking into possibly holding Danse Macabre. Lady Kathryn is contacting members of Windhaven, Mistig and beyond to inquire. Would serve a "peasant feast". It would be held the last Saturday of October, the 27th. We will ask local hotels for reduced rates or free rooms to help out anyone traveling from a distance. Township hall for the venue, Marcial will inquire about availability and cost.

Float
The hay wagon will be delivered this coming week and will be housed at Kathryn's moms property. We have access to the garage for construction. A design has already been made and construction will start in the next couple of weeks. Those interested in helping, please contact Lady Kathryn or Lord Marcial.

Thoughts from the peanut gallery:

Planning for feast is often quite difficult, more or less. I know I cooked on an assumption that there would be 50 people. It's often better to send people home full (while still turning a profit) then it is to charge $10 and have people walk away thinking "That wasn't much food. I'm still hungry. McD's anyone?"

Encouragement to pre-reg for feast is always good. Capping the feast at a set number isn't bad either. If you can set a trend that someone's feast will ALWAYS be AWESOME, you can usually count on having a 30-50 person feast fill up, assuming enough site attendees.

Long story short, if everyone turned a profit on feast, then you did just fine. :) Many feasts represent a break-even or even a loss point for many groups.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I am going to now shamelessly plug the Shire of Skerjastrond's final Woodland
Romp, June 22nd through 24th.

We will have Rapier and Heavy combat, several classes, and a wonderful Feast
prepared by Lady Johanna Swynford.

The camping fee is included in the price, but electricity and water hook-up is
not. The site is damp and we will be dancing and singing as much as we can
following Feast. So if you have music to share, please bring it with you!

The site is on the Escanaba River and it gets very shallow before it leaves the
campground. There is no lifeguard but I have seen plenty people swim in it!
Including myself!

<End shameless plug>

I look forward to following the group on here, and to seeing folks from
Hvitskogar in about two weeks!
