Forwarded from the Seneschals list;

Greetings to the Seneschals of Northshield from Toki Magnusson, Deputy
Seneschal of Althing.

There have been several inquiries about Officers' Day and I am glad to
announce that a call for bids will be issued later this week. We are
looking at holding it during the month of March, 2008.

Officers' day is a non-event event. It is a day of meetings between
the Northshield Great Officers and the group officers so they can get
to know each other on a face-to-face basis and get a chance to ask
questions to each other and do some direct training in that situation.

Although the calendar is clear, I know that Coille Stoirmeil has
something planned for that month, but nothing is on the calendar at
this time.

So, If you have questions about hosting Officers' Day, the bid
information will be released later this week, or you could contact me
at toki.magnusson@... or by phone at 715-835-2318.

*****************************

Toki,

Super! Sounds great, and I would be happy to hold a "FAQ about
working with the Press" or some such thing... as long as it doesn't
conflict with Gulf Wars!!

Guenievre, NS Media Relations Liaison

yes Toki Canton of Coille Stoirmeil has event March 21-23. Easter

When would be a good time to get together? I think we should meet
at "Hollowed Grounds" some evening or weekend (soon) and invite a few
people that you know are interested in the SCA. Ten total would fill
the coffee shop, we may have to bring our own seating. I'd let them
know ahead of time.

Other places; B.K.(then the kids could go nuts), Ironwood theatre
(Bev?), Lenore's House, the Micheal's Mansion, any more??

Maybe we could plan a yule party/gathering in cooperation with
Darkstone, a type of "meet-n-greet"

Jeremy Brown is the autocrat for this year's Beltane (spring event) and
I'm sure he'd love help with ideas and facilitating the fest. I think
getting involved (even a little) would start to form bonds between our
groups.

First we have to know who is in this group.

Lets get things rolling again...

Hi Don,

I never even thought of Hallowed ground.  Excellent idea.  Bob is free on Wednesday and Thursday nights. I think it is important that he be there. I kind of like a neutral place like that.  Can you swing either of those nights?  I think we need to just get started and see where it goes, maybe someone who shows up will want to take a leadership position, which is fine with me, since we are up to our necks with the Ren Faire too.  I would love to be able to blend this all together, kill two pheasants with one arrow, so to speak

Well, I'm here, now the party can begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .....*blink* I
have achampagne popper..... *pops and streamers meekly fly out a foot*

Seriously though, glad to be on board. I have been giving thought to my
SCA personna, once I formally join (which shall be sometime soon) I
will choose the name Marcial de Salas, a native Spaniard turned
wanderer. Why limit myself, I could be learned, as well as mysterious.
Also, My wife will join, perhaps Olivia as well..we'll see what the
pocketbook has to say. :D

Hi All;
Just a note to let all know how it goes with a meeting place. I have
gotten written proposals out to the Ironwood Township Hall (Lake Rd)and
to the First Pres. Church, Moore St. Bessemer. Have also contacted:
OLOP about using Church basement; Ironwood HS and Elementary schools;
Bessemer HS; Alternative Schooling (St. Sebastian School, Bessemer);
Woodland Baptist Church (Curry RD> Iwd); Cornerstone Church (Ramsey);
The American Legion (dining hall, Iwd.);trying to find contact for KC
bldg, Iwd. got name-no number-no listing. So far all but Bessemer HS
will be getting back to me, Bessemer HS said no. Also talked to
Coldwell Banker, Real Estate Store, Iwd- John Wysling. He was very
interested in us and in the REN FAIRE and is going to see what he can
come up with to help us out. He is on some committees and boards in the
Iwd Area. (Most positive conversation I've had.) Hopefully we will soon
have a place to meet that will accomodate our needs. Till then, it is
still my little old kitchen, seeing as the IPSD didn't know that their
Thurs booking stays there till 9 pm.

Hey All

Right now it appears that our next meeting is Thursday,Apr 24, 6:30 PM
at my house on Mansfield Street. I very much hoping that we will have
some responces to at least a couple of the contacts I've made. It would
be really nice if there were more than one responce and we had the
option to make a CHOICE. I know, I know, be happy with at least one.
Every one keep positive thoughts. We really need to get going on our
crafting!!!
Yours,
Tina

Well, unfortunately, I can't make it. I have a prior commitment to
attend, so much as I know I shoudl be there, I can't go. Next meeting
though, I'll deff be at with bells on...or chipmunks if you prefer. But
I prefer bells..they don't have rabies and a tendancy to nibble.

Gute Morgan,
It sure is funny how those "prior" commitments can rise-up and bite your arse, but alas I'll be going to a family night thingy at the college on Thursday and shan't light the room with my glorious presents. Anna could use something different to do with kids her own age so we're not going to pass up the opportunity.

I've been doing the Norse thing for a long time now - if anyone wants to pick my brain... feel free, just use a sharp instrument please, the blunt ones give me a headache.

I can't wait to see what JP - "Marshal D. Salsa" (I think the D stands for Dillon) comes up with, his persona being Spanish and all... For quite awhile the Northern people where praising "Spanish Steel" and adapted their own methods (folding with iron) to use it sparingly, producing very lively blades. Hollie could be the Irish maiden that tickled his fancy enough to get him to stay up North fer awhile (wink-wink).

You guys come up with your own ideas and I'll help link them together, or help smooth out the wrinkles in your persona's tapestry.

Hi all,
Thursday the 29th,6:30pm at bluff view park in Bessemer. Yes, that's
right we're starting again after a tooo llooonng hiatus. We're still
looking for a place, although there are a couple of spots that may be
available.

Bring a stick or something similar that you won't mind laying on the
ground and occasionally stepping on. we'll keep it simple 'cause I know
not everyone has been practicing and keeping in shape - that includes
me!

I'll go over how the class will be structured this season and how it
will coincide with the SCA.

See you then,

Allrighty. Some of you know, some of you don't.

I have recently purchased 12 rattan sticks, all SCA legal thickness.
Now, obviously I don't need 12 sticks (especially since they are 8 ft
11 inches each), so I'll be keeping 2 and the remaining 10 are up for
sale. I don't know how much each pole will sell for, but I will sell
them to you guys at cost. I don't feel right making money off of you
since we are comrades in this quest to better ourselves through fencing
and the SCA. All I will say is that it is looking that each pole will
be a little on the pricey side, so an estimate might be $20 per pole.
Again, that is an ESTIMATE, it might be more or less once I get the
second bundle and the invoice tomorrow (most likely. Keep in mind that
each pole is 8' 11", so out of that you could get at LEAST 2 swords. So
yeah, this Thursday I will bring some rattan to practice. Those who
wish to buy, come prepared.

JUst a thought, but perhaps we could get to planning.

Once we become an official SCA group (if we aren't already), perhaps we
could all throw an SCA "event". Given that the definition of "event" is
so loose, we could do something as simple as a party. I propose perhaps
having a beachfront bonfire over at Black River Harbor and throw some
midieval theme in. Perhaps we could learn how to cook fish as the old
norse did, or sing old drinkin songs round a bonfire. Maybe if we could
swing it, we could do some axe throwing or some such. Dunno, just a
thought. I've been planning some sort of party o'er at my place, but
that requires the approval of my landlords and a willingness on yoru
behalf to deal with the slight chance of a black bear wandering in on
our transpirings at night. lol. ....I'm serious!!
