Greetings,
Well I had one of my questions of inventory resolved today.  The costuming that Karen Mallum donated to Ketelblastr from the Ren Faire (MARS) was taken back today .  Rick Albert sent Corey and Heather Johnson here to get it.  Sorry, I didn't but up any argument.  I did inform them that there is still some costuming out with the library group and it is a mixture of MARS things and privately loaned things.  We will see what happens with it. Evidently Karen overstepped her authority in donating it to us. So we have the T-shirts and the coins (unless those are also re-appropriated by Rick since the Faire was "owned" by MARS according to him). So I will have to explain the situation to Riva and perhaps not list the stuff until this is settled. I will not argue about the property because I was threatened with a law suit if I tried to take any of the things I had made for Mars when our chapter closed. It is unfortunate that this ugly monster is still able to rear it's head and give us "trouble" still.
Sincerely,
Finna

Finna,

It is probably best that you not put up a fight, Rick would probably feed off of
that and turn it into a bigger stink than it need be. IF he wants the other
stuff back, like the shirts and stuff, give him Hollie's number and I'll deliver
it or mail it. Last thing I want is trouble over things that can be replaced
(although they shouldn't be). I guess the only positive aspect of this all is
that Ketelblastr gets the chance to make new garb that will not be the property
of anyone but the makers (whom can loan it out to the group at their
discretion). Plus having a costuming boom will look great for our A&S section,
right? It is unfortunate that your work (as well as that of Virginia if I am
correct) is being taken away, but as the saying goes, "let the baby have his
bottle".

IF Rick even thinks of laying a finger on your privately owned costuming
however, he had better expect a fight as WE will be doing the sueing. I'll
gladly back you up there. Just prepare yourself and write an inventory slip that
states what is private to protect yourself and your property. Ditto for Ginny.

As for MARS owning the faire...hardly. It was sponsored by MARS, but truly the
community owned it given the various contributions (which monetarily speaking
was a very big benefactor)..but whatever.

Sorry all this drama had to go down, though it gives us all the more reason to
disassociate ourselves from Rick and MARS which he has tainted with his actions
and presence:

Greetings all. I am just writing to say that Hollie and myself will not be able
to make it to Bay Days afterall due to a death in the family (the memorial is on
Sat) and Hollie has a prior engagement for Sunday.

As for any sort of Gathering or Thing at Powdermill Resort, there will be no
Thing held this Saturday and as far as I am aware, there will be no gathering.
However if you DO plan on gathering, please do post up! Again, Hollie and I will
not be able to make it.

Also, as a side note: I hear there is road construction scheduled for Sat on the
main road out to Powdermill. If you plan on gathering, take the alternate route
coming from Lake/Airport road.

Greetings all:

Just a reminder that Ketelblastr will be having a gathering and a Thing on
Saturday, June 25th at Powdermill resort beginning at 4:30.

Special Notes:
The regular way into Powdermill is open again, though a small section of thr
road is loose gravel, no biggie though.

The downstairs was being used for a rummage sale as of Thursday, and it may
still be occupied, so I do not expect there to be any Martial practice (pending
a Darkstone marshal shows up of course) unless we do it in the upstairs or
outside (again, if a Darkstone Marshal shows up). Please bring an A&S project or
your armour to work on. I will bring a little leather and a few basic working
supplies. I will also bring the LSTs, and deliver them.

Just a little reminder to all whom have either not created or updated their database entries. There are currently two databases for members of Ketelblastr to fill out.

The Roll Call, which serves us as a group so that we know each other's projects, interests, and contact info. This is useful for our MoAS as well as fellow members who may share a common interest.

There is also the LIKES and DISLIKES database which is for the purpose of our culinary challenges. This is important so that we know what to cook that will please the majority of people and also alert us as to any food allergies, which I know of a couple. (really important as I'm sure no one in the group wants to be responsible for sending someone to the E.R.)

So please drop on by the group and update that at your earliest conveniance :)

be well, and may Finnish winds fill your sails!

Salutations,
I sure missed us last week. What a creature of habit I have become. Any thoughts as to  a supper?  I thought perhaps hot dogs on the grill if there is a grill we could use of bring.  We could all BYO.  It could still be period authentic even because they did have sausage. The perpetual MOM always thinking of sustenance for the family.

Greetings;
You know, I seem to have lousy luck when it comes to cook-outs.  It can be a beautiful day and if I plan to cook out it gets overcast and rainy.  As soon as I change my plans, the sun comes out and it turns gorgeous!  That is the way it always works.
I do have a supper prepared for the gathering tonight.  Hope it suits all who join us. Nothing fancy I'm afraid.

Forming Shire of Ketelblastr
Meeting Notes
Saturday July 25th, 2009 5:30pm
Powdermill Resort

In Attendance
Hollie Salazar-Deputy Chronicler, Cassie Gibbs-Chronicler, Lea & Jacob Kravetz, Kristian Popko, Tina Popko, Lawrence Brozzo, J.P. Salazar-Seneschal

Daily Globe Article

JP re-wrote the proposed article a little bit, but no one else has gotten the chance to. It will be discussed further at the next Thing.

Daily Globe Ad

Lenore is working on a new version of the ad which will appear in the Daily Globe, but JP told her to wait until our meeting dates are more concrete and possibly to wait until the public website is up.

Ketelblastr Website

JP took a look at the web hosting site that Don suggested and liked what he saw. JP is going to look into funding options i.e. payment via cashiers check or money order via USPS so as to have a receipt.

MoAS and Exchequer Quarterly Reports

Lenore contacted JP with the info that her MoAS quarterly report was turned in. Tina also turned in her quarterly Exchequer report and she said that everything balances out.

Scattered Stones Newsletter

Cassie and Hollie asked Tina and will ask Lenore to submit their officer letters to the populace. They should be turned in soon. Members were also asked to submit pictures of projects, fights, or ketelblastrs activities in general as well as artwork, etc. to either Hollie or Cassie.

The Next Culinary Challenge

Members present voted that the next culinary challenge will be held on Saturday, July 22nd. At the next Thing, courses shall be drawn and a theme shall be decided.

Crown Tourney and Poor Man's Pennsic

Hollie brought up the upcoming events "poor Man's Pennsic, held Friday-Sun August 7-9th by the Shire of Falcon's Keep in Wisconsin Rapids. Members pretty well agreed that it would not be feasible to go to that event. Hollie also brought up the possibility of going to the Fall Crown Tourney held on Saturday, October 10th by the Barony of Windhaven in Fond du Lac WI. Members expressed interest in going there as it might be possible to save up money and find ways to carpool by then.

Misc:
The food served at the meeting was root vegetables and brats as well as breads brought by Tina. Cassie and Hollie brought drinks and pies. JP brought honey butter.

The Thing was followed by an A&S session as well as armoring and rattan working.

Next Meeting

The next Thing and Gathering is scheduled for Saturday, August 1st beginning at 4:00 at Powdermill Resort.

Allrighty folks, just sharing a little more info about the proposed website and what domainnamesanity.com offers.

They DO accept casher's check and money order via snail mail, so we're sittin' pretty there.
Their payment goes towards two things
1:Domain name registration
2:Hosting

To register our domain name (www.ketelblastr.org ....noting ".org" instead of ".com" because we are a part of an organisation) for one year will cost us $19.95, for 2 years it's $37.90, for three years it's $54.85 and for 4 years it's $70.80.

Asides from that is our hosting package. There are two that I was looking at and each has its pros and cons.

There is the "Value package" which offers us lots of goodies (such as e-mail accounts, no pop-ups or banners, guestbook, counter, templates for making the site etc.), but is limited to 99 pages, 100Mb of space and only 2 Gigs of bandwidth a quarter. That means that we will only be allowed 100 Mb of images (including buttons, banners, gifs, and pics of us), text files, and things of the sort. It also means that all the combined visitors of the site will not be able to view more than 2 gigs worth of pages/images every 3 months. Not too much all said and done if we get heavy traffic. On the plus side, it's cheap and 99 pages should suffice our needs as of now.
This package (including a 1 year domain registration and 1 year worth of hosting which comes to us at a 20% savings as compared to paying per quarter) would run is a total of $83.90.

Then there is the "Monster package" offers us all the same goodies as the value package PLUS detailed web stats (tells us who visits our site and when) as well as 1000 MB worth of upload space (meaning we could have a grand ol' site), unlimited bandwidth per quarter (which is not truly unlimited, it actually means 10 Gigs per month...which is MORE than plenty, but there is a small penalty if we should happen to go over that)  as well as an unlimited number of pages we can create on the site, which is more than we need.
This package (including the 20% discount for paying a whole year upfront and a 1 year domain name registration) will run us $119.94, a difference of $36.04 (estimated, of course we could decide to register our domain for longer. Also add in the price for making out the money order or check AND postage)

There are the stats folks. Think it over and decide whether or not those estimated $36 dollars are worth it.

My opinion: Go with the 1 year domain registration and the value pack. Right now we aren't a huge group and IF our needs should happen to outgrow the site, there are always ways to get around the bandwidth limitations of one site (like make picture pages on a separate FREE site) or we could upgrade. That way we still have a little money left over so we can buy stuff for our group such as fabric, leather, armour, etc. we can always pay for longer registration and continued hosting service as we go along.

Be well, and may Finnish winds fill your sails.

In Attendance
Hollie Salazar-Deputy Chronicler, J.P. Salazar-Seneschal, Cassandra Gibbs-Chronicler, Lawrence Brozzo, Tina Popko-Exchequer, Kristian Popko, Lea and Jacob Kravetz, Tobi Burgoyne, Jamie, Virginia Burgess, Guyle Burgess

Daily Globe Article

No progress made, will be discussed at the next Thing.

Scattered Stones Newsletter

Hollie and Cassie announced that the newsletter is nearly complete. The only things missing are the letter from the MoAS and answers for Don's Kennings. The Newsletter's printed publication will be privately funded by willing members through donations of supplies such as ink, paper, staples etc. All receipts will be submitted to the Exchequer for tax purposes.

Crown Tourney

Tina's daughter has offered the use of her new house as crash space should Ketelblastr make the Fall Crown tourney. Her backyard can be used as tent space.

Ketelblastr Website

JP read off all the info he gathered about domainnamesanity.com's best packages. That information can be found in message #210 in the yahoo group. As the majority of voters were present, we voted on which package we would go with as well as how long we should register our domain.

8 Votes decided that we will go with the "Value package"
8 Votes decided that we will register our domain name for 1 year.
This will cost us an estimated total of $83.90.
(Please note that Kristian, Jamie and Guyle did not partake in the vote and Jacob is a baby and thusly did not vote)

We also decided that the website will be funded by the group's money which is held by Darkstone right now. Tina will get in touch with Riva to see how to go about withdrawing funds and which type of payment method is preferable (cashier's check or money order)

Ketelblastr's Device

JP took a cue from other forming groups and decided to roughly create some devices with the laurel wreath so we can submit a proper device to Northshield and SCA corporate. JP brought three examples. By group vote, a fourth choice was selected as the winner which was the smaller wreath above a large cauldron, both silver. JP will work on creating it and posting it up.

The Next Culinary Challenge

Members present decided courses and cuisine of our next culinary challenge by drawing papers from a cup.

This challenge's cuisine is Spanish, no specific time period (asides from what we practice in the SCA). We emphasize proper research and the making of a recipe card to share with the group. JP reminded the group that the spices Lady Conandil sent are available for everyone in the group to use, should they wish. Courses drawn are as follows:

Cassie and Lawrence-Bread & Cheese/Appetizer
JP and Hollie - Meat Dish
Ginny - Soup or Salad
Tina - Vegetables
Lea - Dessert
Drinks will be BYOB unless someone else takes up the course.

CORRECTION FROM LAST MINUTES: in the posting of the last minutes on the yahoo group, JP erroneously wrote that the next challenge was set for July 22nd. The correct date for our next culinary challenge is Saturday, August 22nd.

Official Mailing Address

The group discussed the importance of having an official mailing address. Members present voted YES to purchase a P.O. box in Ironwood and fund it with Ketelblastr funds. JP will contact the Ironwood PO to find out the details of obtaining a mail box.

Misc:
JP and Hollie brought Picadillo and warm corn tortillas for the group. It was Mmm Mmm Good! Tina brought brownies and cottage cheese which were immediately consumed by all.

The Thing was followed by an A&S session as well as armoring and rattan working.

Next Meeting

The next Thing and Gathering is scheduled for Saturday, August 8th beginning at 4:00 at Powdermill Resort.

Greetings fellow Ketelblastrs:

Well, I worked on a crude version of the new Device with the laurel wreath and
posted it into the Misc folder of the pics page here on the group. I even
blazoned it for our benefit :D

******************************************************************

Tina, here is the link Hollie told you about for the public domain images.
http://karenswhimsy.com/public-domain-images/

******************************************************************

As for P.O. boxes in Ironwood, it gets a lil expensive. I looked up the info
online and according to the USPS website, the price for a:

3 X 5.5 inch box is $20 for 6 mos and $40 for a full year. That should more than
suffice for our needs as it is the size of an average box. That will fit any
issue of northwatch easily as well as any run of the mill letter.

5 X 5.5 inch box is $28 for 6 mos and $56 for a full year. This is a little
bigger than what we would generally need.

The rest of the specs are for boxes which would be FAR too big for our uses and
most likely a waste of precious monetary resources.

I don't know that the USPS offers any reduced rate for Non Profit groups, but I
can inquire (and matter of factly will, come tomorrow)

*******************************************************************

So there you go folks, that's the follow up.

I might be able to provide you free domain hosting. That way, you would only need to register the domain name (about 10-20/yr) and have it hosted at our work. I'll talk to the boss and see if he's good with that.

Otherwise, keep up the good work.

have the chance to practice our martial combat.

Forming Group of Ketelblastr
Minutes of the Thing
Saturday August 8th, 2009 4:46pm
Powdermill Resort

In Attendance
Hollie Salazar-Deputy Chronicler, JP Salazar-Seneschal, Cassandra Gibbs-Chronicler, Lord Don German, Lady Lenore Koski, Anna German, Jamie, Ed Burgoyne, Virginia Burgess

Daily Globe Article

No work has been done on the article except for a revision made by JP which will be posted. It was suggested that we cut out the word "Shire" in the article as well as in the newsletter. Don suggested the use of the term "hall" when we become a full status group, though we need to look into the limitations of what designations are allowed. "Forming group" is to be used until further notice. The deadline for any revisions to the article will be next week, Saturday August 15th.

Scattered Stones Newsletter

Lenore and Don will get the missing pieces to Cassie and Hollie by next week. We will see about using sealing wax to seal newsletter copies for the higher-ups that must receive Scattered Stones.

Lenore OK'd the use of her e-mail address only for newsletter contact info purposes.

Ketelblastr Website

Don, Cassie and JP have agreed to work on the website's initial setup. We will have to work on finding and designating a proper web minister however, and we will investigate what corporate law is for web ministers.

Domainnamesanity.com offers e-mail customer support for $9.99 more. The group unanimously voted yes to purchasing that plan. They also offer a special income generating offer for non profit groups. Basically we put up a banner for them and they give us 20% of any income generated from new customers obtained through that banner. The group will discuss that more in our next Thing. We also discussed the fact that we should create group officer e-mail accounts such as ketelblastr_seneschal@....

Tina is currently inquiring about the withdrawal of funds from Riva.

Cy contacted us about free hosting through his company. The group voted not to accept his gracious offer as of now.

P.O. Box

JP checked USPS online and it says that in Ironwood, a 3x5.5 P.O. box is $20 for 6 months and $40 for a full year. After discussing it, members present decided that it was not an absolute necessity as of now. It was agreed that JP and Hollie's P.O. box would be used for official purposes until further notice.

Group Picture

As we do not have a group picture as of yet, so we have set an official date for a group picture to be taken. The date was set for two weeks from now, Saturday August 22nd before the culinary challenge begins (around 4:30). Please show up and dress in your garb or armour.

Dish Research

The group discussed how their research was coming along for the culinary challenge in two weeks. JP found a couple of good sites and offered them to anyone who needs them. JP also reminded the group of the spices sent from Lady Conandil. If anyone needs any of them for their recipe, please let him know.

Signing In On the Minutes

JP suggested that for official purposes, only people who actively attend and participate in "Things" should sign in on the minutes since as of now, some people who sign in aren't participating. (this refers to the babies of the group, pets, and some children/members.) This is set to take effect next week.

Gogebic County Fair

JP announced that a while back a co-worker had mentioned us getting a booth at the Gogebic County Fair through one of his connections. As of now, it is too late to plan something properly or look into it. It may also be too expensive. The possibility of having a booth at next year's "Fly in" at the airport next year and the GCC is there pending we research it.

Fundraiser

JP asked about the Wench Wash we were proposing earlier in the year. The group discussed whether or not it is too early to have another fundraiser. Lenore suggested we stick to bake sales as they have been successful and almost unique to us in the area, Ginny suggested soup/chili, perhaps hot dogs and brats. We will look into which venues are best for future fundraisers.

The end of September/beginning of October is looking like a good time to have our next fundraiser. Lady Lenore suggested holding a combined demo/sale/fundraiser at either Bluff view park or Sunday Lake park. This would require the help of Darkstone for the demo portion.

Ketelblastr's Device

The group decided to have JP submit our device as is (with the silver laurel) to the college of heralds and see what they have to say as far as corrections, suggestions etc. If this submission process costs anything, JP will consult the group again before submitting.

Mock Event

Ketelblastr is beginning to plan a mock event with Skerjastrond, Mistig Waetru and Darkstone being invited. It will be run as though it were an event in many ways to test our event holding skills, but will be mainly a "meet and greet" not an actual event. It will be kept informal yet structured, and possibly have the fest be a pot-luck where we provide the main course and beverages. Ideas tossed around for food were cockaleekie soup, bread and cheese course as well as roasted veggies. Each member will think more about the idea and present their thoughts and ideas at the next Thing.

We should also check the Northshield website for conflicting dates before setting one for our mock event.

Trip to Darkstone

JP suggested we go up to Darkstone sometime to interact with our sponsor group and get some martial practice in. The date is yet to be determined.

Next Meeting

The next Thing and Gathering is scheduled for Saturday, August 15th beginning at 4:00 at Powdermill Resort.

You may have seen us around at our fundraisers, heard about us from friends or our fliers, seen an encampment at the Lake Superior Renaissance Faire, or seen some people dressed in medieval clothes practicing sword fighting or working on our arts and crafts. Who are we? We are the Society for Creative Anachronism, or the S.C.A. for short.

Up until now, the closest groups have been the Shire of Darkstone, hailing from Ashland WI, and the Shire of Mistig Waetru hailing from Houghton MI. However, thanks to the efforts of some very dedicated and enthusiastic local people, we are proud to say that Ironwood MI is now the home of a forming group called Ketelblastr (which is old Norse for "cauldron that contains inspiration" ) , and we invite you to join us in recreating the past and having fun in the way that only the S.C.A. can provide!

What is the S.C.A.? Well, for starters, it is not a renaissance group and is not affiliated with either the Lake Superior Renaissance Faire or the Upper Great Lakes faire, though both Ashland and Ironwood chapters have, respectively, volunteered and held demos at the L.S.R.F. Secondly, we are not affiliated with the Midwest Amateur Renaissance Society (M.A.R.S.) as we are a completely different organization with different objectives, different members and different activities. Lastly, odd as we may seem, we are not a cult! The S.C.A. is an international Not for Profit Organization with approximately 30,000 members and 60,000 participating people, and still growing with members ranging from newborn to Senior citizens!

The S.C.A.'s aim is recreating the middle ages "as they ought to have been" , mainly from pre 17th century Europe, though some of our personas study and recreate the traditions and arts from the Orient and Middle-east! What the S.C.A. offers is a hands-on experience of what it was like to live as a person in medieval days, from the cultural mannerisms to culinary arts, leather and metal working to martial arts, archery to garb making and SO much more! We offer a chance to escape into a world where chivalry, honor, tradition and fun are a part of every gathering. We offer a getaway from the troubles and complexities of the modern world into the simplicity and richness of history long past. What the S.C.A. does can be broken up into 3 aspects, Official, Martial, and Arts & Sciences.

The Official aspect is what keeps the S.C.A., its Kingdoms, Prinicipalities, Baronies and local chapters running and is comprised of officers which hold meetings and marshal our practices. This aspect of the S.C.A. teaches us leadership, responsibility, diplomacy and service to others. The Martial aspect is the most dramatic and comprises of Archery, Thrown Weapon Competitions, Rapier Combat and Heavy Armour Combat. Strict safety rules and Marshals who enforce all the rules and regulations set forth by the S.C.A. and their Kingdoms ensure that even our youngest youth combatants are safe and have a great time. Men and women, young and old alike square off on the field of honour and practice the arts of authentic sword and pole-arm fighting, weapons throwing and archery.

Either type of combat is a fantastic way to get a decent amount of exercise in and offers a unique sport that emphasizes honor, chivalry and a strive for personal excellence. The Arts and Sciences aspect of the S.C.A. is what makes us truly unique. We not only study, but recreate as many aspects of days pre 17th century as we can. We research and recreate clothing which is sometimes made completely from scratch as well as cook sumptuous feasts fit for the kings of yore. We make our own armour out of leather or metal for combat and make rich pennons that fly overhead at events.

We play games long forgotten and drink of steaming mugs round a campfire, retelling the same sagas as Norse families so many centuries ago. We craft our own meads and forge our own metal. Members play the same music heard by ancient ancestors and make pottery. As you can see, the Arts and Sciences aspect of the S.C.A. spans the whole spectrum, from simple to complex, from flashy to rugged and everything inbetween! Research is the core of this aspect of the S.C.A. and through it, we learn new skills, enhance current ones, expand our knowledge and create things we can be proud of.

As Ketelblastr is still in its forming stages, we are utmostly reliant on our current members and future members to make our group a rich one with diverse activities and a friendly environment. And so we ask you, O'honorable reader to drop on by (with your families if you have them) and see what we do for a fun night out, or join us and make our group all the richer with your energy and enthusiasm, with your physical prowess and chivalrous attitude, with your talents and knowledge, and most importantly, with your friendship. Join us on Saturdays from 4:00 to around 9:00 at Powdermill Resort (formerly Powdermill Creek resort). Please check our website to confirm that we are meeting the day you would like to stop in as we sometimes attend events thrown by neighboring shires or are else wise occupied.

Greetings all:

I am just writing to say that there has been some discussion between management at Powdermill Resort and it is in our best interest to lay low for a while until things settle down over there, or until further notice.

This means that until further notice we will NOT be meeting at Powdermill Resort for either Things or Gatherings effective immediately 08/13/09.

This is indeed unfortunate, but with any luck we will still have our space once all the hullabaloo is over and done with. As of now, Don and I have all of our possessions from the spare room as it was suggested we take our stuff out just in case

So as of right now, there is no Thing or Gathering scheduled for this Saturday 08/15/09 unless someone wants to meet at their house or somewhere else.

So that's where we stand folks, please write ASAP if you want to host a Thing or Gathering at your house or what to suggest somewhere else!

Friends in Ketelblastr,

I would like to open my home, yard, garage (or, the half that doesn't contain Lea's furniture) to our meetings.  We even have power in the garage now!  I have been itching for a reason to have a "bonfire" in the evenings and what better excuse?!  Cassey's  idea is also a good suggestion.  NOrrie Park may be a good alternative or perhaps Bluff View park is available.

Greetings all:

I had also thought of gathering at a beach and turn it into a swim-meet type
thing tomorrow, but meeting at Norrie or Tina's place sounds great. I would
suggest my place, but to be honest it's a mess and I have little drive to clean
as of now :P

Tells ya what....how's about we meet at Tina's place (since she so graciously
offered) and we can meet, have a bonfire AND work on the pells (since Tobi and
Lawrence will have their LSTs at hand). Hollie and I will gladly bring some
brats over :)

So to recap and put the official notice out there:

Ketelblastr will have a Thing and Gathering on Saturday, August 15th starting at
4:00 at Tina Popko's house.

Forming Group of Ketelblastr
Minutes of the Thing
Saturday August 15th, 2009 4:30pm
Finna Ittaniemi's House

In Attendance
Hollie Salazar-Deputy Chronicler, Virginia Burgess, Tina Popko-Exchequer, JP Salazar-Seneschal, Lawrence Brozzo, Cassandra Gibbs-Chronicler, Amalea Kravetz, Kristian Popko

Daily Globe Article

JP posted his revision online and has received approval from the group as well as Cy. JP will submit it soon to whomever it gets sent to next.

Scattered Stones Newsletter

The only article needed is Lenore's MoAS letter to the populace. If it is not received by the deadline (tonight 11:59 pm) it will be cut out for this issue. 25 printed copied will be needed at this time. Hollie gave the group a quick preview of the newsletter and as of now it is 7 pages worth of content. Finna was asked to do a Finnish edition of the "how do you say?" article for the next issue. JP was asked to contact THL Cy about how many copies Darkstone will want.

Ketelblastr Website

JP wrote to Cy to turn down his offer. All we are waiting on is money. Finna asked Riva of Darkstone and she says that the best route is a check, which can be written out to us so there are no loose receipts.

Group Picture

Given the issue with Powdermill Resort, we discussed if we should postpone the group picture. The group decided that we will still keep the original date of 08/22/09 before the culinary challenge is set to start. Possible photograph sites are at Finna's house or at Lea's Dad's place over by Norrie Park, Tina's house being the most likely site. Please dress in Garb or armour!

Culinary Challenge

The Culinary challenge is still on and will be held at Tina's house on Saturday, August 22nd at 4:00(ish). Tina will provide two wood fires and cast iron cookware for cooking if desired. Everyone has been working hard at researching their Authentic Spanish recipes and it is looking like this is gonna be a great feast! JP also offered the spices again.

Ketelblastr Device and Name Submission

JP wrote to Cy and to ask who to contact regarding submissions. Cy wrote back and JP then wrote to the Rede Boke Herald-Meister Gevehard von Baden whom supplied all the needed answers. JP relayed this info to the group and will get to work on submitting our device and name. JP also asked Don to provide the source stories for the name "Ketelblastr" as well as redesign the device so that we can have a clean and good looking device as well as a line drawing.

Mock Event

Given the issues with Powdermill resort, any and all plans for a mock event are on hold.

Letter of Appreciation

Ginny suggested we write a letter of appreciation to Rick Pearson and possibly the Condo board to thank them for the use of their facilities as well as to tell them how well Powdermill Resort has suited us in an attempt to further secure our home. The idea was well received by the group.

Trip to Darkstone

We plan to go up to visit our sponsor group, Darkstone, Sunday, September 6th to hand deliver our first issue of Scattered Stones as well as get some martial practice in.

Next Meeting

The next Thing and Gathering is scheduled for Saturday, August 22nd beginning at 4:00 at Tina Popko's (Finna Ittaniemi's) House. On this day we will also hold our 3rd Culinary Challenge as well as a group photo shoot.

Greetings, Good People!

I did e-mail my MOAS newsletter submission to Hollie. She should have received
it well before the meeting; if not, let me know. Perhaps next time, barring any
more computer problems - both have been giving us grief, mine will be first!!!!
At the least, handwritten!

Sorry we missed the meeting. Don had to work. We will probably be down state the
weekend of the 22 - family things...if Don can swing it.

It wouldn't hurt to begin another search for another meeting place where
swordplay can happen indoors - just in case. It is unfortunate about the resort
business. We may still be able to meet there. A letter of gratitude is a great
idea - one to Rick and one to the Association.

Aside from what they say about good intentions...
this is the beverage I was going to attempt for this month's Spanish Cooking
Challenge.

Passing it along, since I already did the research and if anyone else is up to
including a beverage along with their other lottery dish...

Clarea de Agua

Ruperto de Nola's Libro de Cozina, 1529 edition, Vincente Cuenca translation and
(modified) redaction

To an azumbre of water, four ounces of honey; add the same spices as the other
clarea; boil the water with the honey and then add the spices off the fire.

Spices for Clarea

Cinnamon three parts, cloves two parts, ginger one part, all ground and passed
through a sieve and for an azumbre of white wine add an ounce of spices with a
pound of honey, well mixed and passed through a sleeve of heavy linen enough
times that the wine comes out clear.

This redaction for Spiced Honey Water was taken from the Feast of the Seven
Deadly Sins, A Meal in Medieval Spain by the Barony of Delftwood
February 12, 2005
Cocineros (Head Cooks):Dame Katja Davidova Orlova Khazarina of Robakovna and Don
Eric Grenier de Labarre (Grendel)

Spiced Honey Water

1 gallon water

8 oz. honey

2 oz. fresh sliced ginger

Boil the honey and water together, skim off the foam, then remove the pot from
the fire and add the ginger. Let steep overnight, then strain them out through
some fine cheesecloth.

My intentions were to follow the recipe more exactly and use the cinnamon,
cloves and ginger in the same proportions as the original.

Lenore
