I have built a Victoria with the new kit, that I won as a door prize at the
Nationals (donated by our class president/fashion consultant).

The kit is very close to the original. The sails, although an improvement
and good for a regular Sunday sail, should not to be confused with racing
sails. The kit sails now have a string in the jib luff, which really helped
but the cut is flat and apparently cut for looks rather than aerodynamics.

The keel and rudder had to be heated (in boiling water) and bent back to
straight as mine came "prebent". The keel was worse than the rudder.
Although this was not hard to do, it was disappointing and it could lead one
to question the tolerances in other areas. I have not noticed any other
manufacturing problems. The lead bulb now comes painted with fewer
imperfections. Anyone that races will sand and repaint the lead bulb
anyway.

I did not use the kit's standing rigging. I prefer carbon spars with one
set of side stays. The number/style of stays is controversial and different
skippers have different ideas on what is fast. There are several folks that
sale "racing rigs". Check our website for links to these folks.

Overall the new hull is so close to the original, you wouldn't notice the
difference (if there are any). The deck might be a bit stiffer.

The new kit would be beneficial to anyone that just wants a fun boat that is
easy to sail. To be "race ready" would still require products from a third
party. But I doubt you would bring a "stock" car to a road race either.

Hope some of this is helpful. Keep in mind that most racers only use the
hull, keel and rudder from the original kit, so as far as that goes, nothing
has really changed.

thanks,
Tony Grim

Just a 'heads up'

I just sold my Vic #823 and when I shipped it back east the cost to
pack and ship UPS ground was nearly $80. About half and half shipping
and packaging- if anyone knows a better(cheaper) way to ship cross
country you might post it here- it's too late for my situation but
there may be other people in the same boat (situation).

Update To "Frostbite"

Hey Everyone:

Well one week of registration is complete and we have 9 entries so
far for the 2004 "Frostbite". This event is already setting up to be
a great event so I hope you will consider joining us for some great
competition, fun and camaraderie. Like the awesome and incredible
job done in San Antonio for Nationals, the On-Line entry form has
definitely made things easier this year for registration.

http://www.clear-point.org/FrostbiteOnLineRegistration.htm

I have also added a page of entries so far with channel numbers in
order of receipt.

I will continue to keep everyone posted but I would like to ask that
you pass the word around to all those who sail the Victoria.

42 Days to go.

See you on the water soon.

Just to get the conversation started, the last time I had my boat apart I tried
a deck support made of left over mast material (carbon fiber). I made a sleeve
to go over the keel tube. I fit it to just the right distance between the keel
well and the deck. It keeps the mast stays from forcing the deck down with out
adding very much weight.
I also used carbon fiber for a mast crane. it was left over jib club material.
I took a 4" piece of carbon fiber and put it through a drilled hole in the top
of the mast and epoxies it in place using cotter pins ca glued in the ends to
hook the forestay and the back stay. The purpose is to use the strength of the
carbon fiber without adding much weight topside.
Just a thought

visible) role as our CS. If anyone has any questions about this
boat, please feel free to write to me,,,I'll be happy to pass on any
and evry tip I possess. My Regards, George Emmert, AMYA 10177
Victoira #27. Presently a member of the O'Aces Yacht club in Las
Vegas and now a member, and actively sailing my Soling1M with the
members of the Indian River Model Sailing Club, Vero Beach, Florida.
This is a really fine Sport. Building is the hobby part...sailing in
competition is a blast. The Sport of Model Yacht Racing, a sport
that is growing all over the planet. The Victoria has played a
significant role for seeding the AMYA's membership. This boat will
be around for many years to come. Good luck everyone, George Emmert

Brian,
I have no problems with restricting the membership to registered
owners. Heck they can front the $5 like we did. BTW my sister is a
registered owner, V 536, Diane Wells DianeW3@.... But we
can start a heck of a good how too area, source for parts etc. I just
got a set of Carbon rods for the main, boom and jib boom. The main is
the same size as the stock Alum. mast from Hang'em High fabrics out
of Richmond, VA. for 17.00, this includes shipping. But I love the
idea of our own site. Gloria Wells V 533

I would like to keep this Forum/Group restricted to Registered
Victoria Skippers - anyone have a problem with that?

But how can we use this service and identify the skippers with their
registered Victoria Number - any ideas?

The stolen Texas Rag (OOOps Flag) would make a nice companion-way
mat to be used on my full sized sail Boat Orion. With a carefull
folding job, and suitable cutting and stitching, the White Star,
would be a good logo for Orion. My Grandfather owned the White Star
Fleet in Worcester, UK (Not the Dublin Whit Star Line of Titanic
fame).

Thanks to the skipper who returned my "brand new, never used OR
SANDED" rudder, came in package from Texas, with no accompanying
note.

Brian,

Just want to say thanks for setting up this forum. As a newbie to
Victoria racing, I'm looking forward to listening to all those veteran
Victoria racers, spread across our great nation. I think a forum is a
great place to share ideas. thoughts about "go fast" items and to
discuss issues important to our class.

Thanks,

Jay Obst Vic 601

Ray, if you can remember, I was suppose to meet you at a resturant to pickup
the Michigan flag. But I ran into the guys fron the North Shore MYC (?) at
the Best Western and they give it to me. So it weren't me.

Hey Everyone:

Great to have a new site to get the information out about our great
Class. Thanks Brian 8-)

Here is the link to the official information regarding the
2004 "Frostbite" Regatta for the Victoria Class.

http://www.clear-point.org/Frostbite.htm

January 23rd - 25th, 2004
Burke/Crenshaw Park, Pasadena, TX

I have also added this year ON-LINE REGISTRATION which will be
quicker at:

http://www.clear-point.org/FrostbiteOnLineRegistration.htm

The Friday afternoon , the 23rd will be available for early check in
and practice. We will then have final check in on Saturday morning
with the event starting shortly afterwards. Sunday will be the last
day ending at 3:00 p.m. with the awards.

Please consider attending if you can. Signup is on a first come
basis and due to the huge success and turnout in San Antonio at
Nationals, I am hoping that some of the excitement of the class will
continue for this event as well. I am looking forward to us hosting
this once more. This will be the 4th year that this event has taken
place and is now one of the premier events on the circuit for the
Victoria Class.

Any questions, please feel free to e-mail directly and I will help
out.

Thanks and as always...

Good Sailing ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ _/)

Guys,
OK - Now we're rolling here with the good stuff! And let me be the
first to start a thread here! Now I know the great sailors of Texas
will ban together with me here and maybe even a few adopted Texans
will jump into the cause. As we all know we (WSC) pulled off the
greatest Nationals to date and with the Parade of State Colors it
made each skipper even prouder to be part of their home State. We'll
so you would think. Looks like we have a defector amongst us here!
The way you become a true Texan is to first buy a Quality named beer
for your fellow skippers while you just get to drink all the Lone
Star Beer you want down here! Second , display your "Don't Mess with
Texas" stickers or wear the shirt proudly, and on film I might add.
And thirdly and not least, never and I mean never snag a Texas Flag
for a souvenir and leave yours in return. That's the lowest! And by
the way what are we going to do with that rag anyway, except use it
as a dish rag in the WSC's kitchen. So if you haven't figured this
out yet , we have a "Want to be Texan" on our hands that has done a
very bad thing. I will narrow it down to the culprit and make a
public lashing out at next years Nationals in Detroit. Let's see
here, 37 skippers , 22 of them from Texas, this should be easy to
narrow down. Anybody want to take a quess or any other hints out
there? The fued has started!!!!!!!!! All I have to say is " Those
damn Yankee's!!!!!! And remember we consider anyone North of the Red
River to be a Yankee!!!!

Oh yea , Thanks for getting this Group going Brian! I'm sure the
Detroit group will really benefit the most as the year goes on.

Nice to have a forum again, I was feeling kind lost without knowing
what is going on with the Vic's. I really appreciate your effort of
having a place to talk about the Vic's.

Brian, This is really great that you have started an interim forum
for us Vic skippers to "chat" and pass on questions and information.
Thanks a bunch. (And I still remember those "unique" pants you wore
on the last day of the San Antonio Vic Nationals.)
Thanks, Denny _/) #814

Hi Skippers
I am still trying to get the original forum resurrected but it does
not apear to be happening, both myself and David Goebel have been
woring with the new ISP support staff, to no avail, so far. Space
and support was being provided as a free service, so support has
suffered.

Try this out - test any and every feature, and please comment.
