Please respond directly to the sellers email address.

Zenith Console 6S556 For Sale $65 (in Cordova Bay..pickup only no ship)
Good cabinet but needs a coat of finish.
Looks to me like its all there except the swivelling antenna
box that fits in the back next to the speaker.
Was purchased for a woodworking project, and a small veneer
repair was done, and done well. Now the face plate, and knobs
need to be put back on (they are all there as far as I could tell)
The finish has been removed but done gently, and it was not sanded.

A nice project for someone who would like to have one of the smaller
6 tube Zenith Consoles. email rdnboylan at shaw dot ca if you are interested.

We have 3 new member and 59 old members. I think it would be interesting to hear
about your collecting interests. Also feel free to ask for advise about old
radios or related items.

I will start: My name is Lee and I started this yahoo group because the was no
radio group on Vancouver Island. Been collecting radios since 1988. I enjoy
meeting other collectors and swapping radios, parts and stories about radios. The
group has grown and we now have members from all parts of Canada and USA.
I guess my favourite radios are 1930's art deco era streamline moderne types,
but I also really like Zenith and Atwater Kent Radios of any age or design. My
most recent restoration was a Zenith Transoceanic Model A600.My goal is to
eventually have all the tube zenith transoceanics. My next project is a Fisher
800-B
So it would be nice if a few of you would chime in here, from the begining
collector with one radio, to the vetern with a basement full of them, we have
all types of members so welcome all.

My name is Matthew, and I have been collecting radios for 2 years now. I have about 40 radios in my collection, ranging in ages of 1928 to 1978. 1928 being a Lyric console, and 1978 being a Toshiba Hi-Fi stereo reciever.
My favorites would be the radios from the '20s, '30s, and '40s. I am currently restoring a RCA Victor X-624 from 1954. It was the first tube radio that I ever bought for my collection. I am really looking forward to listening to some old radio shows on it.
I am really glad that this group has been formed. It is great to interact with people whom share the same interests.

My mentor is Mr. Richard McWhroter, whom some of you may already know (or know about) either from his books or through his YouTube channel. If you haven't yet heard of it, I highly recommed that you do. One sharp feller.

Hi, I'm Keith and I've been a radio listener since the 60s, SWLer and MW DXer
off and on for about 25 years, and a collector for about five years.

My collecting interests are pretty broad, LOL. I have some tabletop tube radios
from the 1950s and 60s, 60s pocket transistors, those big portable multiband
sets from the 70s, SW receivers old and new. Have some old TVs, tape recorders,
and phonographs, too. I like the "real" antique radios from the 20s, 30s and
40s, but for now they're outside my budget.

Hope to come up for one of the in-person meetings in Victoria one of these days
:-).

Regards,

Keith Beesley

A great estate find!

This is a working, 1963 Electrohome Castanet MK II Hi Fi/Stereo AM/FM Phono in a fine wood cabinet.  The unit is in remarkably good condition considering it's age, but could benefit from gentle cleaning.  The phonograph tone arm needs minor adjustment and maybe light lubrication.  I was unable to find any for sale online, so this may be quite a rare unit.  The astounding thing is that this is being offered for free with preference given to someone who will assure to look after it, love it and keep it original.

So here's a unique opportunity to own mid-century modern... maybe design a room makeover around it!

Contact Gordon, at 250 629-3921 on Pender Island if interested.

Sometimes you can get lucky if you place the tubes somewhere cool.  Hold them so you can turn them to look at them without touching the glass.  If you then fog them up with your breath sometimes you can make out the tube number.  A good tube manual and the prongs on the tube base can also make for good detective work.   The filament pins on a particular tube type are usually always the same ones which helps to narrow down what the others are for.  Other than that, you’re SOL.

I've had some success in the past using a good magnifying glass to look for latent ink/paint markings on the tube, turning it at different reflection angles to the light.  Once I do identify a tube type, I write the number on the tube envelope using a fine tipped felt marker.   It lasts quite well. . . . . Hi Lorne,
I'm LOL this is great fun. I have a couple of Hallicrafters 75 pounders. And I
noticed in the formula it multiplies the weight times a factor of 1.15, which
should help.I have added the calculator link to our links page.

Thanks to everyone for attending. Great selection of radios for sale and
displays of show and tell. Fun and educational too. I'm not 100% sure but most
everyone went home with some new toys.
I really love boat anchors and picked up two pieces of Boat Anchor Test
equipment last night at our meeting. Thanks to Keith! A hewlett packard VTVM
model 400L..$5 and a 3" scope in a big heavy metal box only $2. Don't understand
why none of the other attendees were not fighting to get at it? In the summer
its nice because we can spread out all our radios on the ouside tables out
front. Peter O. came all the way from Qualicum. There were about 9 of us in
attendance.. Tom, Keith,Joe, Peter, Ian, Gordon, Alec, Jerry, and me (lee). Hope
I didn't miss anyone. Hope to see you all again next month; we missed a few of
the other regulars (we've had 12 or 13 people show up each time now) hopefully
they'll be back in June.
Good hunting, bring your new treasures to sell or show at the next one!

I have a BC-454-B  WW II aircraft receiver for sale.  Asking $65.  Covers 3.0 – 6.0 mhz.   I purchased this receiver in 1965 less dynamotor and used it from the late 1970’s to early 1980’s as a tunable I.F. behind a crystal controlled converter.  To the best of my knowledge, the receiver has all the original vacuum tubes and components.  Cannot see any evidence of recapping.  The only mod I made was add a gain/volume control and bfo on/off switch as described in QST and CQ magazines.  This receiver was operated using a HV power supply salvaged from an old TV set plus a separate 24 vac transformer for the filament supply.  Have also put this on Used Victoria under electronics/coms/ham with photos.  Please contact me if anyone is interested in this unit.
