We are kids who grew up among the mango, guayaba, tamarindo, and mamone trees, with pumpjacks in our playgrounds. It was summer yearlong in the tropics of Venezuela. Our fathers worked for oil companies like Creole Petroleum Corp., and we lived in camps called Tia Juana, La Salina, and Lagunillas. We also include our friends and schoolmates whose dads worked for other companies such as Mene Grande and the "service" companies, and who lived in nearby Cabimas, Las Morochas, Tamare, and Ciudad Ojeda.
We have expanded over the years by welcoming those from other locations in Venezuela, such as Jusepín, Maturín, Caripito, Quiriquire, Caracas, Amuay, San Tomé, Anaco. Of course, we welcome our Venezuelan friends and classmates from those days!
We've had weekend reunions at hotels, complete with banquet and speakers, and in recent years we've done informal one-day get-togethers. We have also been invited to join the Creole Annuitants Reunions as hijos y hijas, and welcome all our parents to join our group.
