ROSENDAHL APPLAUDS MOVE TO RESTORE
18-HOLE
GOLF COURSE IN WESTCHESTER
Finish to "Three-Holes" Project Anticipated by New Years
LOS ANGELES –Councilmember Bill Rosendahl is cheering an action by
the Board of Airport Commissioners (BOAC) to move forward -- after decades
of controversy and delay -- with restoring three holes to the 15-hole
Westchester Golf Course.
BOAC today approved a long-term lease to Westchester Golf Partners that
adds 23 acres and restores the existing course to an 18-hole
configuration. The project fulfills a promise by Rosendahl that LAX would
return to the community golf course the three holes that were lopped off to
build Westchester Parkway nearly 20 years ago.
"I'm so excited that we are finally moving forward with adding the
three holes to the golf course," Rosendahl said. "This project
is great, great, great for Westchester, and I can't wait for the New Years
ribbon-cutting ceremony."
According to the 10-year lease, which Westchester Golf Partners has an option
to extend by an additional 20 years, the three-holes project must be completed
within 180 days of receiving final environmental clearance and approvals from
the state and federal government. Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has
completed the environmental study and submitted to FAA for final determination.
Many local community residents hope that the restored Westchester Golf Course
will become part of a larger LAX Northside area development that includes parks,
soccer fields, and a revitalized downtown Westchester business district.
Councilmember Rosendahl included the necessary authorizations to begin an LAX
Northside Community Plan in this year's City Budget, and has formally asked the
responsible agencies to begin that process.
Rosendahl said, "My top priority for Westchester is giving those 340 acres
on the LAX Northside back to the community. That will make a real
difference in the lives of local residents, and it will demonstrate that we are
serious about not expanding LAX."
