The Vaseline Glass Club is a Yahoo Group for people interested in Vaseline Glass which is greenish-yellow glass for which the primary coloring agent is Uranium Dioxide. This group is entirely independent from any other groups or organizations devoted to Vaseline Glass collecting.
Vaseline Glass has a rich history, having been originally produced around 1840 in Bohemia (Czechoslovakia) and then being produced in large quantities during the Victorian Era in the UK and the US. In the United States, companies such as Belmont, Boston Sandwich, Dugan, Fenton, Greentown, Hobbs Brockunier, Jefferson, Model Flint, New England Glass, Northwood, US Glass produced a wide variety of table and decorative pieces in Vaseline Glass usually referred to as Canary or Canary Opalescent.
Vaseline Glass production continued during the 1920s with excellent pieces from Fostoria and later in the 1930s from Duncan Miller. During World War II, all production of Vaseline Glass was halted as Uranium Dioxide was prohibited from commercial use by the US Government.
It was the late 1950s until Vaseline Glass production resumed with the introduction of Fenton Cactus and Fostoria Heirloom. In the early 2000s, a number of companies still produce Vaseline Glass, with the most significant production coming from Fenton, Gibson, and Mosser. We welcome new nembers, and encourage you to join!
