Defending Srila Prabhupada
I for one, as a woman, completely agree that there is no case for complaint either in Prabhupada's books or his presence for women. But the point where it starts to matter is where abusers use quotes out of context to bolster their position above the woman. This often leads to a lessening of the spiritual experience the woman is able to experience. read 1996 post for followup.

Gender issues
Krsna has no problem with women, this is enough for me. Srimati Draupadi could whip the entire Kaurava Armies by her glance, but she allows Krsna this fun. Who else in history can think of Krsna to have Him immediately appear. Srimati Sitadevi also lets Rama have his chivalrous fun as well, and teaches her friend, Hanuman, this very thing. Both could destroy Lanka of the waves just by having an opinion on the matter.

Great atheist now believes in god
A British philosophy professor who has been a leading champion of atheism for more than a half-century has changed his mind. He now believes in God more or less based on scientific evidence. -- Humans get deeply set into a particular core belief, due to peers, and association of books, parents, teachers, priests, and so on. We hold on to core beliefs and strongly resist any evidence to the contrary. This is usually because we invest too much of ourselves into it.

How Desperate Are We?
we all get hopeful when reading a good article, but if we are going to do it different, we need to look at WHO wrote it. This does not mean they have to be perfect, no. But they do have to properly understand variegated parts of Prabhupada's "highest" teachings.

Institutionalized Religion from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur
The church that has the best chance of survival in this damned world is that of atheism under the convenient guise of theism. The churches have always proved the staunchest upholders of the grossest form of wordliness from which even the worst of non-ecclesiastical criminals are found to recoil.

Ongoing overall attitude of cooperating
Anyway, I am inspired in this atmosphere, mostly because of the examples of some wonderful Godsisters and brothers here, to practice forebearance and patience, and to even feel compassion when I accidently stumble across a nasty post. How strange our conditions have us behave. How happy we will all be when we are free from our painful lives and pasts as all be when we are free from our painful lives and pasts as we feel the joy of engaging in Krsna's service.

Re: Narottama dasa
George follows in the footsteps of another who did the same "plagarism". The original mahamantra sung by Srila Prabhupada in Thomkins Square is very similar to Woody Guthrie's "This Land is My Land", another title with great meaning now that Srila Prabhupada has purified the song forever by adapting the tune.

Re: Our next generation
I wish my children well, and hope their journey is less difficult than that of their parents, who had to gain control because of the slavery we suffered at the hands of hedonistic society. Their plight is not greater or less than anyone who has come to this science, I wish them all a thorough defeat at the hands of maya (funny, this is what Visnu jnana wished me 35 years ago, and I just remembered)

STORY OF SRI JATAYU, THE VULTURE KING
Sri Jatayu's story is one of causeless devotion, without much concern with the success or failure or other attachments to the result of his works. He simply performed service to the servant, Srimati Sitadevi, of the Supreme Lord Ramachandra. He noticed that such a Pure Lover of the Supreme Lord was placed in a difficult position by one, Ravanasura, who was thinking of himself as divine.

Spoof on 4000 gurus
It is often the mayavada mentality to make ridiculous literal interpretation, instead of extracting the spirit of the instruction. For example, sastras says the Lord is in the heart. But a mayavada person may make ridicule of this tenet by making fun of an image of a Lord in a heart, the walls pumping and bumping Him in the head, bouncing Him around, and He's getting splashed around by the blood circulating in the heart, blood in His eyes, all over His clothes, so on and so on. In a similar way, we can come to so many ridiculous conclusions, when we don't follow our God given common sense.

Stopped at the pearly gates
Krishna das and Ramachandra were such nice devotees, always doing sankirtan and various kinds of devotional service for so many years. They were best of friends. They lived out a long life of seva, and then somehow, they were allowed by Krishna to both leave this world together, at the same time, at a ripe old age.

Uncanny similarities on article on Fascism
Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions. >>comments: Do we joke, choke on this one or what?<<

Unity despite diversity
So the idea of laying aside our deeply-felt standards to embrace unity may seem to be a compromise of our own standards, whereas it may not be. It just may be that we can embrace the next devotee out of cooperation, out of love if you will, out of an attempt to fulfill the purport of Srila Prabhupada's desire to build a society for the benefit of the world. So there are many reasons to strive practically for unity in diversity.

Wanting not to disrespect
The acarya must give the correct path and there is always the distinction between Krishna and maya and between deva and asura. Wisdom is to know these distinctions and to be able to recognize them. Wisdom is also to know one's own position and the limit of one's authority and to respect even those with whom one disagrees, to return good for evil and to be kind to everyone, even one's enemies.

Wired to the max
But the fact is that Krishna has a better Internet than we do. He's got this whole shebang "wired to the max." Krishna can send and retrieve "instant messages" anywhere in the cosmos in a fraction of a nanosecond, a trillion times faster than our cable and phone lines. He's got a website view on every nook and cranny in the material and spiritual world. And His pure devotee in Goloka can log on to "Krishna dot com" and certainly order and direct his bona fide disciples from a trillion miles away. But some so-called gurus think he's dead and incommunicado...
