Hi Tony,
I made myself a small surface grinder using the bottom half of a Dore Westbury
mill & fitted a large toolpost grinder to it. I modified the table to run on
ball races. This enabled me to surface grind the cast iron parts. The finished
surface from the grinder was less than perfect due to small vibration ripples.
So the next stage was to use diamond laps: the ones you use for cutting tool
finishing using paraffin as a lubricant and finally wet and dry paper glued to a
piece of flat wood to get a smooth finish using paraffin as a lubricant. Just
keep doing it until your arms ache and you pass out. My shed seems quite dry but
I used some of the spray on furniture polish it seems to work well.
Regards
Alan
