St. Joseph, Michigan was the site of the latest meeting of the United
Lutheran Mission Association. Representatives from the two member
congregations met last Friday and Saturday to continue the process of
building a mission association.
The two days were spent mainly in working out functional details,
some left over from the initial ULMA meeting last July. The agenda
contained items such as:
* Election of Officers
* Review of Operational Guidelines
* Communications
* Missions
The two days were spent with a committed group of laity and clergy
working together for a common goal. It was a blessing to have such a
team progressing along so smoothly.
The most exciting item was the discussion of Missions. Interested
families from Wisconsin contacted us about our goals. Their search
for a proper Lutheran congregation near their home left them wanting.
The Commission voted unanimously to help start an Independent
Lutheran Mission Congregation in the greater Milwaukee area. A
significant commitment of funding was approved to help begin.
The people near Milwaukee have been contacted. They are excited and
anxious to start the mission. Location selection and advertising will
follow. As the details become available, a news release will be
forthcoming as well as posted on our website.
An informational meeting will also be scheduled in conjunction with
the initial worship service.
Anyone in the Milwaukee area who is interested in knowing more about
this mission, how they can help, or wants to attend services, is
urged to contact the Association.
If your congregation is interested in joining the ULMA to help in
this, and future church missions, please contact us.
We are also interested in hearing from any pastors who wish to be
involved. The frequency of the initial worship services is up to the
Lord. But we are looking for pastors interested to help and those who
may entertain a call from the Mission once it takes off.
The whole ULMA Commission is excited about this opportunity for
service. Pastors and laity alike are looking forward to the mission.
The local flock is anxious for a confessional, Lutheran church to be
established in their midst where the comfort of the Gospel is rightly
preached and the Sacraments administered properly.
If you haven't done so, visit our website where you can review our
ULMA Constitution as well as the "Constitutional Guidelines for
Mission Congregations of the ULMA".
At this time the ULMA consists of two former Lutheran Church-Missouri
Synod Congregations who left to practice pure doctrine.
