Welcome to the Uncleaned Ancient Coins List Group!

This list group will discuss the the methods of cleaning the coins found in the uncleaned ancient coin lots that are sold online. The discussion includes the cleaning and restoration of all ancient coin types, including ancient Roman, ancient Greek, ancient Chinese cash, Islamic, Byzantine, Celtic, and the coins of other non-classical societies.

Group members are encouraged to compare the quality of the various uncleaned coins vendors, and compare notes on how best to clean any particular given lot or type of dirt and encrustation. The group will also discuss uncleaned ancient coins and their sources; contacting metal detectorists and detector clubs in the source countries; how to detect and avoid cherry-picked coin lots; where to buy direct from European detectorists and bypass all the sticky dealers' fingers along the way; methods of cleaning certain types of metals such as bronze, billon, silver, et al; and tips, techniques, and special offers from the "Dealer of the Week."

This group is being run by a few uncleaned coins fanatics who facilitate the discussion as a hobby. The posts are unmoderated (meaning anybody can post at any time), and the topic of discussion is open, as long as it relates to cleaning and restoring ancient coins and small artifacts. We especially encourage questions from newcomers to this fascinating hobby.
