Spin the Wheel: Meet & Greet
Commodore Robert J. Millwood
Commanding Officer
USS Washington NCC-76207
ON: <<Promenade - Deep Space 9>>
"Lieutenant Commander Taryn Akara reporting as ordered Sir," Taryn handed
over the PADD containing her orders. At this point the rest as up to her
new Commanding Officer.
"Thank you Commander," he accepted the PADD.
Taryn nodded briefly, she had completed her official duty by handing over
the PADD containing her orders. "Ičve been assigned as your new Executive
Officer and look forward to serving aboard the Washington."
"Welcome aboard," Millwood answered as he motioned her to join him as the
two began to walk the promenade.
Robert was relieved to have a new Executive Officer, he knew that Commander Rae
was having some family problems back on Trill and was wondering when Star Fleet
would send a replacement. It happened far sooner than he was expecting.
"Commander," he started as they began to circle the Promenade, "I won't mince
words. I run a tight ship. I like when things are orderly, I like when things
run smoothly. I don't tolerate lateness or disobedience. I do things strictly by
the book. You could say that I'm old fashioned that way, but I find that its the
best way to run a starship. Now I'll be frank, I haven't had the best of luck
with Executive Officer aboard the Washington. Most of the time they just can't
seem to handle the responsibilities that I place on them. Do you think you can
handle it?"
"I wouldn't have applied if I didn't think so sir," Taryn responded.
"Good," he responded while they continued to walk. "I'm sure you've heard, but
Starfleet has reduced our crew compliment to 30, so things are going to be
stretched pretty thin for awhile. I need you to make sure the crew is up to the
task. It won't be easy for them, but then again, nothing about Starfleet is
supposed to be easy."
He was about to continue when he saw Crewman Zarr in Quark's Bar. She appeared
to be having a very unpleasant time. She was in tears (that was a first) and she
was screaming at Quark.
"Excuse me one moment," Robert told his new First Officer. He walked over the
Noya and folded his arms. "Noya, what's going on?"
"I'm sorry sir... but I..." She couldn't finish her sentence, she ran out of the
bar embarrassed.
This took the Commodore by surprise. Noya never acted like this, nor had Nurse
Rogers. He looked at Quark who seemed relived to be rid of the cranky Andorian.
Robert pointed a finger at him, "What did you do?"
"Nothing!" Quark said defensively. "She gambled, lost everything, not my fault."
Robert wasn't convinced, "Don't toy with me Quark," he grumbled.
"I swear, I've done nothing!"
Robert frowned and returned to Commander Taryn. He sighed and looked her
straight in the eyes, "Commander, I'm afraid I'm going to need to get you on the
job a little sooner than you may have anticipated."
"What can I do?" she replied.
"Something is just not right... two members of my crew have become gambling
addicts and lost everything in the course of a single day and neither of them
has ever gambled or shown any preference for it before. It's just to damned
peculiar to be a coincidence. Take Crewman Zarr and Nurse Rogers in to get
examined... I wonder if they were drugged."
"Should I go to the station's doctors-"
"-Our Doctors please. You like Lieutenants Trann and Saghani... besides I think
you need a physical to actually join the Washington officially. SO get to it!"
