Just wanted to let you know that I talked w/Barry Pessin this morning
at morning minyan (services) and he said that both he & wife, Carol
(Spetner) are looking forward to attending the reunion.
So I told him to just go ahead and sign onto the reunion website and
then come to this website, but dunno if that will happen any time soon!
I'm just glad that the reunion is NOT over Labor Day weekend.
Hope everyone's having a good weekend,
Sydney
Max,
ALL.
It cracks me up how these people come online, and post message, Mark w. Jay s. Alvin G. , Gary C.
Hey, you guys? We're supposed to be a reunion family. IT'S OK to use real names so the retarded amongst us, know whom you are and whom you are speaking of.
In any event, if you prefer using initials, then YOU WILL KNOW, and we will not.
It cracks me up how some post.
USE Real names so we know what the heck you are talking about.
It's 85 in L.A.
I'm Out.

just thought I would fill you in on a little of my live. I hung out
with Robbie H,Rich H,Jim H,Dave M, Jaryl A. and the late Doug F. I'm
married to linda from SW highschool for 39 yrs. I've worked for
Chrysler in Fenton,Mo. for 35 yrs. and I'm retired and loving it. I
have 2 boys Kelly and Matt who both went to Ucity, and 2 grand kids . I
live in the same house I did when I went to Ucity and my farm in SE
Mo. when I what some peace. Hope to see everyone at the reunion.
Thought I'd give a lil' update on where I've been, etc., since high
school... 40 years ago!! Wow, that makes me feel old, just saying 40
years ago!!!!
Went to college for a few years after graduating from U.City H.S.,
but wasn't inspired enough by what was offered to do much with that,
so after working a few years, I left to make aliyah in 1972 (to
Israel) - you see where that took me, right?? Right back to St.
Louis, but then again, I did live there for THREE years!!!
I started out at an ulpan (Borochov in Givatyim) learning Hebrew for
5 months, then lived on Kibbutz Einat, near Petah Tikva - which is
near Tel Aviv... Met a Kibbutznik (an Israeli boy) in 1973, a year
later, in 1974, we were married, a year later we had a lil' girl
(Galia, who's going to be 31 next week), and stayed there until Nov.,
1975, leaving Israel and come to St. Louis.
Three years later, in 1978, Naomi was born (she's 27 now). Needless
to say after almost 18 years, I realized that we made better friends
than spouses, so I divorced him and he still lives in St. Louis....
as I tell my friends, he lives in the Jewish town of Affton. LOL
Galia went to London to get her Masters and has an Arts Management
degree that she'd like to use in L.A., while Naomi is in the
education field (teaching). They live (together) in L.A. now (North
Hollywood, that is. Thank goodness for the Internet, tho' I think
the post office people are getting to know me just a lil' bit too
much! lol
Getting back to me, in 2002, I joined Shaare Zedek Synagogue and then
in August 2004, I had my adult bat mitzvah, never having had it as a
young girl. Tho' I still have a lot to learn, but now I can lead
(daven) mincha and maariv services - we are an egalitarian
conservative synagogue - and I'm in U.City now, as is S.Z.
IT was funny when I first walked into S.Z. one Shabbat morning, I saw
a few U.City faces that I remembered from U.City high, like Paul
DuBro (tho' he finished his senior year somewhere else), Barry
Pessin, Carol Spetner (now Pessin), Alan Schwartz, and a few others.
What a small world, heh!
If you were in St. Louis, I'd invite you to attend the Purim Spiel,
March 13th to see me make a fool of myself (smile) as I'm in the
Purim Spiel once again (was in it in 2002, too). But maybe you're
better off NOT being here to see this event!!! lol This year it's
the Motown Spiel!!!
More to follow at another time, but guess for now, I've rattled on
long enough!
Have a good evening all,
Sydney
Jerry Cohen, Rich Hiebenheimer, Jim Harrell…Dave M--Masingill?
Robbie, was it hard being a “goy”
in U. City?
I was curious on how many would respond. A little
background from U. City school days I hang out with Jerry C.,Rich
H.,Dave M.,Jim H.,and others who will remain unknown until the proper
time. After High School went to Jr. collage, flunk that because lack of
discpline ,married Barb Bevers and had two sons. Spent 4 yrs. in the
U.S.N. ,became a Shellback and Order of Magellen[only Navy vets. will know
the meaning].Divorced in 76. Worked until Feb. 2001 and retired to Florida in Nov.2001.Lived on our 42'Chris Craft with my current wife. We
moved back on dirt in 2003 as all our liveaboard friends would say.
Thats a condense life history. Hopefully the reunion will have a good
turnout and hope to see you all there.

Farley, don't get in a tizzy (or whatever it's called)
:)
I only meant that you should POST there that the
UCITY Class of '66 has a reunion website of its own and that people
should come HERE to post stuff... I'm not signing up for it... but I do
check it every so often to see who's posting there... and people are
asking about the '66 reunion!!!!
And I'm NOT paying for anything - so I'll just
continue to come here & post - :)
OK, Farley??? :)
And I'm glad YOU remember me... I'm sure after I
look at your pic (do you have one posted on your website?) I'll
remember you!!!

I hope to have a lot more stuff up on the
website this weekend.
If you each have any pictures, old or new,
and you post them on the Yahoo site, maybe you could also send a copy, or some different
ones, to me, ok, and I’ll put them on the city66.com website?
Now that we’re all here, what else
should we talk about?

Just curious but why haven't you guys posted on classmates.com (it's
free to post now, btw) about the REUNION.... there's nothing there at
all about it and tho' I did post something about it the other day, it
would be outrageous, I think, if both or one of you would post there
about where to sign up, if they, like I, didn't receive a post card,
and then to tell them about THIS site, so they can post here, too!
And did you know that YOU can do CHAT here????
On the left-hand side there is the word CHAT, right up there before
FILES, so if there's enough people online at any given time, you can
click on that and go into a chat room of sorts & just banter back-and-
forth!!!!
Anywayz, just a few more thoughts from lil' ol' me!!!!
And another reason why you probably don't remember me is because like
I said in my first post, I was pretty quiet back then... hung around
mostly w/Theresa Doyle, whom I heard passed away several years ago
and w/Evelyn Mendel.
But I think there was ONLY one Sydney, and that was ME!!! :)
If I get up enough courage - gimme a few weeks - or months, perhaps -
I might post a picture!!! lol
I do have one of Marty Hendin and myself and Alan Schwartz, when
Marty came to my synagogue (Shaare Zedek) a few weeks ago!!! But I'm
not too keen on my photo being taken; I like more taking them!! lol
And I will check with Carol Spetner Pessin & Barry Pessin this
weekend, if I see either of them, because they're also members of
S.Z. I noticed on the UCity66 website that they are considered M.I.A.
Anywayz, hope y'all have a good day!!!
Sydney
I'm trying to control my laughter after having read your post, cuz my
REAL name is & was & will always be SYDNEY!!!!! lol
But I hafta admit, I sure don't remember anyone named Farley, so I
guess we're even - tho' I guess I could look you up in my '66
yearbook, tho' it did get waterspots on it over the years!!!!
Yea, that's what I'll do...
The only reason I said that some of my friends call me Kitty is cuz
when I was on a local bulletin board here in St. Louis (AFFINITY
BBS), my user ID was Kitty1106 (my birthdate included in my user
ID), so that still sticks w/a lotta my friends, but my ol' classmates
would always call me SYDNEY, or would try to sneak in "SYD" to which
I would always tell them that if they wanted to continue to be my
friends, they should start tryin' to remember that my name is SYDNEY,
not SYD!!! LOL
So I go by either Sydney, Kitty, or even (in my Shul) TAMAR MIRIAM,
but that's only when I'm on the bimah!!
OK, now for the rest of the posts!
And thank you for the welcome.
I meant to add to my post last night that I do remember MAX, but I
bet he doesn't remember me or my name!
OH, and my maiden name was DIAMOND - u see I was a real *GEM* - :)

I don’t know whether you heard, but
I’m going to (maybe even this week-end) e-mailing all our classmates
personally and telling them about your (our) Yahoo “chat” (I know
it’s not actually a chat, though it’s interactive) page. If you can
hold on till then, I mean, don’t do anything TOO desperate, then it might
get better.
I’m trying to make the website interactive,
too. Have a few pictures up now and one person’s (Mike Finkelstein) questionnaire
reply about his life, family, etc. Ken’s going to send me the 40 or so
that have come back, and, once we get permission, I
guess, I’ll post them all publicly.

share, my attitude is great, I'm in great health at 57, I love you all,
even though I secretly hate some of you, and in any event, the
thought of seeing any of you, is sort of Twilight Zonish. Kudo's for
SYDNEY, whom I 'think' I remember a Sydney, from class for
coming out of the woods and showing herself, even though she didn't get a
card. It's a good thing I'm in constant touch all these years with
DAVID STRAUSS in the Marshall Islands, and Gary Bernath, "Lost in

clue about this reunion. As Mr. Rock once said in Typing Class,
"Farley, I never knew anyone who could type as fast as you (60wpm back
then, 90wpm maybe now, who knows?" My response of course was,
"Well, Mr. Rock, you know I am Superman, right?" So, everytime someone posts a message, I get
aroused, so THRILL ME? OK? Have a nice Day everyone, and may God Bless you in
your dreams and goals. FARLEY MALORRUS "CLASS CLOWN" P.S. I heard from Larry Maneson who called me the
other day, and found out Lauren Hilch was "missing in
action," somewhere. He also thanked me for being able to meet 'his wife,' at
the Swimming pool we had on Jeanerette, I believe the summer of 64, or
something like that. Yeah, Frank Speilberg and I were the only
one's with Pools. I'd love to know who was POOL HOPPING all the time, as
we had frequent midnight swims, from pranksters that I loved to
watch. Any Admissions? Hope you are all not brain dead, as I was getting
curious about all this. Later.
I know this sounds so heavy-handed of them it's almost unbelievable,
but a few weeks ago on the "Prairie Home Companion", the Purdue
University Glee Club sang Purdue's Alma Mater...and you know what?
They stole ours!
That's a hell of a thing, that a big university would heist a little,
suburban high school's school song! Hell, Hoagy
Carmichael was from Indiana.
They could have commissioned him to write
them a song!
If there are any lawyers among our classmates, maybe one of them could
take this on pro bono, and we could make a big
contribution to our old school!
I ain’ttalkin’ about that, but I will admit to some of the
pool-hopping! I don’t know if we did yours or not. Usually it was Ladue.
I hope yours wasn’t the one…never mind. It was Eliot Kalmes!

Your old bud.
Farley Malorrus "Class Clown"
I'm probably one of the few (or many) who did NOT receive a postcard,
but did know someone who did - and so after having seen the postcard, I
went to the website and signed up, so that I would be informed of
what's going on.....
So here I am now saying HI to everyone!
Back in high school, I was one of the more quieter kids on the block -
smile, so you may not even remember me.
I did go to my 10th year and 20th year reunion, but missed out on the
30th, so am really looking forward to my 40th (makes ya feel old, huh?)!
One really weird but interesting thing that happened to me after my
20th was that I was on the Sally Jesse Raphael Show (while she was
still broadcasting in St. Louis) - it was a REUNION show and so I went
w/another friend (Trudy), who was from class of '67 or '68.
During the course of the program, Sally was saying that we all have
changed to some degree and I whispered to my friend, "We sure have,
especially from neck on down."
All-of-a-sudden, Sally turns towards the part of the audience where I
was sitting and asks, "Who said that?" And Trudy points to me, and
says, "SHE DID!"
Well, I could have died - I was so embarrassed at that point, but Sally
asked me to stand and elaborate on my comment, so I did.... and caught
it all on tape, as I knew ahead of time that we were going to be on a
live taping that day, so I preset my VCR to tape the show!!!!
Anyway, just thought that would be a good enough story to relay & to re-
introduce myself!
Some of my friends call me Kitty (cuz I used to have cats); others call
me Sydney - I answer to both (smile). I am divorced now, have two
daughters who are living now in L.A. (CA).
I'm not sure what else to tell you about me, but look forward to
reacquainting here and at the reunion.
Sydney, living in U.City once again :)
THE ENGLISH TEACHER
1. Ninth Grade
Mr. Clipner believed in me.
He said I didn't need his course,
sent me into a vacant classroom
to write a 'teenage sports novel'.
I failed because this was
'pre-girl friend'. I was
far too inhibited
to write the romantic scenes
all such novels had.
2. Tenth Grade
She would speak about 'the good life'
as she doused her hands each morning
with rose water from a bottle on her desk.
She lived that life. I didn't, but at least
now I knew there was such a thing!
One day she showed a slightly wacky side,
lecturing about 'the terrible American slang',
using as examples, the words 'boyfriend' and 'date'.
We gave one another funny looks—
those words weren't slang!
When we heard she'd waited years
for her lover, in Korea,
who never came home,
our hearts softened again.
3. Twelfth Grade
She had the nerve
to ask me to copy
three sentences a day
off the blackboard,
like the others!
I refused.
My English classes
had always been A.P.
She just smiled,
and gave me a 'B'.
A 'B' in English,
for me, was like an 'F'.

In case you're looking for the poem I said I'd post as a REPLY to my
other message, it wouldn't accept that post, for some reason. Look a
few posts down. Its title is "Questions, Looking Back".

QUESTIONS, LOOKING BACK
Why did we do all that? What were we looking for,
when we stood conspicuously outside our cars on summer nights
in our madras shirts, white levis and loafers without socks
along the parking diagonals in the median lane of Balson Avenue
in front of the high school that indentured us most of the year?
Why did we drive in my convertible chasing endless rumors of girls
or midnight idylls in forbidden swimming pools that lapped in
affluent backyards, air conditioners humming like the breath of
their sleeping owners?
Why did I hate the Marquees, who appeared to have real girls and
newer cars and to strut, not walk, in the eternal parade through our
daytime high school halls?
Why did the world wait to come alive until it had drowned in Night
and only our headlights could show us the way?
Why did I feel my blood beating, suddenly, an inclusive rhythm
the night that gang of paroled convicts who called themselves
the '69ers' came out of hell with chains to beat people up, and a
guy
from our football team whose name I can't remember now
screamed "Lemme at `em! " and dove into their open car window,
or the night—this was before we were even old enough to drive—
when muscular, blonde Huns, no more than 18, but looking huge to us,
came screaming out of nowhere as we talked and strolled
through Heman Park at 3 AM, chasing us as we ran for our lives
a block beyond the other side of the park, all the way up to
Stanley's front porch, where we woke his dad,
or in those forbidden, backyard swimming pools when a light went on
in the house and we had to flee, and someone always did a last
cannonball to roil the water?
What combination of deadened lives and genuine yearnings
twisted around one another to open those gates of Night —
and where can I find such unlimited pastures today?

Hey Folks, This is Farley Malorrus in Sunny Southern California again.
We need to get this BOARD rocking and breathing. I know you are busy,
but here are some tips. WE ALL WANT TO SEE YOUR WEBSITES and current
photos! Please click on LINKS to the left and POST YOUR WEBSITE. Also,
Please click on PHOTOS to the left and upload YOUR CURRENT PHOTO SO we
can see what you look like at 57/58, some perhaps like the living dead,
eh? Also, DON'T Forget to fill our your questionaires for KEN
BIRENBAUM, at www.ucity66.com, so they can organize the Information
book on the survivors from this class. IN case most didn't know,
Elliott Kalmes passed away, but he is on the list, so someone should
memorialize him. I'm sure a bunch others passed away, but I'm not sure
who (Malevan? Just kidding)(hope not!).
That's the latest from Tinseltown, now get on your horse, and do
something. Hey, Max, Post your LInk so we can see your site.
I'm out.
Nice weekend all.
Farley Malorrus
aka BISHOP
for gettin' the ball rollin'.
I'm now in Walnut Creek, CA, which is across the bay from SF.
I have a few poems and one short story about U. City. Was hoping I
could read something at the reunion, but maybe it'll help here to get
thing goin'. So I'll post one poem today. Other writers, thinkers,
talkers, I'm looking forward to your reminiscences, and more!
Love to all,
Max Reif
(ps: for anyone interested, I have an extensive website,
www.REALnothings.com. There are a few things there with U. City
content, as well as things like the HALL OF FAMOUS JOKES, that I hope
everyone will enjoy.)
Come to think of it, I'll post the first poem--a bit long--as a REPLY
to this message!
Dear Class of 66,
This is Farley Malorrus, in Los Angeles, California (and West Union,
South Carolina). I just got the Post Card for the Reunion, which I
assume you all got too, (if you are still alive). I Suggest you go to
our site, www.ucity66.com and fill out your questionairre, let us
know you are alive and well, send Ken Birenbaum a photo, register
with Yahoo, and post something here, and consider showing up with
your grey or dyed hair, (if any) for the reunion in September. If we
get enough response, it may secure myself and many other out of state
folks coming in. My buddy Dave Strauss in the Marshall Islands may
even break a leg and fly in. I'm in L.A. now, so if you need me,
email me at bestactor@...; or call me at 310-415-9222, if you
wish to say hello. I filled out a detailed questionairre for them, so
it could be entertaining for all> I say spill the beans, it's too
late now. I'm hoping my other life long friend from U. City and AePi,
Gary Bernath will log in here too. As far as I know Mike Malevan is
missing in action, and I say, so be it! Regards to Steve Bierman,
Gail Goldstein, Linda Framer, Richard Schainker,Steve Finklestein,
Larry Kanefield, Mel Martin, Max Reif, Ken Bierenbaum, and many other
masses of people I know and love. I was sad to hear about Elliott
Kalmes, but may he rest in peace. So, let's wake up this message
board, website, and chat room, and pretend like we know each other.
If you need help, call me or write me, or call Ken as he appears to
be collecting data, as usual, like a typical Cyborg. Good job Ken.
Regards from Sunny Southern California. Hope to see you at the
reunion.
