We Manifest... Strength through Overstanding, Guidance through Faith,
Cooperation through Unity & Peace thrugh the Arts!
The We Manifest~o © 7/97

In May of 1999, We Manifest, Inc. created a series called “DAWTAHZ” - ‘Directing
Artistic Womben Towards Aesthetic Horizons ~ Zenith!’ (The height we strive to
reach.) DAWTAHZ features independent, mostly unsigned, multi-lingual,
multi-talented, multi-ethnic female performers. It was created to encourage
womben to perform because our male counterparts dominate most showcases and most
of the performing female images that are heavily publicized in the media reflect
a man’s idea of what and how a womben should be. This forum successfully allows
featured sisters to speak their minds, free their souls, be seen and be heard
without a masculine influence. A female DJ/producer provides the musical treats,
while a female performing artist produces and hosts the series - to represent
the Yin energies correctly. An open mic segment follows for all to participate.

Since it’s inception, the DAWTAHZ series has set the mark for giving love,
shine, support and promotion to incredible female performers, including
Sporadic, Deborah Bond & Afi (B-Girl Manifesto/DC); VAL-Inc, Apani (Q-Boro
Sounds, Inc.); Kte Elevitch (Kte Creator Music); Shelley Nicole’s BlaKbushe;
Anteenukes (comedienne); BaSheBa Earth (Archetype Records/Urban EarthDJ Jaclyn
(The Bangers/SupMag); Big Tara & Invincible (Anomolies Crew); Mystic, Maat Ra, &
DJ Boom Bip (ATL) & Stahhr The Femcee (ATL); KiKi Breevlife (RAW EARTH/Boston);
Moikgantsi Kgama (ImageNation); Omega Moon (Native A.L.E.IN Records); AtPeace
(@Peace Prods/RI); Ayanna Soyini (Goldeneyes Entertainment); Yumika Parsley
(Studio Parsley/Japan); Tiye Pheonix (Rawkus recording artist); Tantra & Fisiwe
(Precious Gift); Makeba Mooncycle; Kymbali (Playback NYC); Rozz Nas (Red Lotus),
Dawn Crandell (Dawnsmind Prods.), Fish Eye (W.E.R.I.S.E./Agua Lengua); DJ Mocha
Sunflower; DJ Selly (Ubiquita NYC), and most recently, SohPhocused, T. Carter,
Peia, House-diva Krystine Walker, and Nemiss, to name a few...

The DAWTAHZ series continues to create a forum for exposure and self-expression
for womben. Men have given testimony to the love and beautiful energy the series
brings. Each showcase has received overwhelming praise for blessing its audience
with a vibration, incomparable to many other showcases, while giving a warm
welcome to a plethora of performance genres and ethnicities in attendance on and
off the stage.

DAWTAHZ has blessed the stages of the Elbow Room, S.O.B.’s, Baby Jupiter,
Nuyorican Poets Café, Stinger Bar, Baggot Inn, CB’s Gallery, Lion’s Den, Goga
Café, Caviar Studios, now known as Reign and recently, Sputnik in NYC. The
series received mad love at the International Artist Guild in Atlanta, Georgia,
King Solomon’s Mines of Ras Tafari in Chicago, Illinois and Sweet Black Coffee
in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The series has spawned new projects, including the
first compilation, DAWTAHZ for the 21st Century Volume I. (2002); the first
DAWTAHZ LIVE CD to be released winter 2008; a documentary in production; and
more showcases being scheduled for the US and abroad. DVDs are on the way...

The Biggest Rally in ALASKAN history...

The Alaska Women: Reject Palin Rally was to be held outside on the lawn in front
of the Loussac Library in midtown Anchorage. Home made signs were encouraged,
and the idea was to make a statement that Sarah Palin does not speak for all
Alaska women, or men. I had no idea what to expect. The rally was organized by
a small group of women, talking over coffee. It made me wonder what other
things have started with small groups of women talking over coffee. It's
probably an impressive list. These women hatched the plan, printed up flyers,
posted them around town, and sent notices to local media outlets.

One of those media outlets was KBYR radio, home of Eddie Burke, a long-time
uber-conservative Anchorage talk show host. Turns out that Eddie Burke not only
announced the rally, but called the people who planned to attend the rally 'a
bunch of socialist baby-killing maggots,' and read the home phone numbers of the
organizers aloud over the air, urging listeners to call and tell them what they
thought. The women, of course, received some nasty, harassing and threatening
messages.
I felt a bit apprehensive. I'd been disappointed before by the turnout at other
rallies. Basically, in Anchorage, if you can get 25 people to show up at an
event, it's a success. So, I thought to myself, if we can actually get 100
people there that aren't sent by Eddie Burke, we'll be doing good. A real
statement will have been made. I confess, I still had a mental image of 15
demonstrators surrounded by hundreds of menacing 'socialist baby-killing maggot'
haters.
It's a good thing I wasn't tailgating when I saw the crowd in front of the
library or I would have ended up in somebody's trunk. When I got there, about
20 minutes early, the line of sign wavers stretched the full length of the
library grounds, along the edge of the road, 6 or 7 people deep! I could hardly
find a place to park. I nabbed one of the last spots in the library lot, and as
I got out of the car and started walking, people seemed to join in from every
direction, carrying signs.
Never, have I seen anything like it in my 17 and a half years living in
Anchorage. The organizers had someone walk the rally with a counter, and they
clicked off well over 1400 people (not including the 90 counter-demonstrators).
This was the biggest political rally ever, in the history of the state. I was
absolutely stunned. The second most amazing thing is how many people honked and
gave the thumbs up as they drove by. And even those that didn't honk looked
wide-eyed and awe-struck at the huge crowd that was growing by the minute. This
just doesn't happen here.
Then, the infamous Eddie Burke showed up. He tried to talk to the media, and
was instantly surrounded by a group of 20 people who started shouting O-BA-MA so
loud he couldn't be heard. Then passing cars started honking in a rhythmic
pattern of 3, like the Obama chant, while the crowd cheered, hooted and waved
their signs high. So, if you've been doing the math… Yes. The Alaska Women
Reject Palin rally was significantly bigger than Palin's rally that got all the
national media coverage! So take heart, sit back, and enjoy the photo gallery.
Feel free to spread the pictures around to anyone who needs to know that Sarah
Palin most definitely does not speak for all Alaskans. The citizens of Alaska,
who know her best, have things to say.

A bunch of pictures of that rally:

THIRD:

The story is all over Progressive Talk Radio today about the MCain campaign
sending absentee ballot applications to registered democrats or people that have
donated to Obama's camapign. These ballots are dilberately misleading and have
postage paid return addresses that are for an election clerk that is outside of
your city or town. What this will end up doing is either having your vote not
counted, or if you return one of these, they will cite you for election fraud,
saying that you already voted absentee. These ballots are only being sent out in
'purple states' and this is a big deal.. This is called voter caging, and is a
huge problem. The McCain campaign is stealing this election as we speak. Please
get this information out to as many people as you can ,and tell anyone you know
who has received one of these ballots that they need to contact their city
election clerk or the supervisor of elections immediately. Also call the local
media and let them know what is going on. The main stream media is never going
to cover this so we have to depend on our ground campaign to get the word out to
our voters.

FOURTH:

Vote Now on PBS - HURRYHere is a small thing you can do in two clicks – SECONDS!
Check this out please and fast. The Right is having people vote that Palin is
qualified…Let's turn this around!!! PBS has a poll that asks: Is Sarah Palin
qualified to be VP? Let's turn this around..... You don't have to give your name
or email address in order to vote. It's very simple.
Here's the link: http://www.pbs.org/now/polls/poll-435.html

Just click & vote… NOW. PASS IT ALONG!!!

FIFTH:

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight...

* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic,
   different.'

* Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, and you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and be President of the Law Review,
    and you are unstable.

* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a community organizer, create a voter registration
drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional
Law
professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over
750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human
Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a
state of 13 a million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the
Foreign
Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you
don't have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6
years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the
governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become
the country's second highest ranking executive.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2
beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real
Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your
disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper
use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other
option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen
daughter ends up pregnant , you're very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a
prestigious
law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave
that
up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

* If your husband is nicknamed 'First Dude', with at least one DUI conviction
and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was
a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your
family is extremely admirable.

OK, it's all much clearer now. Jack Weingarten

On the eve of June 6, 2008, my brother, Isus Thompson was severely beaten and
arrested in Queens, NY.

Following the NYPD¹s brutal attack Isus began vomiting and was non-responsive.
Isus was then brought to the emergency room at Elmhurst Hospital in an ambulance
and on a stretcher; the officers told the hospital that Isus swallowed a bottle
of pills.

The Hospital's toxicology reports have no trace of any type of pills. Isus had a
severe head laceration, was non-responsive & semi-catatonic.

My family had no knowledge of this incident until June 11, 2008 (5 days later).

When I first saw Isus he couldn't verbalize or write his responses and could not
walk. Isus has been under police custody and moved in/out of hospitals since the
night of his arrest.

The NYPD is alleging that my brother is guilty of many ridiculous charges; one a
Class A felony in order to try and justify this brutal attack by over 10 plain &
uniformed officers.

Isus has suffered irreparable harm, lasting physical & psychological trauma and
injury.

In order to assist with legal fees and mandatory health care for his ultimate
freedom a benefit concert is being presented to raise funds for the current and
upcoming struggle with NYPD and the Queens assistant district attorney.

All of the artists, musicians, venues, restaurants and DJ¹s participating in
this event have generously donated their time & services for Isus.

I pray you can attend this event or make a contribution for his defense fund.

How many times will our sons be beat in the streets before the NYPD stops their
war on black men?!!!

NY RADIO SHOW MAKES HISTORY AGAIN
Intelligent Hip Hop radio has longevity in a fickle media environment.

FREEPORT, NY (April 11, 2008) - Even in a media marketplace where
less-than-stellar lyrics, mediocre production and a High School photo
ID often combine to turn Hip Hop hopefuls into household names, the
machine's veneer can gradually come down. That's the mindset that has
evolved over the past decade for one Hip Hop radio show. Today marks
the 10th anniversary for OFF THE TOP. In celebration, the producers
of the show, PAZ PRODUCTIONS have a full pallet of events in store.

Ironically the show's generally out-spoken Host and Executive
Producer, Curry Kid, is being uncharacteristically quiet. "Fam, just
keep your third eye and both ears on the show." He would repeat
whenever we would ask him to expound on the surprise guests and `best
of' style moments that are peppering the month-long on-air celebration
that the show has embarked upon.

In the midst of the excitement other members of the P Square camp have
assured us that current OTTR staples like: the OFF THE TOP 5,
(countdown to the pinacle of the
OFF THE TOP 20), Kickin' It With The Queen (discussion of love and
relationship advice), Question of The Week (listener-fueled discussion
of issues of the day), PAZitive Jam of The Week (show concluding
progressive musical selection), syndicated commentary segments (about
politics and health) and Curry Spyce will remain in place. However
word is that an announcement is planned for the O Express (the show's
weekly olde skool time capsule) and one staffer sneared that they may
not get to all of the other 15 songs comprising the OTT 20.

Starting as a one-hour-a-week underground rap show in the spring of 1998,
OFF THE TOP, not unlike the kulture it celebrates, has defied the odds
and grown over the years. Currently a family of programs, the
original OFF THE TOP Show can be heard in it's entirety Saturday
nights (aka Sunday mornings) from Midnight-6AM on
OFF THE TOP Radio.com, AM1240 WGBB.com and in the Nassau/Suffolk and
NY radio markets on 1240 WGBB. Portions of the program are podcast
and re-broadcast as part of the OFF THE TOP Snipe Tape Series (Monday,
Tuesday and Thursday nights at 11PM). As well PAZ PRODUCTIONS has
partnered Curry with WGBB's Program Director for a weekly discussion
of issues of the day, that program is called
OFF THE TOP Radio Extra. It airs live on Sunday mornings (immediately
following OTTR at 6AM) and is re-broadcast several times through out
the week. Check the WGBB site for exact times. Check the OFF THE TOP
site for more information. All times are in the Eastern Time Zone.

DARE is a Hip Hop bible that was scribed by the goddess Abiola Abrams.
It is about a young woman named Maya who takes destiny into her own hands as she
pursues a career as rap artist. The author depicts the drastic transformation an
artist undertakes in order to excel in the music industry. Abrams shows the
visible and invisible scars that the artist carries and candidly gives an inside
scoop on areas of the Hip Hop industry that are hardly spoken of.

DARE is a book about courage, faith, deception, sexism, drugs, gun play,
suspense, banging lyrics, male and female posturing, materialism vs. the
simplicity of life. DARE has more twists than a roller coaster and has jewels
for everyone. This book is banging and the trigger never gets jammed!

Sadly, This Is Not A Joke

Hillary and Bill

This is disgusting! This is really disgusting...be sure to read it
all...

If Hillary wins in 2008 and Bill is 'appointed' to fill her Senate
seat and
either live to retire 'they' (together or alone) would get two US
Presidential retirement checks, two US Senate retirement checks, and
a
retirement check from the State of Arkansas . About the only thing
they
MIGHT NOT get is a Social Security check....but I wouldn't bet on
it....

I understand ole Bill has earned $40,000,000 in the past six years.

What a guy!
AND THE REST OF THE STORY... Hilarious Rotten Clinton, as a New
York State
Senator, now comes under the 'Congressional Retirement and Staffing
Plan,'
which means that even if she never gets reelected, she STILL
receives her
Congressional salary until she dies. (Would it not be nice if all
Americans
were pension eligible after only 4 years?)

If Bill outlives her, he then inherits HER salary until HE dies. He
is
already getting his Presidential salary until he dies. If Hillary
outlives
Bill, she also gets HIS salary until she dies. Guess who pays for
that?

It's common knowledge that in order for her to establish NY
residency, they
purchased a million dollar-plus house in upscale Chappaqua, New
York.
Makes sense!
(and lets not forget that they furnished this house with items
stolen from the White House on they day they moved out !!!)

They are entitled to Secret Service protection for life.

Still makes sense.

Here is where it becomes interesting: Their mortgage payments hover
at
around $10,000 per month. BUT, an extra residence 'had' to be built
within
the acreage to house the Secret Service agents.

The Clintons charge the Federal government $10,000 monthly rent
for the
use of that extra residence, which is about equal to their mortgage
payment. This means that we, the taxpayers, are paying the Clinton's
salary, mortgage, transportation, safety and security, as well as the
salaries for their 12 man staff -- and, this is all perfectly legal!

As she runs for President, will YOU vote for her?

How many people can YOU send this to?

Police Shooting of Mother and Infant
Stirs Racial Tension in Ohio Town

(Taylor Media Services) The questions being raised by Black
residents of Lima, Ohio are simple and direct:

Why did the police shoot and kill 26-year-old Tarika Wilson and
wound the 14-month-old infant she was holding in her arms?

The incident took place nearly a month ago but authorities are
providing few answers. But during a recent demonstration, 200
protesting residents restated their demand for Truth and Justice.

However, all that is currently known is that members of a SWAT team
suspected Wilson's boyfriend, Anthony Terry, of selling drugs from
Wilson's rented house. Then on the evening of January 4th, according
to neighbors, they bashed in the front door with guns drawn and
somehow ended up shooting and killing Wilson as she stood in shock
holding her 14-month-old son Sincere.

There have been no reports that Wilson in any way threatened the
officers and no attempt to explain the shooting of the infant.

Thus far one officer (the alleged shooter) has been placed
on paid administrative leave.

Ohio reporter Vickie Shurelds tells the National Black News Journal
that regional NAACP leaders and a legal representative from the
national NAACP office met this past Thursday night to plot actions
and demand answers.

Lima's Black residents have long accused local police of being
racist and treating all Blacks as if they are to be feared.

Wilson neighbor, 56-year-old Junior Cook, told theNew York Times,

The cops in Lima are racist like no tomorrow. Why else would you
shoot a mother with a baby in her arms?

Rasta roots explored in rare U.S. exhibition
Published on Thursday, November 15, 2007

WASHINGTON, USA (AFP) — An unprecedented year-long
exhibition at the prestigious Smithsonian Institute
aims to demystify the mystique of Rastafarism
exploring the roots of what has become a global
emerging religion.

"Rastafarism has never been in any major museum," said
Jake Homiak, curator of the exhibition "Discovering
Rastafari" which runs until November 2008 at the
institute's National Museum of Natural History.

The movement traces its origins to the 1930s and the
teachings of the Jamaican black nationalist leader
Marcus Garvey, viewed as a Rasta prophet who advocated
that the African diaspora should reclaim Africa from
the colonizers.

The movement came to believe that former Ethiopian
emperor Haile Selassie, as the only monarch of a truly
independent African nation, was god and that Ethiopia
is the Biblical promised land.

Rastafarism, with its resistance to colonialism and
racism, is at once a philosophy, a religion and a way
of life, which grew in international popularity
largely thanks to the music of Jamaican reggae legend
Bob Marley.

It is "an emergent global religion spread by the
diaspora," said Homiak, adding "it's all over the
world now."

The Simthsonian asked 17 Rastafarian elders to act as
advisors to the small exhibition which draws on the
museum's archives as well as items the leaders donated
to the institute.

It includes artifacts, ritual objects, clothing and
drums as well as rare photos and newspapers from the
early days of the movement, recounting the coronation
of Haile Selassie as well as his visit to Jamaica in
1966.

Other exhibits include original shares sold by Garvey
for his "Black Star Line" a shipping company conceived
as part of his back-to-Africa project but which went
bankrupt shortly after being launched.

"We are excited to bring aspects of this fascinating
yet often misunderstood cultural movement to the
public," said the Natural History museum's acting
director Paul Risser.

The exhibition however remains discreet on the
Rastafarian use of cannabis, merely stating that
"ganja is used for reasoning."

The name Rastafarian came from the word "Ras" for
chief and "Tafari," the first name of the Haile
Selassie before he was crowned king.

Today Rastafarism is practiced not just in Jamaica,
but also in Europe, Latin America, Africa and Japan,
Homiak added.

Five arrested for Lucky Dube's murder
.

Johannesburg, South Africa

21 October 2007 11:22

http://www.luckydubemusic.com

Five men were arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder of
reggae star Lucky Dube, East Rand police said.

Police arrested the five, aged between 31 and 35, in Spruitview on
the East Rand on Sunday morning.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Eugene Opperman said police
seized two stolen handguns and a VW Polo.

"Police also recovered three other stolen vehicles during the
investigation this morning [Sunday]," he said.

The five are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's
Court on Tuesday.

Opperman said: "The initial police reports regarding the murder
being related to a botched hijacking remain correct."

A crack team of detectives had been assembled to search for the
killers.

Dube was shot dead in Rosettenville at about 8.20pm on Thursday
night. The singer was travelling in a grey Chrysler with his two
teenage children at the time.

Legacy

Condolences spanned the length and breadth of the political and
cultural spectrum, with everyone from President Thabo Mbeki to the
South African Football Players' Union praising Dube's legacy and
raising concerns about the level of violent crime.

Mbeki made an appeal to South Africans to confront the "scourge" of
crime together.

"This is ... very, very sad that this happened to an outstanding
South African -- an outstanding musician, world renowned," he said
as he was leaving for France to support the Springboks in the World
Cup final.

Mbeki conveyed his condolences to the family and also to Dube's fans
in SA and around the world.

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said: "For more than two
decades he confronted pertinent social and political issues through
his music, bringing to the fore the pain and suffering of many South
Africans."

Arts and Culture Minister Pallo Jordan called Dube one of the
most "important and relevant" voices to come out of the country in
the 20th century.

"What makes his death more painful is that it happened at a time
when government has renewed its pledge to forge a partnership with
people, communities and their institutions to fight crime," he said
in a statement. - Sapa

Five held for murder of S. African reggae star

22 Oct 2007 09:37:37 GMT

Reuters

JOHANNESBURG, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Five people have been arrested in
connection with the murder last week of reggae star Lucky Dube,
South African police said on Monday.

Dube, 43, was shot three times in front of his two children on
Thursday, in what police said was an attempted carjacking.

Police spokesman Superintendent Eugene Opperman said five men were
arrested in an early morning raid on a house east of Johannesburg on
Sunday and would appear in court on Tuesday.

"They will be appearing at the magistrate court to face various
charges which will be specified later," he said.

Police said the suspects were aged between 31 and 35 and most of
them were Mozambican.

Suspected stolen goods were found in the house, police said.

"The investigation is still going on and we hope to arrest more
people," Opperman added.

The high-profile murder prompted new calls for a crackdown on
violent crime in South Africa, which has one of the highest crime
rates in the world.

Police figures showed the murder rate in rose 2.4 percent between
April 1, 2006, and March 31, 2007, with 19,202 murders recorded. The
number of rapes, carjackings and assaults also remained high.

Best was last

22 October 2007

Edward Tsumele

`I had never before seen Lucky Dube give such a spirited
performance. 'Lucky gave his all at Macufe.

Reggae superstar Lucky Dube surprised many at this year's Macufe
festival in Bloemfontein when he performed for a crowd of only about
200 people.

Instead of being demoralised by the paltry crowd, like Jimi
Hendrix's legendary performance at the end of Woodstock, Dube gave a
spirited performance "as if he was performing for thousands".

This he had always done for more than two decades .

I was one of the lucky 200 that witnessed what turned out to be his
last performance before he was murdered on Thursday.

To the surprise of the mostly Rastafarian audience who had travelled
from Yeoville, Johannesburg, to see him , Dube performed most of his
earlier songs. He did such masterpieces as I am a Slave, Prisoner as
well as a selection of his late albums, and wrapped up the show with
Respect from his latest album by the same name.

I had never before seen Dube give such a spirited performance. It
was as if it was some kind of premonition.

When he wrapped up the show at the Bloemfontein Showgrounds, all of
us who witnessed the performance showered him with praises for his
professionalism. We forgot we were only 200 after all in a venue
that accommodates tens of thousands, thanks to the bad organisation
on the part of Macufe organisers.

Perhaps it was best for those of us who were at the show, because we
did not have to share this sheer entertainment with hordes of
others. It is unbelievable that the man is gone and I will not be
able to dance to the music of this superstar again. The dance I did
in Bloemfontein was the last one.

Life can sometimes be so unfair, cruel and heart-breaking. Go well
Rastaman, and remember Rastas Never Die, for it is only the body
that dies, and the spirit continues to live forever.

Music industry mourns Dube's death

Lucky Dube: 1964-2007

Lucky Dube is remembered by those who knew him as a peaceful person.
Sowetan Online spoke to Moses Tshabalala of the Soul Brothers,
traditional Zulu musician Bhekumuzi Luthuli, and Bongo Maffin's
Thandiswa Mazwai, and this is what they had to say.

Moses Tshabalala:

I couldn't believe it when I heard the news last night, I couldn't
sleep. I live in Eastgate and I thought I must go the place. I drove
there and I saw his car, I saw his son, I was there until one in the
morning. It was very shocking. Shocking and unbelievable.

Lucky, he's a gentleman and he didn't have enemies, he's my friend.
He gave me good advice on my work.

Bhekumuzi Luthuli:

Ngibuhlungu kakhulu, Ngibuhlungu kakhulu ziningi izinto
engiz'fundile kuye (I'm deeply hurting, deeply hurting, there are
many things I could have learned from him.

He was very knowledgeable. He liked to be a good father and a man of
the home, he was everything to me, I learned so much from him.

Ngiyakhala kakhulu (I'm heavily crying). I couldn't believe it when
I heard the news; I got a SMS at 12:30 and couldn't sleep until
about 02:30. Ngiyakhala kakhulu, anginawo amanye amazwi (I'm heavily
crying, I do not have more words to express how I feel).

Thandiswa Mazwai:

He was such a peaceful man. He is such a shock that he could be shot
like that.

He helped launch our career as Bongo Maffin. We used to open for his
concerts when he performed in America. I too am a fan and I'm
shocked, I can't believe that this happened.

YOUSSOU NDOUR CONDEMNS LUCKY DUBE'S MURDER

Senegal's leading singer Youssou Ndour has voiced his profound shock
at the murder of reggae star Lucky Dube in Johannesburg and warned
of the dangers facing artists in South Africa.

"What has just happened is terrible," Ndour said on his privately
owned RFM radio, condemning "this appalling act".

"For me, the big question to ask is about insecurity in South
Africa, especially with respect to people who are messengers," said
Ndour. "It is not the first time that there are killings (of this
kind) over there, well-known personalities or artists," he added.

Dube's murder poses "a big question which South African authorities
must provide answers to," he said. - AFP

Jenacide strikes again...now in texas
15 YEAR OLD GIRL, GETS SEVEN YEARS IN PRISON FOR PUSHING A
TEACHER!!!

Creola Cotton (left) and Shaquanda Cotton
By Tracy Stokes, BET.com News Staff & Wire Services

Posted March 28, 2007 - In Paris, Texas, last year, a 14-year-old
White girl burns down her family's home. Her punishment? Probation.
In the same town three months later, a 15-year-old Black girl,
Shaquanda Cotton, is sentenced to seven years in prison for pushing
a hall monitor at her high school.
Shaquanda had no prior arrests, and the monitor, a 58-year-old
teacher's aide, was not hurt, according to Black leaders in the
northeast Texas town of about 26,000 residents. But in March 2006,
the same judge, Lamar County Judge Chuck Superville, who let the
White teenage girl go on probation, convicted Shaquanda of "assault
on a public servant" and sent her to prison at least until she turns
21.
Officials at the Texas Youth Commission declined to discuss the case
with BET.com, citing Texas law.
"State law forbids us from acknowledging whether we have any youths
are in our system, despite the 50 million issues of print that's
been run," said Jim Hurley, a spokesman for the Texas Youth
Commission. "We'd have to break the law to talk about it."
Civil Rights Uproar
While the U.S. Department of Education is investigating the
incident, the case has civil rights groups in an uproar.
"I don't understand the judge's rationale for his decision," Dr.
Howard Anderson, president of the San Antonio Branch of the NAACP,
told BET.com.
In highlighting what he called an egregious miscarriage of justice
in a town with a long history of civil rights abuses, Anderson
pointed to the case of the 14-year-old convicted arson (whose name
was not released because of her age), who was slapped with
probation, and the case of a 19-year-old White man in Paris,
convicted of killing a 54-year-old Black woman and her 3-year-old
grandson with his truck. The latter, he said, was also sentenced to
probation and told to send the family a Christmas card every year.
"Then you have Shaquanda's case," Anderson said. "She pushed a hall
monitor, and she gets seven years confinement? If I look at all
three of these sentences, and I'm not a lawyer, I have to wonder
what the judicial system is doing. In this particular case, what is
this judge doing?"
Gary Bledsoe, an Austin attorney who heads the state NAACP branch,
told BET.com that Shaquanda was merely trying to defend herself.
"All she (Shaquanda) did was grab the aide to prevent a strike,"
Bledsoe said. "It's like they are sending a signal to Black folks in
Paris that you stay in your place in this community, in the shadows,
intimidated."
Sad History
And keeping Blacks in their place is nothing new in Paris, say
leaders, who remind that it's the site of the first highly
publicized lynching of a Black by a large White mob. In 1893,
fugitive Henry White was captured in Arkansas and brought to Paris,
where he was tortured and burned alive on a train bed as more than
10,000 angry townsfolk cheered and jeered.
Activists say that the Shaquanda sentence is nothing more than a
modern-day lynching.
Cotton has been incarcerated at a youth prison in Brownwood, Texas,
for the last year on a sentence that could run until her 21st
birthday. But like many of the other youths in the system, she is
eligible to earn early release if she achieves certain social,
behavioral and educational milestones while in prison.
But according to The Chicago Tribune, officials at the Ron Jackson
Correctional Complex repeatedly have extended Shaquanda's sentence
because she refuses to admit guilt and because she reportedly was
found with contraband in her cell - an extra pair of socks.
"She's not admitting any guilt, because she doesn't feel that she
did anything," Anderson told BET.com. "Not to mention, who saw the
pushing, if it did occur?"

Cotton's mother, Creola, who Anderson describes as "strong-willed,"
said her daughter was singled out because she accused the school
district of racism on several occasions.
In fact, 12 discrimination complaints have been filed against the
Paris Independent School District in recent years. District
officials dispute the charges, but the U.S. Department of Education,
which is still investigating the case, has reportedly asked the U.S.
Department of Justice to get involved.
In 1998, Paris, Texas, was named the "Best Small Town in Texas" by
Kevin Heubusch in his book The New Rating Guide to Life in America's
Small Cities.

   PRINCIPLES OF UNITY

We actively support and struggle to defend the Human Rights of Afrikan people
in the United States and around the world.

We demand Reparations, or repayment for four hundred years of slavery
colonialism and oppression of our people in the United States of America.

We promote Self-Determination and must organize for the liberation of the
Afrikan nation, held colonized in the United States.

We oppose Genocide or the acceptable and calculated killing of our people by
individuals, institutions and organizations of the United States government,
through lynching, disease, police terror and any other means.

We demand the release of activists who have been imprisoned because of their
commitment in seeking human rights and liberation for our people. These
brothers and sisters are Political Prisoners and should be recognized as such.

We actively struggle to End Sexist Oppression. We oppose any form of oppression
that limits women from reaching their fullest potential, as manifested in our
cultural, economic, political and social institutions, practices and beliefs.
We actively oppose those beliefs, ideas, terms, etc. that limit the human worth
of women and contribute to violations against women.
