Re: [ToyOutboardMotors] Restored Cub with "BJs" Stand

Yes, I have worked for several years on the questions of whether the decal background was clear or silver.  And several guys swear it was clear over the silver tank.  But in addition to several people with originals doing their own magnifying looks,  I sent my original tank to a decal expert.  And he took a tiny sample from an area that was already scraped up.  I too used a magnifying lens and took a tiny scrape.  We both agreed that the decal was silver and the silver tank remained underneath.

Thanks,

Re: [ToyOutboardMotors] Restored Cub with "BJs" Stand

This motor is barely (if even) any better than the one I just paid $810, inc. shipping, for on ebay. In addition to the polishing, there are many inaccuracies on the motor, including the use of phillips head screws instead of slotted fillister head ones. It is also missing the critical and very difficult to replace stamped and engraved brass cover/plug on the right side of the crankcase. All the black background has been polished off the I.D. plate. Denny, are you positive the background on the top tank decal is supposed to be silver and not clear?  Of course as long as the silver paint on the tank matches the background of the decal, it's a moot point. For this kind of money, it should be in excellent running condition.

Doug

Check out auction 120445889290.  Crazy money but that's what I would probably want for one of mine .. !  And this is YET another different set of decals (still completely wrong).  This is the first time I have seen the CUB name in this position !  And the Tank top is also completely wrong with the gold background (supposed to be silver).  One of the pics lets you see the back of the stand where people have added various different kinds of wood batons for support.  I like have form-cut plywood for the whole stand instead.  It is cardboard about 1/8" thick ..

Thanks,

Denny
