Hi Everyone,

     Here is my good tip for the day and it can help us all -

Someone emailed this to me and I tried it and it works.

Trick your address book! & Stop viruses from spreading -

    Who among us doesn't know someone who has experienced the
embarrassment of unknowingly spreading a computer virus via their
email address book?

   It's time to STOP this from happening by TAKING CONTROL of your
email program! For those who are unaware, many computer viruses spread
themselves by sending themselves to everyone in your address book.
Imagine how you would feel if you were unknowingly infected with a
computer virus, and worse yet, your friends, family, and business
contacts were being targeted by your computer!  Well, if you want to
avoid this sort of thing, Here's a great tip:

This tip won't prevent YOU from getting any viruses (you have to not
open attachments unless you are expecting one), but it will stop
those viruses from latching onto your address book and sending itself
out to others and that's how they are spread - If everyone does it
would stop most viruses in their tracks.

To avoid spreading computer viruses, create a contact in your email
address book with the name :
** !0000    with no email address in the details.

This contact will then show up as your first contact. If a virus
attempts to do a "send all" on your contact list, your pc will put up
an error message saying that: "The Message could not be sent. One or
more recipients
do not have an e-mail address. Please check your Address Book and
make sure all the recipients have a valid e-mail address." Your
messages to an individual or individual addressees  will not be
affected. You click on OK and the offending (virus) message would not
have been sent to anyone.
     Of course no changes have been made to your original contacts
list.  The offending (virus) message may then be automatically stored
in your "Drafts" or "Outbox" folder. Go in there and delete the
offending message. Problem is solved and virus is not spread.

Sept. 11 attack on our country.  We ask that you join us in this
effort. Beginning 9/22, we are taking the following steps to
benefit all Americans:

1] TAD will be purchasing as many American made products from
our suppliers as we can.  This includes office supplies and
products for resale to our customers.

2] All Sandy's design sets, of $39.00, or more, will be reduced.
This will be limited to designs that are e-mailed.  We ask that
you donate the savings on your purchase to one of the victim
relief funds.  This can be done by using the links to several,
secure, fund site URLs available on our site, making it easy for
you to donate.  Among the relief charities are: American Red Cross,
The New York Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund, The Survivors
Fund - Washington, D.C. area & several others that you may choose.

The price scale will be as follows:

Any TAD $39 design will be reduced to $34 - so you can donate $5

Any TAD $49+ design will be reduced to $39 - So you can donate $10

If you have already Donated to a relief fund - That's GREAT and even

5] The 16, American Tribute free design page will now be accessible,
only by our receiving a donation receipt of $15.00.  When the
receipt is forwarded to us, we will send you the link to download
the designs.  Further, we ask that the 24,000+ people who have
already downloaded the designs at no cost, to make a donation, as
well.  This will be on the honor system.  If you wish your
donation amount to be reflected in next weeks total, just forward
us the receipt - we'll gladly add it in!  If I had thought of this
earlier, the 24,000+ downloads, @ $15.00 each, to date, we would have
sent $360,000.00 into those relief funds! We know that you have
big hearts - it's time to show the world!

Although it's the last thought we all have right now, remember
that all your donations are tax deductible - keep those receipts!

We ask that you forward your donation receipt to us, regardless

You didn't answer my question. You have English netting for sale. Is it

Thanks Sandy/Terry for responding to my questions regarding Embroidery Magic.

Part of my problem could be related to low RAM, but I have other problems as
well.  For example, when I make a density or size change to lettering, the
new size and number of stitches does not update at the bottom of the screen
until after I have saved the design. So, I am constantly saving and
re-opening designs. That's really time consuming.  Also, it is difficult to
get back into an already saved lettering design in order to make additional
changes.  I just fool around with it until I get the screen which allows me
to make changes.

I am finding this software awkward to use and I can't believe the amount of
time I have spent trying to get some simple, small, brush script lettering.

Is the stitch density indicator backwards in the software?  You usually move
the arrow to the right to increase.  In this software, you move it to the
left.  Go figure.

I will be pleased to hear any suggestions you may have, because right now I
am pretty frustrated.

I haven't experienced the problem as you describe it, but any high graphics
program can be somewhat slow as compared to other funtions on your computer.

It sounds like a working memory--RAM--problem.  When this has happened to
you had you been working in another graphics program prior for any length of
time?  I always re-boot before & after using any high graphics program such
as Artista, Picture Publisher, SSPC, or any computer games, etc.  It may not
always need it but I've found it does more often than not!

Another thought--has your area been experiencing "brown outs"?

problems.  It seems to take a long time (30-45 seconds) for the software to

Is anyone else having that problem?  It is frustrating because when I have to
wait so long, I don't always know if the program accepted my change and I go
ahead and make the change again.  Sometimes, because it is so slow, it then
makes both changes and I never seem to know where I am in the design.

I have not worked much with the designs.  I bought the software for the
lettering capability and that is where I am having the problems.

Is anyone else having this problem or is is just me.  Maybe my machine is
just too slow.

I will appreciate any input you may have.

As I remember, when I changed it thru control panel, display - it asked
if I wanted put there and I said yes.  Sorry I can't give you better

One of the first items is a notice that EM needs 600x800 resolution setting
on the monitor. It may be inconvenient to change the setting but apparently
that is just the way it is. Regardless, it is a great program and you can't

The New Yen-Met Metallicis a true 40-weight thread, it is the smoothest,
most trouble-free metallic made. It needs no special lubricants that are
harmful to auto-tension discs. It comes in 21 gorgeous colors on 1000 yd.
cones @ $11 each.

The New Pearlescent Iridescent is absolutely the loveliest thread to be
found anywhere. It comes in 11 pastel shades on 1000 yd. cones @ $12 each.
You can now stitch snow or add that special touch to those important
garments.

The New Stardust is a new twist blend w/color nylon thread blended with
either silver or gold metallic for just a hint of sparkle. Each of the 11
(22 total) with either silver or gold is available @ $11 each.

The real  thread color chart for all three Metallics (56  colors) is $10, 81
new colors chart  is $7 and the 220 chart is $12.  Since our pricing is
discounted we cannot offer the real thread chart at no charge as they are
not free to us.

Embroidery Magic " Tips & info " page updated -
Hi Everyone,

     I have just updated the new page "Tips and info" on our web site for
users
  of the new Embroidery Magic program.

     I have some News about the "3 extra Free Fonts" that you get when you
register your software - They are scheduled to start being shipped on Wed.
of this week - Response was big - so please be patient and give them at
least
  till next week-end to arrive. The free fonts are not part of the standard 7
that
are on the CD or of the 16 packs that are sold separately.The fonts are
block
  fonts that sew very well at small sizes. The new free fonts will be great
for
small letters (as that's what many want), they are Block, mini block, and
straight block.

     Many have commented that they would prefer a written tutorial even
though EM has a good on screen Help/Tutorial.  Now you can down-load and
print out an Embroidery Magic Tutorial from our new page.

     If anyone has the problem of getting the message that the CD is not in
it's place - then there is a remedy for that also, to download from our new
page.

     If you have questions about how to use this EM program there may already
be answers in the " Commonly asked Questions & Answers " sections.

     Here's a "Tip" that you may have forgotten - After opening the
Help/Tutorial screen - just use Alt/Tab to quickly go back to your program
and then - use Alt/Tab to go back to Help anytime, quickly without waiting
and to the same place.

     And last but not least, there's a " Tips " section where you can get -
what else? - "Use" tips - such as: hold down the shift key - when first
beginning to use the program (inserting the CD) so that you can avoid the
opening screen and save time.

     We have sold many of these great Embroidery Magic programs and are
getting a lot of comments from many about how much they like it's many
features and how easy it is to use. Most find this program so easy to learn
and use that they don't even need or use the tutorial/help features it has
and just learn as they use it - It really is that easy for most. A few that
need the help/tutorial features have had a problem getting it to come up
while using the program - this is caused by their computer or the way it is
set up and is not a problem with the software program itself. If when wantin
g the help screen and getting the - "Please insert disk" message when it is
already there - it is because your computer is not recognizing that the disk
is already there - the easy way to solve this problem for now is to push the
open button on the CD drive and then push it again and then click OK and
wait for the tutorial to load. Then when you want to go back to using the
program just use the short-cut - " Alt - Tab" to switch back to your
Embroidery Magic program or any other that may be open. Leave the
help/tutorial screen open if you may want to use it again - and then just
use "Alt - Tab" to switch back quickly when you want it. Quick and Easy with
no waiting for it to load.  To open (when it is not already open) the
lettering/customizing program with the tutorial open - just click start (or
the windows key - between Ctrl & Alt) and go to
programs/Pantograms/Embroidery Magic, Then you can easily switch back and
forth between the lettering/customizing program and the Tutorial/help
program or any other open program.

           The When, Why & How of Embroidery Stabilizers

  There seems to be a lot of confusion about why, when & what stabilizers to
use to get the best results.  Following is a simple guide to help you
determine why & when to use specific types of stabilizer.  You will still
need to use good judgement in circumstances other than the ones mentioned.

1) Why do we need to stabilize?
  Under these circumstances, the word stabilize has 2 areas of consideration.
A) Every design needs a "foundation" during stitching & for the life of the
garment or article it is stitched on.  If not stabilized properly, the
design will warp after it is laundered.  In some cases it can even break
apart!
B) Most fabric is not stable enough or strong enough to take the number of
needle penetrations that an embroidery design has.  I don't know of a fabric
that doesn't have a cross grain stretch, to some degree.  Every good design
has several stitch angles.  When any design is stitched it will "pull or
push" the fabric in that direction, which is what causes the puckering you
see when a fabric is under stabilized.  It's also the cause of many an
outline being off & design parts having gaps between them.

2) How do you know what stabilizers are needed for what designs & fabric?
  Look at the design you're stitching.  What is the stitch count?  Does it
have much stitch on stitch (overlay stitching)?  How large is it?  The
larger, high stitch count & detailed (lots of overlay) designs will need a
really good "foundation" that will remain even after laundering.
  Now look at the fabric you've chosen to put this design on--Is it strong
enough to support the design?   Not all designs are suitable for all
fabrics.  If you try to put a "heavy" design on a silk blouse, you'll never
be happy w/ the results!  Even if you manage to get it well stabilized, the
weight of the design would pull on the fabric causing drooping of the
garment in that area.

3) Why pre-launder fabrics & garments before sewing or adding embroidery?
  You cannot tell much about a fabric until it has been laundered!  Textile
manufacturers add sizing-a little or a lot-to make the fabric wind on the
bolt easier.  This disguises many of the natural qualities/flaws that a
piece of fabric has.  The same is true of ready-to-wear garments.  They want
them to appear crisp & wrinkle free while hanging in the store!

4) How do I choose how much & what kind of stabilizer is suitable for what
fabric?
  This is very simple-pull on the fabric w/ the cross grain (sideways) & on
the bias (diagonal).  If you see a large pucker the fabric is very unstable.
Also pull w/ the straight grain (vertical).  If you see a pucker form in
this direction you have a very unstable fabric, probably not suitable for
embroidery.
  The larger/smaller the pucker resulting from pulling determines the
more/less stabilizer to apply for embroidery support.

5) Why are there so many stabilizers on the market to choose from & confuse
us?
  Buyer beware-not all commercial nor non-commercial backing products are
alike!   The embroidery business has boomed in recent years and many
manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon.  Not all stabilizer/backing have
the qualities needed for successful results.  We went to the commercial
products because we found that most of them give good results.  However,
just as in the home market stabilizers, you will find different qualities
depending on the manufacturer.  We chose the Pellon/Vilene brand because of
its superior quality, consistent results & reasonable price.  You really do
get what you pay for!


6) What is the difference in tear away backings?
  The typical tear away that most home-market tear away is not worth carrying
home, in my opinion.  It is a paper product that will not remain with the
design after laundering.  Most of them require using multiple layers to get
mediocre results while stitching.  They will also dull your needles.
  A good tear away is made of fabric, most are made of polyester, not paper,
that will not launder away.  They are available in both fusible &
non-fusible backings.

Examples for backing/fabric choices:

FLEECE-sweatshirt & polar-medium fusible tear away w/ additional layer/s of
light fusible tear away or soft tear away depending on the weight of the
fleece.

INTERLOCK (T-shirt knit)-light fusible tear away (2 layers), medium cut away
(2layers) or use 1 layer of fusible and 1-2 layers of soft tear away.  BABY
ITEMS-multiple (3-4) layers of soft rear away.  Remember-most of the time
this will be next to baby's skin!

DENIM-CHAMBRAY-TWILL-MUSLIN (shirting weight)-medium or light fusible tear
away and/or soft tear away or medium cut away.

DENIM-CANVAS-TWILL (heavyweight)-medium fusible tear away (2 layers)

POLYESTER BLEND (shirting weight)-soft tear away or light cut away, multiple
layers depending on the weight of the fabric & density of design.

SHEER/LIGHTWEIGHT FABRIC-multiple layers of Organdy (polyester) or
Poly-Mesh.

TIPS: For best results, always temporarily affix any non-fusible backing to
the fabric using 505 spray adhesive or by basting.  Simply hooping the
backing w/ the fabric or sliding the backing under the hoop will do little
to help stabilize the fabric!
  For maximum hold, always affix the first piece of backing straight grain
with the cross grain of the fabric.  When using multiple layers of backing,
turn each layer 90 degrees, alternating straight grain/cross grain with each
layer.  If you're stitching a design on the bias, turn at least 1 layer of
backing straight grain on the bias (diagonal) of the fabric.
  When using a fusible backing, leave about 1/4" all around the edges for
easier removal when finished.
  When using a large hoop, baste around the entire hoop stitch area to help
prevent bubbles from forming between the design & outer edges of the hoop.
You can accomplish this by making the first color sequence of a design a
simple single straight stitch, with the stitch length set at .6-. 8, and
"drawing" the shape of the hoop.  Remember to stay inside the stitch area by
1/8-1/4 inch.  It is easily removed when the stitching is finished.

	 This is my first post to the list, so bear with me
please as this is sort of a test. I subscribed to this list
because I like thread art and consider or think thread
art to me is machine embroidery. I do realize thread art
to you may be something entirely different and I would
