Subject: NOV 7 Swing-n-Blues in Sherman Oaks!!!
Hey all you hep cats,
The Shim Sham Room in Sherman Oaks in back in full swing!!!  Yes, it’s swingin and bluesin, every 1st Saturday of the month.  The next dance is November 7th, 8p-12midnight, with a lesson 7:30p-8p.  We’re aiming for a mix of roughly 2/3 fun swing and 1/3 groovy blues.  Come on out, invite your friends, help spread the word, and join the fun!
**11/7, 8p-12a, 7:30 beginner swing lesson
**only $8 cover
**DJ: Chris Gauntt
**14261 Ventura Blvd (nr Hazeltine), Sherman Oaks, CA 91423-2714
**Plenty of street parking and in the lots in back
On swing nights, Nadia Eftedal's Rhythm Room is transformed into the Shim Sham Room -- a place for classic swing, blues, and other fun stuff. One of the only regular swing venues west of the Golden State Fwy, the Shim Sham Room boasts a 1400 sq. ft. floating wooden dance floor, a new state-of-the-art sound system, a 2-story ceiling to give an extra feeling of spaciousness (and to let the heat rise!), and plenty of space to socialize or take a break. Music provided by L.A.'s favorite DJ's, with opportunities to hear new talent as well. Started by a swing-n-blues dancer who wanted more opportunities to dance on the west side of town, the Shim Sham Room is a fun and accessible place to get your groove on!

Here is a fun event - and please read the full email for this fun Dance Event. Please read it and use your best judgement.
Happy Dancing
We will be dancing on Sunday November the 1st from 4 to 8 pm at the Santa Monica pier below the carousel and next to the Santa Monica aquarium on the broad walk. We have a few dances left for this year. There is plenty of street parking; there is also a parking structure on 2nd Street next to the police station. The Santa Monica parking Mall has 3 hours of free parking. Where ever you park please read the signs.
Here are a few reasons why dancing below the carousel at the pier is better than the promenade and why you all should come out this Sunday November the 1st from 4 to 8 pm:
1 we do not have to move every 2 hours to find a convenient spot
2 we do not hear anyone else's sounds that disturb our dancing
3 plenty of benches to seat on
4 the cement is smooth plus the little sand on it help sliding for dance moves

I got to celebrate VZ Ballroom
Academy’s 1 Year Anniversary. I can recall going to the initial
opening dance party and I don’t realize that a year has passed already.
I went back into my photos and searched a whole year ago and sure enough I had
the photos.

I had a
great time at Vartan's new Dance Studio. Once again, I have become the
resident dancing photographer. Things are starting to come back to me after
my very bad ski accident 2/17/06. I know what I want in the photo frame; it
is just a matter of capturing the moment. I have to relearn aperture F-stops
and lens speed settings, which I use to know. Well, am just great full to God
to be alive and breathing.
I looked at the following photos and I took a lot more
photos 1 year ago. I must have been enjoying dancing myself and not
photographing people dancing. I took less than half as many photos this
time.

Couldn’t Make it To Las Vegas Lindy Exchange,.
Thinking of Swing Camp Laughlin?
I still don’t know if I can make it to Swing Camp
Laughlin since I need a ride. Not driving is a real pain. Last
weekend I was studying and too tired out to make it to the Las Vegas Lindy
Exchange. I still need to do some more studying. I guess I have to
limit myself physically. Maybe if I can find a ride to go on down to
Laughlin and hear "Stompy
Jones" tomorrow night 10/10/09.
10/9/09 Aruba
Tonight 10/9/09 I was going to join my brother Laney and go
out swing dancing at the Aruba. My brother Laney has flown in all the way
from Virginia and is attending training. Laney will give me a ride over
to the Aruba, but he is leaving tomorrow and flying back to Virginia.
I know it has been a while since I last updated you, but my
Laptop hard disk went bad and I had to recover to my original hard disk. I
sent my laptop back to the manufacturer to replace the hard disk and it has
taken me a while to reload over 15 programs back on. I had to reload all my
software before uploading photos. I now realize how many photos I have taken
over the years since I have not sent any photo links out because my computer
went bad. I know some of you have been waiting a long time for my photos.
Attached below are several links to photos I uploaded.

7/25/09: Kirk Comments on Robert &
Julie’s Party
It was very nice to see so many
familiar faces from the LA Swing Dance Community. It must have been more than
7 years ago that Julie did not hold a swing dance party at her house in
Manhattan Beach.
7/25/09: Tired Out From taking Photos
I think before my accident I use to
take photos and dance all night lot long, but this time I got tired out
physically and mentally from taking so many photos.

2009-10-06 Thinking Back of my Birthday Bug
10/6/09 My Birthday Today
Today, 10/6/09, I went to my Pilates class at 1 PM and I am
going to my Dreamweaver class at 5:30 PM. This being my birthday 10/6/09
I was looking at where I was 4 years ago. I use to go out
“bug” lobster diving each year with my old roommate Greg
DeLamare. Here are photos of my last “bug” trip four years
ago. Has it already been four years since these photos were taken?
I really have lost track of time.

Chazz Young comes to Denver for the Lindy Diversion Dance weekend, October

Dancing in Colorado gets better each year!
We have an amazing dance community here; cooporation, teamwork, friendship, and
trust make this possible. Each venue, dance instructor, organizer, work in
harmony to create a wonderful community. Words cannot express my gratitude.
Over the past 10 years we our community has thrived. We have danced a lot, had a
great time, made lifetime friends, and have good memories growing in our dance
and advancing our lives. I was recently watching some videos from events in
Colorado from 11 years ago. My we have all grown so much! Some are now
national and international dance champions and instructors. We are so fortunate
to continually have all the Lindy Hop Greats join us in Denver each year. As a

Tired of hearing all of the "no" in dance? Start saying YES with
fusion!
Fusion
is the combination of dances in such a way that allows dancers to use
all the techniques, connections, and movements of many dances (in
particular swing and blues, or blues and tango, or west coast and
blues). This is a constant communication from lead to follow (and vice
versa) that uses the dancers' knowledge of more than one dance to flow
from one dance to another within a song/dance. Fusion is imagination in
motion.
*Join us for the San Diego Fusion
Exchange!*
3
Days of Classes! 3 Nights of Dancing! Amazing instructor lineup! Tons
of DJs! Live Music! Meals included! ...and a LIVE BAND on Saturday
night!
For our 3rd year, we're giving you more of what you
loved, all in two GORGEOUS venues: 30 minute breaks between classes,
free coffee all day and all night long, your favorite instructors,
great DJs, and uninterrupted social dancing! Experience the passion of
dancing by using the combination of all your dance knowledge (whether
it be blues, west coast, slow lindy, soul, argentine tango, or any
other dance) so that you can best create your own style to fit the
music.
To make your stay easier, we've arranged a shuttle
service between
the main venue and the late night venue that will take you back to the
hotel. We've also arranged a super special super low $45 rate with the
hotel (Jan 1 - 13) so you can walk to the venues in the beautiful
California sun.
And wait, there's more: If you live on the West
Coast and you'd like to start the party as you travel. We've also
arranged a party bus starting in Seattle and picking
up in Portland and San Francisco. Contact Kayce Spear (travel
coordinator) by November 1st.
*Early Registration Is Already Filling
Fast!*
Early
registration ends when the early spots are gone, and prices increase as
each set of early bird registrations are filled, so please don't wait
until the last minute to register!
An all-access
pass is a tremendous bargain and includes 3 full days of classes with
dancing in-between, 3 nights of dancing from 9 PM - 5 AM, breakfast, lunch,
and a late night snack.
San Diego is sunny and mild, most other places
places are cold and
wet. Why not give yourself the best dance vacation ever? Start off with
Swingin' the New Year in San Diego then stick around for dancing every
night, possibly a rock-climbing trip on Wednesday, Disneyland on
Thursday (transportation included), and a live band (CJ Hutchinson
Band) just for the fusionistas at Ciao Bella on Thursday night (only
$8). Rock out with the Fusion Exchange from Friday through Sunday. Then
enjoy more great dancing at a special alternative Milonga just for us.
