This group challenges readers to read classic fiction. No one book is chosen for readers but rather members choose their own classic each month based on a common theme which will vary from month to month.

For this groups purposes the word "classic" will be based on the definition set forth in the dictionary as: "Judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of it's kind". This is set forth as a guideline only, to avoid disputes over what is a classic and what is not. For the most part members are left to decide for themselves what they would like to read, as long as they follow the theme for the month. Links to where listings of classic novels can be found are in the links section of the group.

This group is primarily for those new to classic fiction, though seasoned classic readers are welcomed, we do not waste time discussing what is a classic or debating the "classic-ness" of what other members choose to read. Because this group is for those who are new to classics or who want to eventually add older classics to their reading reportoire, we do allow new classics, any book that falls within our definition of classics qualifies, readers are left to their own judgement when picking their monthly reads. No one in this group will be judged for what they decide to read, period. Anyone who feels the need to critique others choices will be asked to leave.

This group is a very friendly, relaxed and an environment conducive to reading for enjoyment as well as for personal enrichment. No flaming, spamming, harrassment, judgemental observations, bickering etc, will be tolerated.

Participation is required for this group. Members must participate in at least 3 monthly reads per year and post to the group regularly to maintain membership. Those who do not, will be unsubbed, once unsubbed (unless for violating group rules) former members may rejoin when able to participate more regularly.

All members must be at least 18 years of age.
