Investigators from the National Fraud Unit will question Prime
Minister Ehud Olmert for a second time on Friday at 10:00 am.
Police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld made the announcement on Tuesday,
several short hours after Yedioth Aharonoth revealed Olmert had,
through his attorneys, informed the police he was available for
questioning on Friday.
Olmert is suspected of allegedly receiving over $500,000 from American
businessman Moshe Talansky, who is scheduled to give his deposition to
the court within the coming weeks.
The prime minister's legal counselors and those representing his
former bureau chief Shula Zaken, stood before the Supreme Court on
Monday in a bid to appeal the District Court's ruling, saying that
allowing a Talansky's pre-trial deposition would harm their client's
chances for a fair trial.
"No unusual privileges stand for the prime minister, but it is
inconceivable that he will be deprived of the same legal privileges
every other citizen is entitled to," Attorney Eli Zohar, representing
Olmert, told the court.
