Re: [TheSpark_Discussion] On Socialist Methods and the Stalin-Era Purges

Mike Ely is cool.

"people who want to conduct mass campaigns of execution should declare themselves early and loudly — so they can be carefully kept far far away from revolutionary preparations and future state power."

The finishing line. From a guy who spent decades in the RCP and the Maoist movement, it's a fairly big deal to say that.

I was reading it when you posted that, it's really good. Kasama pretty much encapsulates my political positions - loosely Maoist and supportive of Maoist revolutionary movements, but with a critical approach to our part and present, theoretically and practically.

Basically saying we as communists have to be open about our history, because otherwise the ruling-class gets the final say on the purges. This is part of the reason it'd be good to do a study on democratic centralism, and it reminds me of the UCPN(M)'s willingness to discuss why the socialist states of the 20th century succumbed to peaceful counter-revolution.

"They are pressing forward, here, there and everywhere, in all the zones that girdle the globe. Everywhere these awakening workers, these class-conscious proletarians, these hardy sons and daughters of honest toil are proclaiming the glad tidings of the coming emancipation, everywhere their hearts are attuned to the most sacred cause that ever challenged men and women to action in all the history of the world. Everywhere they are moving toward democracy and the dawn; marching toward the sunrise, their faces all aglow with the light of the coming day. These are the Socialists, the most zealous and enthusiastic crusaders the world has ever known. They are making history that will light up the horizon of coming generations, for their mission is the emancipation of the human race. They have been reviled; they have been ridiculed, persecuted, imprisoned and have suffered death, but they have been sufficient to themselves and their cause, and their final triumph is but a question of time."
