We run email lists for Brussels, London, Paris, Italy, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Dublin, Stockholm and an international one: The Network. It's an email list that we keep of 4500+ key people in our age group in these cities.

The Networks cross-fertilize each other where appropriate (anything internationally interesting, e.g. job posting, goes to every Network). The rest stays local (e.g. openings, sale, vernissage, advice request).

In 1995, KP used to send out party invites, job postings, etc. to about 25 of his friends. They started to send things in (jobs, give aways, apartments for rent, etc) that he turned around and sent out. They liked it: people got rid of stuff almost immediately; the people acquiring stuff trusted the source (a friend of a friend); everyone was hearing about things before they were advertised. Also, each of them could pass interesting stuff on to their friends.

People are happy with easy delivery, immediate turnaround, no corporate influence and a feeling of trust and community. The Network name appeared in 1998. TN grew and is growing.

Brussels members asked TN to expand to other cities; people from Brussels are traveling for fun or business, and moving a lot. There are now 7 cities served.

a) helping out friends; b) becoming known as a fixer; and c) getting first look at stuff we would otherwise not see.
