This group is for individuals interested in creating and maintaining a naturalistic environment / habitat enclosure - usually with the intent of keeping small live critters in them. Such creatures include: amphibians, small reptiles, insects and more. Possible habitats include: tropical rain forest, desert, mangroves, swamps, and any other biotope or micro environment setups our members are interested in. The possibilities are endless.

What is a Vivarium exactly? A vivarium can be thought of as a terrarium, but with living animals in them- such as lizards, gecko's, frogs, salamanders, etc. It is an attempt to create as complete a natural environment which is tailored to the specific needs of the small creatures which will inhabit them.

Discussions include uses of hardware, lights, pumps, misting systems, temperature, humidity, insitu feeding, advanced computer controls, plants, substrate, design, micro climates, aesthetics, etc..

Advice and discussion is welcome on display techniques, chemical / biological processes in the viarium, health hazards for our creatures, and creative solutions to everyday issues within our set ups.

This list is open to everyone, including: herpers, botanists, scientists, educators, hobbyists, and anyone with the desire to learn more about keeping a small part of the outdoors in our homes.
