Hiya!

The book is called "Korean Language and Culture." Guess what the book is about!

Early this year in 2009 at the Korean classes we host in Koreatown (Los Angeles, California), we had an honuor of having one of the highly-recognized linguists visiting us. The guest was Professor Sang-Oak LEE, a renowned Korean linguist and Director of Korean Language Research Institute at Seoul National University (SNU: the top university in Korea). He's a household name to linguists; I was star-struck!

He left a book that he wrote: "Korean Language and Culture." For obviously reason, I got excited. What a great book for my students and the KoreanLA club! At the after-class dinner meeting, I skimmed through the book, and I got jitters from excitement. This is the book that we NEEDED!

I plan to utilize the book for our future classes and workshop to learn and talk about Korean language and culture. For now, I want to highly recommend that you either borrow or purchase this book. The book is for all levels of Korean speakers, and for everyone who are interested in Korean people and Korean culture. It's a great book for both natives Koreans and non-Koreans.

WHY THIS BOOK:

1. The book is written in both English and Korean

2. The book covers most of aspects of Korean language and culture: language, history, nature, economy, society, art, music, literature, traditional culture, philosophy and honorifics.

3. It's easy to follow.

4. You can look up only the section you are interested in.

5. When you want, you can refer to Professor Lee's website for further reference: www.sangoak.com
(in Korean).

6. We will study this book to help your Korean proficiency.

WHERE TO GET THE BOOK

1. Professor Sang-Oak LEE graciously donated several copies of his book at the Pio Pico Koreatown Los Angeles Library -- solely for us! Visit the library and rent it ASAP! You can reserve the book in advance, on line:
www.lapl.org/branches/Branch.php?bID=3. (Book name: Korean Language and Culture. Author: Sang-Oak LEE)

2. If you are interested in buying, please reply to this message: name and quantity you want. The book is not available in USA (yet). We will volume-purchase it to cut the cost of S&H and hopefully cost of the book too (I think it will be $25-30 - the money's worth it). I would like to take your reply in stages. First due date: May 16, 2009.
* If you cannot pick up the book yourself in Los Angeles, I can mail you the book. There will be S&H charge.

I can be reached at KoreanLanguageAndCulture@....
