The Hague Writers Circle is a group of writers who meet once a month to help each other become better writers.

We are a critique group, but maintain a positive, supportive atmosphere where each individual writer feels ‘safe’ to present their work to the group. Our guiding document on ‘how to critique’ can be found in the files section of this website. We insist that comments are positive and constructive, though only giving niceties is not enough. We want to know what you think and why.

We meet once a month on a Tuesday evening in Dudok restaurant on Hofweg 1 in the centre of The Hague from 19:30- 21:30. We have a deadline for submitting work that individuals would like ‘critiqued’ (one week before the meeting). We expect that people who come to each meeting has read each piece and commented in writing. A facilitator is appointed for each meeting. This person leads the meeting, keeps time, raises any outstanding issues etc.

The writers in our group have various interests and backgrounds, but all have a passion for writing. Some are busy with projects; others are just exploring their talents. We have fiction, non-fiction and creative non-fiction writers, and we keep abreast of workshops and activities given by other groups in the Netherlands. We also aim to invite special guests to give workshops to our group; these are scheduled outside our regular meeting times and we share the extra costs involved.

Membership to this group is by invitation only. We ask new members to provide a short biographical paragraph which describes who they are, where they are from, what their professional experience is, what writing projects they are working on, and what they hope to get out of the group.
