You might also try just working with lip glosses, instead of full-on lipstick.
The gloss tends to wipe away more cleanly and doesn't have as much pigment as
lipstick. I've never had to work much with quick-changing lip color...

You might also try giving your makeup company of choice a call and ask for
their recommendations. I just recently had a product question, called Ben
Nye got my answer, but also got a better solution to my problem--one I'd
never have thought of on my own.

I think they are extremely creative and innovative! I love them.
I have a couple of questions for you:
Why were they made? Why were the eggs chosen as a theme? How long did it
take to create them all? What were your challenges? And last, but not least
what is the emBella tex?

hey y'all,
i'm a costume designer...but...i'm about to start working on bridesmaids dresses
for a friend's wedding.  the pattern she chose is a 40's style dress (simplicity
2442...the blue photo) which is similar to the wedding dress.
she has 7 bridesmaids...not a problem.
but she's decided to have 2 little girls in the wedding party, also, and wants
them dressed identically to the bridesmaids.
is there a place where i might find instructions on how to alter an adult
pattern to fit a child.
i can work with patterns, but dont usually choose to.  i've been unsuccessful in
finding a child pattern style that works.
the wedding is october 28th.

thanks for any help.

I've received this new feather boa: Turkey Ruff, 300 gram, 6 ft. long. It
started to lose feathers as soon as I shook it out of the packaging and
continued to do so throughout Dress Tech. The stage was a mess. The Stage
Manager said she could practically build another boa with what came off! I've
got enough feathers to fill a shopping bag here. The Director has demanded it be
cut from the show and I don't blame him. The question is; is this NORMAL feather
loss from a NEW boa? How much should I expect? Should I return it to the
manufacturer? Elizabeth

I think that the size difference between women and children will be
too great to alter adult patterns to fit the kids. Better to take a
child's pattern for a basic dress and restyle it to look like the
women's dresses. Do have have some pattern drafting skills?

Some feather loss is normal, in my experience, especially as you get into
thicker, heavier boas. Without actually seeing how much has come off the boa,
however, I couldn't tell you if it was a normal amount or not.

I've learned to take the boa and shake it out vigorously when it first
arrives...this gets rid of the inevitable loose feathers, and gives you an idea
of the general condition of the boa. However, old feathers start to
disintegrate (turkey isn't as bad as ostrich, in that regard, but I've seen it
happen with turkey feather stuff, too), and I've yet to find any way to prevent
it from happening. If the boa sat on the shelf too long before you got it, it
could, hypothetically, be 'past its prime'. Another question is how, exactly,
the boa is being used--if it's being flicked and twisted and danced with and
stuff, breakage is going to occur, period. We've done several shows at the park
over the years I've been there where we were using boas...and it didn't matter
if it was brand new or if it was one we'd pulled out of storage to use, the
movement involved in doing the choreography always ended up breaking off a few
more feathers every show (and some of these shows were performing seven or eight
times a night...we have some pretty thread-bare boas floating around in costume
storage right now, though I've begun trying to weed out the serious problems...)

So, yeah...without knowing for sure how many feathers have actually fallen
off...and how, exactly, the boa's being used, it's difficult to state whether or
not the amount of feathers lost is normal or if you got a 'cheap' boa.

I shook the boa out of the packaging and 17 feathers came off. Every time I
moved it, more feathers came off. I took it outside and shook it over the porch

NEW boa, dyed black, made just for our production. I took it to the theatre. The

Henry has asked me to announce the stage dimensions for all CC28 events.

The stage will be 12 feet deep by 24 feet wide. Entry and/or exit
will be from the two sides. Unfortunately, there will not be an area
on the stage for staging entries. There will be a staging area at the
base of the stairs.

If you have any questions, please direct them to Henry so he can
check them out.

Yeah...the 17 feathers from the initial shake doesn't surprise me...but that is
the ONLY part of that description that sounds anywhere vaguely normal.
Definitely contact the company that you got it from...they may have gotten it
from another supplier and should be informed if it's not up to standards. And
if not, and it's their product, then they should be made aware that they aren't
providing a decent product (they may also--if they've got any semblance of
customer service skills--offer to replace it with one that ISN'T falling to
pieces...)

I am a licensed hair dresser...
Here is your issue draco is almost white in color it is VERY LIGHT.
Yes you run the risk of burns with lightener aka bleach. You need to use a blue
based bleach(it will say it has a blue toner) FOR and this is important ON THE
SCALP application. IF not you can blister him.
The hair may also BE RESISTANT to bleaching.
You may need several go around at trying to lighten it is best to strand test
how long you will need to lighten the hair.
Your biggest challenge is that facial Hair is a totally different monster. It
is coarse and the shape of the cortex and medulla may make it resistant to
color
removal....http://www.top-hair-loss-remedy.com/images/hair-cross-section.gif
The reason lightening works is the cuticle layer of the hair is lifted or blown
open and the bleach goes in to the cortex and removes for lack of a better term
swiss cheese chunks of hair and color. (this is mainly why it can feel or look
dry) My recommendation is to get CAT protein reconstructing treatment. So you
fill the damage and replace the damaged areas with keratin (same stuff that
makes nails strong).
I also recommend using a smoothing shampoo AND conditioner to keep the hair in
control for the 1st weeks. Like matrix sleek look it will help smooth down the
shaft.

The redken treatment is not supposed to be available but thru professionals
use.. you might need to go to a salon for treatment???
If you need any further help. I am here for you!

The manufacturer has admitted problems with a specific supplier and has agreed
to not only refund my purchase price, but also reimburse the return shipping
costs. They are interested in just how many feathers came off and want me to
include them in the box. Boy! Are they going to be surprised! Elizabeth

Glad to hear there was some kind of satisfactory resolution (not as satisfactory
as getting a good boa to start with...but at least you didn't get stiffed on the
deal.)

I'm one of those that hates to bring up complaints, especially if it's something
I think I can fix or work around. But there are times when that really is the
best option to pursue.

The head of a local dance company contacted me wondering if I had a source for
glitter pinstriped material to use for dance costumes. I haven't seen anything
yet...but in the past, you've all been massively helpful in tracking down
materials and supplies that weren't available through any of my 'normal'
channels...

So, anyone know of a source for glitter-striped, colored materials that would be
appropriate for dance costumes? (Doesn't necessarily have to have a high lycra
content, but it does need to be heavy enough to stand up to some pull and
twist...)

Don't know if they have what you are looking for but they use to have a lot of
glittery fabrics.

I was walking through Hobby Lobby a little while ago and they have boas.  Not
sure what color you were seeking, but they or Michael's may have what you need
if you're dealing with time running short before your performance.

I do lots of dance costumes, and I get all my lycra from either of these places:

http://www.spandexhouse.com/

http://spandexworld.com/

They have everything! :)
