Description

Note: Photo posted with permission from Jeffrey L. Cooper. The Fountain Grid, Dallas, Texas. Welcome to The Compact for the Dallas-Fort Worth area and north Texas (surrounding neighbors are welcome, too!). Following the footsteps of the original 2006 group of Compactors – this discussion group was created to help foster support our efforts to: To go beyond recycling in trying to counteract the negative global environmental and socioeconomic impacts of disposable consumer culture and to support local businesses, farms, etc. -- a step that, we hope, inherits the revolutionary impulse of the Mayflower Compact. To reduce clutter and waste in our homes (as in trash Compact-er). To simplify our lives (as in Calm-pact) We have made the following COMPACT (pledge) for all of 2007: #1 Don't buy new products of any kind (from stores, web sites, etc.) #2 Borrow, barter, or buy used. Other Texas Compacters: Austin Compact
Houston Compact Story done on the Compact and DFW Compact on 07/22/08 on Channel 33: http://cw33.trb.com/news/kdaf-carpenteronthecase-spkg,0,2620524.special
