"Jury equity" enables a jury to reach a decision in direct contradiction with the law if they feel the law is unjust (or unconstitutional). This can create a persuasive precedent for future cases, or render prosecutors reluctant to bring a charge – thus a jury has the power to influence the law in very major ways.

Dear Fellow FREEMEN and FREEWOMEN,
  
DEMOCRACY is the RULE OF COMMON LAW.
  
COMMON LAW is the LAW of the PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE, for the PEOPLE.
  
COMMON LAW is made by congregations of 12 FREEMEN / FREEWOMEN as JURORS who ask "SO HELP ME GOD" for them to administer JUSTICE.
  
However, EVIL COUNSELLORS, JUDGES an MINISTERS are endeavouring to subvert and extirpate our LAWS and our LIBERTIES. They are unlawfully and illegally denying us our inalienable RIGHT to TRIAL BY JURY and, with their COVETOUS RULES and their FEIGNED ACTS of PARLIAMENT, make MERCHANDISE of us.
  
INSIDE our Courts, the CRIMINALS and TRAITORS have taken control.
  
We must LAY SIEGE from OUTSIDE to our Courts.
  
Tomorrow night, at 7:00 PM at the Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club in Ryedale Road, West Ryde, Sydney (adjacent to the West Ryde Railway Station) will be the inaugural meeting of the COMMON LAW RIGHTS GROUP.  The purpose is to call for VOLUNTEERS to distribute LEAFLETS outside COURT HOUSES informing everyone of their RIGHTS, especially their RIGHT to TRIAL BY JURY.  The pro-formers for the leaflets will be available on my website of http://www.rightsandwrong.com.au so that anyone anywhere can download them and print as many copies as they wish. 
  
This is to be an ONGOING CAMPAIGN until WE DEFEAT OUR ENEMIES.
  
If DEMOCRACY is to SURVIVE, then it's NOW OR NEVER.
