Description
A home for the post-denominational (or "independent") sacramental movement; for deep-ecumenically-minded, unity-in-diversity-oriented members of the "Progressive Reconstructionist" renewal movement ("grace-based" churches).
Our views coincide with CrossLeft/IPC [www.crossleft.org], Sojourners [www.sojo.net], TCPC, et al., NOT with Theonomy/Dominion-Theology--the so-called "Christian Reconstructionist" ideas of Rushdooney, North, et al.
We believe Humanity's diversity reflects God's image; we embody the sacred. We're found among the Altkatholische (Old-Catholics), "independent" catholic/orthodox, other such autocephalous groups, Lutherans/Anglicans, members of Base Communities such as "Call to Action" (e.g., "Dignity," "Catholics for a Free Choice"), & others w/ evangelical concern for prophetic mission in the Church.
We care not for titles and pomp, but for ecumenical witness, justice-bearing ministries, creation spirituality, bringing love & healing to all in need for the sake of Christ. Our Christian members tend to accept: the Chicago-Lambeth Quadrilateral; the Phoenix Affirmations; full equality of women and gay folk in the Church. Ministry/sacramental views given in the WCC ecumenical Lima Statement on Baptism, Eucharist, and Ministry [www.wcc-coe.org/wcc/what/faith/bem1.html] are a good intro. We find the Eucharistic Liturgy of Churches Uniting in Christ [www.cuicinfo.org/liturgy/liturgy.html] a good basic model for local (or Eastern) adaptation.
Members have many views, often passionate; we try to make discourse civil. Hate-speech and specifically illegal content (including character defamation), violate the TOS. We're moderated, so that ministry, rather than personal bickering, remains our focus.
Join us! The sphere of catholic Christianity IS greater than the Roman Catholic Church; there are MANY progressives! And other Faith Tradition progressives working in interfaith/ecumenical ways to mend/transform the world (tikkun olam): WELCOME!
