Elizabeth (Liz) Frances Witte Trcka, age 90, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend went to meet our Lord at 6:50 p.m. on Wednesday, the 31st of October 2012.

Liz is survived by her five children: son, Chuck Trcka and wife, Toni; daughter, Kathleen Taylor and husband, Hugh; son, Don Trcka and wife, Beverly; son, Paul Trcka and wife, Cherie; and son, Randy Trcka. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren and their spouses: Jeff and Laura Trcka; Todd & Lisanne Trcka, Greg Trcka, Trey and Jamie Taylor, Bryan Taylor, Tammy and David Pipho, Michael Taylor, Melinda and Robert Hoover, Tara and Ralph Barrick, Dee and Melissa Trcka; Kasey & Darin Blomquist; Shane Trcka; Chad and Tanya Trcka, Scott and Trish Trcka, Jenee Trcka; and Ryan Trcka. Liz was an avid sports fan; she and her husband, Charlie, were regulars in the bleachers at their children’s various sports endeavors. Having come from a German heritage, Liz had a passion for cooking and baking, providing her family and many friends with the fruits of her talents. She was employed as a “baker” in the cafeteria of Clear Creek High School for 25 years and was famous for her cinnamon rolls on mornings during the school year. Several years ago, her daughter, Kathleen, and son, Chuck, and his wife, Toni, helped Liz create her very own cookbook, “Sister’s Secrets,” which included many of her favorite recipes. Liz also took pleasure in handcrafting items and sewing stuffed animals and dolls, being remembered for her Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls she created for each of her great grandchildren.

Liz was known for her generous spirit and loving heart. She was a founding member of the J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) group at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Clear Lake City and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Mother of Unity #2292 in Houston.

The family wishes to thank the many doctors and nurses who have cared for Liz, especially during the last few weeks as she fought her life-limiting lung disease. Special thanks to the doctors at Clear Creek Clinic and especially Dr. Chaitanya Alli, who worked with Harbour Hospice during Liz’s last few days. Heartfelt gratitude is extended to the many compassionate nurses at Clear Lake Regional Heart Tower who went “above and beyond” in performing their duties.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Crowder Funeral Home in League City.

Funeral services for Mr. Frank John Tilicek of Schulenburg were held at 9:30 Monday morning in the Catholic Cemetery in Schulenburg, with the Rev. Goertz officiating.

A heart attack at about 7:30 Saturday evening proved fatal to the 35-year-old restauranteur, whose success story reads like a Horatio Alger novel.

Born November 23, 1905, at Hallettsville, “Frank”, as he was known to hundreds of friends throughout this and other sections, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Felix T. Tilicek.  He married Miss Rozine Pennington at Houston in 1926 and the couple have made their home in Schulenburg since that time.

Beginning with just a small “hamburger shack” in the west part of Schulenburg, “Frank” soon began to expand his business, building one of the most modern restaurants in South Texas.  From that point on the business grew until it was known from one end of the Old Spanish Trail to the other.  A real booster to any community activity, “Frank” was popular in athletic, social and commercial circles.  He was a member of the Lions Club, the National Restaurant Association and the Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Mary Tilicek of Schulenburg; his wife and son, Frank, Jr.; and three sisters, Mrs. J. B. Yaws of Houston; Mrs. Slex (Alex?) Sengelmann of Schulenburg; and Mrs. Annie Novak of Schulenburg.

The Mercury extends sympathy to the bereaved survivors.
